The Lords Glory and Mankind’s Dignity.

For the music director; on the Gittith. A Psalm of David.

Lord, our Lord,
How majestic is Your name in all the earth,
You who have [a](A)displayed Your splendor above the heavens!
(B)From the mouths of infants and nursing babies You have established [b](C)strength
Because of Your enemies,
To do away with (D)the enemy and the revengeful.

When I [c](E)consider (F)Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
The (G)moon and the stars, which You have set in place;
(H)What is man that You think of him,
And a son of man that You are concerned about him?
Yet You have made him a (I)little lower than [d]God,
And (J)You crown him with (K)glory and majesty!
You have him (L)rule over the works of Your hands;
You have (M)put everything under his feet,
All sheep and oxen,
And also the animals of the field,
The birds of the sky, and the fish of the sea,
Whatever passes through the paths of the seas.

(N)Lord, our Lord,
How majestic is Your name in all the earth!

Thanksgiving for God’s Justice.

For the music director; on [e]Muth-labben. A Psalm of David.

I will give thanks to the Lord with all (O)my heart;
I will (P)tell of all Your [f]wonders.
I will rejoice and be (Q)jubilant in You;
I will (R)sing praise to Your name, O (S)Most High.

When my enemies turn back,
They stumble and (T)perish before You.
For You have (U)maintained [g]my just cause;
You have sat on the throne [h](V)judging righteously.
You have (W)rebuked the nations, You have eliminated the wicked;
You have (X)wiped out their name forever and ever.
[i]The enemy has come to an end in everlasting ruins,
And You have uprooted the cities;
The very (Y)memory of them has perished.

But the (Z)Lord [j]sits as King forever;
He has established His (AA)throne for judgment,
And He will (AB)judge the world in righteousness;
He will execute judgment for the peoples fairly.
[k]The Lord will also be a (AC)stronghold for the oppressed,
A stronghold in times of trouble;
10 And [l]those who (AD)know Your name will put their trust in You,
For You, Lord, have not (AE)abandoned those who seek You.

11 Sing praises to the Lord, who (AF)dwells in Zion;
(AG)Declare His deeds among the peoples.
12 For (AH)He who [m]requires blood remembers them;
He does not forget (AI)the cry of the needy.
13 Be gracious to me, Lord;
See my oppression from those (AJ)who hate me,
You who (AK)lift me up from the gates of death,
14 So that I may tell of (AL)all Your praises,
That in the gates of the daughter of Zion
I may (AM)rejoice in Your [n]salvation.
15 The nations have sunk down (AN)into the pit which they have made;
In the (AO)net which they hid, their own foot has been caught.
16 The Lord has (AP)made Himself known;
He has (AQ)executed judgment.
A wicked one is ensnared in the work of his own hands. [o]Higgaion Selah

17 The wicked will [p](AR)return to [q]Sheol,
All the nations who (AS)forget God.
18 For the (AT)needy will not always be forgotten,
Nor the (AU)hope of the afflicted perish forever.
19 (AV)Arise, Lord, do not let mankind prevail;
Let the nations be (AW)judged before You.
20 Put them (AX)in fear, Lord;
Let the nations know that they are (AY)merely human. Selah

A Prayer for the Overthrow of the Wicked.

10 Why (AZ)do You stand far away, Lord?
Why (BA)do You hide [r]Yourself in times of trouble?
In (BB)arrogance the wicked hotly pursue the needy;
[s]Let them be (BC)caught in the plots which they have devised.

For the wicked (BD)boasts of his (BE)soul’s desire,
And [t]the greedy person curses and (BF)shows disrespect to the Lord.
The wicked, [u]in his haughtiness, (BG)does not seek Him.
(BH)There is no God in all his schemes.

His ways (BI)succeed at all times;
Yet Your judgments are on high, (BJ)out of his sight;
As for all his enemies, he snorts at them.
He says to himself, “(BK)I will not be moved;
[v]Throughout the generations (BL)I will not be in adversity.”
His (BM)mouth is full of cursing, deceit, and (BN)oppression;
(BO)Under his tongue is harm and injustice.
He sits in the (BP)lurking places of the villages;
He (BQ)kills the innocent in the secret places;
His eyes [w]surreptitiously watch for the [x](BR)unfortunate.
He lurks in secret like (BS)a lion in his [y]lair;
He (BT)lurks to catch (BU)the needy;
He catches the needy when he pulls him into his (BV)net.
10 Then he crushes the needy one, who cowers;
And [z]unfortunate people fall by his mighty power.
11 He (BW)says to himself, “God has forgotten;
He has hidden His face; He will never see it.”

12 Arise, Lord; God, (BX)lift up Your hand.
(BY)Do not forget the humble.
13 Why has the wicked (BZ)treated God disrespectfully?
He has said to himself, “[aa]You will not require an account.”
14 You have seen it, for You have looked at (CA)harm and provocation to [ab]take it into Your hand.
The [ac](CB)unfortunate commits himself to You;
You have been the (CC)helper of the orphan.
15 (CD)Break the arm of the wicked and the evildoer,
[ad](CE)Seek out his wickedness until You find none.

16 The Lord is (CF)King forever and ever;
(CG)Nations have perished from His land.
17 Lord, You have heard the (CH)desire of the humble;
You will (CI)strengthen their heart, (CJ)You will make Your ear attentive
18 To [ae]vindicate the (CK)orphan and the (CL)oppressed,
So that mankind, which is of the earth, will no longer cause (CM)terror.

The Lord, a Refuge and Defense.

For the music director. A Psalm of David.

11 In the Lord I (CN)take refuge;
How can you say to my soul, “Flee as a bird to your (CO)mountain?
For, behold, the wicked (CP)bend the bow,
They have [af](CQ)set their arrow on the string
To (CR)shoot in darkness at the upright in heart.
If the (CS)foundations are destroyed,
What can the righteous do?”

The Lord is in His (CT)holy temple; the [ag]Lords (CU)throne is in heaven;
His (CV)eyes see, His eyelids test the sons of mankind.
The Lord (CW)tests the righteous and (CX)the wicked,
And His soul hates one who loves violence.
He will (CY)rain [ah]coals of fire upon the wicked,
(CZ)And brimstone and (DA)burning wind will be the portion of (DB)their cup.
For the Lord is (DC)righteous, (DD)He loves [ai]righteousness;
The upright will (DE)see His face.

God, a Helper against the Treacherous.

For the music director; [aj]upon an eight-stringed lyre. A Psalm of David.

12 Help, Lord, for (DF)the godly person has come to an end,
For the faithful have disappeared from the sons of mankind.
They (DG)speak [ak]lies to one another;
They speak with [al](DH)flattering lips and a double heart.
May the Lord cut off all [am]flattering lips,
The tongue that (DI)speaks great things;
Who (DJ)have said, “With our tongue we will prevail;
Our lips are [an]our own; who is lord over us?”
“Because of the (DK)devastation of the poor, because of the groaning of the needy,
Now (DL)I will arise,” says the Lord; “I will (DM)put him in the safety for which he longs.”

The (DN)words of the Lord are pure words;
Like silver (DO)refined in a furnace on the ground, filtered seven times.
You, Lord, will keep them;
You will (DP)protect him from this generation forever.
The (DQ)wicked strut about on every side
When [ao](DR)vileness is exalted among the sons of mankind.

Prayer for Help in Trouble.

For the music director. A Psalm of David.

13 How long, Lord? Will You (DS)forget me forever?
How long (DT)will You hide Your face from me?
How long am I to (DU)feel anxious in my soul,
With (DV)grief in my heart all the day?
How long will my enemy be exalted over me?

(DW)Consider and answer me, O Lord my God;
(DX)Enlighten my eyes, or I will (DY)sleep the sleep of death,
And my enemy will (DZ)say, “I have overcome him,”
And (EA)my adversaries will rejoice when I am shaken.

But I have (EB)trusted in Your faithfulness;
My heart shall (EC)rejoice in Your salvation.
I will (ED)sing to the Lord,
Because He has (EE)looked after me.

Foolishness and Wickedness of People.

For the music director. A Psalm of David.

14 The fool has (EF)said in his heart, “There is no God.”
They are corrupt, they have committed detestable acts;
There is (EG)no one who does good.
The Lord has (EH)looked down from heaven upon the sons of mankind
To see if there are any who [ap](EI)understand,
Who (EJ)seek God.
They have all (EK)turned aside, together they are corrupt;
There is (EL)no one who does good, not even one.

Do all the workers of injustice (EM)not know,
Who (EN)devour my people as they eat bread,
And (EO)do not call upon the Lord?
There they are in great dread,
For God is with a (EP)righteous generation.
You would put to shame the plan of the poor,
But the Lord is his (EQ)refuge.

Oh, that (ER)the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion!
When the Lord (ES)restores the fortunes of His people,
Jacob will rejoice, Israel will be glad.

Description of a Citizen of Zion.

A Psalm of David.

15 Lord, who may reside (ET)in Your tent?
Who may settle on Your (EU)holy hill?
One who (EV)walks with integrity, practices righteousness,
And (EW)speaks truth in his heart.
He (EX)does not slander [aq]with his tongue,
Nor (EY)do evil to his neighbor,
Nor (EZ)bring shame on his friend;
A despicable person is despised in his eyes,
But he (FA)honors those who fear the Lord;
He (FB)takes an oath to his own detriment, and does not change;
He (FC)does not [ar]lend his money [as]at interest,
Nor (FD)does he take a bribe against the innocent.
(FE)One who does these things will never be shaken.

The Lord, the Psalmist’s Portion in Life and Salvation in Death.

A [at]Mikhtam of David.

16 (FF)Protect me, God, for (FG)I take refuge in You.
[au]I said to the Lord, “You are [av]my Lord;
I (FH)have nothing good besides You.”
As for the [aw](FI)saints who are on the earth,
[ax]They are the majestic ones; (FJ)all my delight is in them.
[ay]The (FK)pains of those who have acquired another god will be multiplied;
I will not pour out their drink offerings of (FL)blood,
Nor will I (FM)take their names upon my lips.

The Lord is the (FN)portion of my inheritance and my (FO)cup;
You support my (FP)lot.
The measuring (FQ)lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
Indeed, my inheritance is (FR)beautiful to me.

I will bless the Lord who has (FS)advised me;
Indeed, my [az](FT)mind instructs me in the night.
(FU)I have (FV)set the Lord continually before me;
Because He is (FW)at my right hand, (FX)I will not be shaken.
Therefore (FY)my heart is glad and (FZ)my glory rejoices;
My flesh also will (GA)dwell securely.
10 For You (GB)will not abandon my soul to [ba]Sheol;
You will not [bb](GC)allow Your [bc]Holy One to [bd]undergo decay.
11 You will make known to me (GD)the way of life;
In (GE)Your presence is fullness of joy;
In Your right hand there are (GF)pleasures forever.

Psalm 8[a]

For the director of music. According to gittith.[b] A psalm of David.

Lord, our Lord,
    how majestic is your name(A) in all the earth!

You have set your glory(B)
    in the heavens.(C)
Through the praise of children and infants
    you have established a stronghold(D) against your enemies,
    to silence the foe(E) and the avenger.
When I consider your heavens,(F)
    the work of your fingers,(G)
the moon and the stars,(H)
    which you have set in place,
what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
    human beings that you care for them?[c](I)

You have made them[d] a little lower than the angels[e](J)
    and crowned them[f] with glory and honor.(K)
You made them rulers(L) over the works of your hands;(M)
    you put everything under their[g] feet:(N)
all flocks and herds,(O)
    and the animals of the wild,(P)
the birds in the sky,
    and the fish in the sea,(Q)
    all that swim the paths of the seas.

Lord, our Lord,
    how majestic is your name in all the earth!(R)

Psalm 9[h][i]

For the director of music. To the tune of “The Death of the Son.” A psalm of David.

I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart;(S)
    I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.(T)
I will be glad and rejoice(U) in you;
    I will sing the praises(V) of your name,(W) O Most High.

My enemies turn back;
    they stumble and perish before you.
For you have upheld my right(X) and my cause,(Y)
    sitting enthroned(Z) as the righteous judge.(AA)
You have rebuked the nations(AB) and destroyed the wicked;
    you have blotted out their name(AC) for ever and ever.
Endless ruin has overtaken my enemies,
    you have uprooted their cities;(AD)
    even the memory of them(AE) has perished.

The Lord reigns forever;(AF)
    he has established his throne(AG) for judgment.
He rules the world in righteousness(AH)
    and judges the peoples with equity.(AI)
The Lord is a refuge(AJ) for the oppressed,(AK)
    a stronghold in times of trouble.(AL)
10 Those who know your name(AM) trust in you,
    for you, Lord, have never forsaken(AN) those who seek you.(AO)

11 Sing the praises(AP) of the Lord, enthroned in Zion;(AQ)
    proclaim among the nations(AR) what he has done.(AS)
12 For he who avenges blood(AT) remembers;
    he does not ignore the cries of the afflicted.(AU)

13 Lord, see how my enemies(AV) persecute me!
    Have mercy(AW) and lift me up from the gates of death,(AX)
14 that I may declare your praises(AY)
    in the gates of Daughter Zion,(AZ)
    and there rejoice in your salvation.(BA)

15 The nations have fallen into the pit they have dug;(BB)
    their feet are caught in the net they have hidden.(BC)
16 The Lord is known by his acts of justice;
    the wicked are ensnared by the work of their hands.[j](BD)
17 The wicked go down to the realm of the dead,(BE)
    all the nations that forget God.(BF)
18 But God will never forget the needy;
    the hope(BG) of the afflicted(BH) will never perish.

19 Arise,(BI) Lord, do not let mortals triumph;(BJ)
    let the nations be judged(BK) in your presence.
20 Strike them with terror,(BL) Lord;
    let the nations know they are only mortal.(BM)

Psalm 10[k]

Why, Lord, do you stand far off?(BN)
    Why do you hide yourself(BO) in times of trouble?

In his arrogance the wicked man hunts down the weak,(BP)
    who are caught in the schemes he devises.
He boasts(BQ) about the cravings of his heart;
    he blesses the greedy and reviles the Lord.(BR)
In his pride the wicked man does not seek him;
    in all his thoughts there is no room for God.(BS)
His ways are always prosperous;
    your laws are rejected by[l] him;
    he sneers at all his enemies.
He says to himself, “Nothing will ever shake me.”
    He swears, “No one will ever do me harm.”(BT)

His mouth is full(BU) of lies and threats;(BV)
    trouble and evil are under his tongue.(BW)
He lies in wait(BX) near the villages;
    from ambush he murders the innocent.(BY)
His eyes watch in secret for his victims;
    like a lion in cover he lies in wait.
He lies in wait to catch the helpless;(BZ)
    he catches the helpless and drags them off in his net.(CA)
10 His victims are crushed,(CB) they collapse;
    they fall under his strength.
11 He says to himself, “God will never notice;(CC)
    he covers his face and never sees.”(CD)

12 Arise,(CE) Lord! Lift up your hand,(CF) O God.
    Do not forget the helpless.(CG)
13 Why does the wicked man revile God?(CH)
    Why does he say to himself,
    “He won’t call me to account”?(CI)
14 But you, God, see the trouble(CJ) of the afflicted;
    you consider their grief and take it in hand.
The victims commit themselves to you;(CK)
    you are the helper(CL) of the fatherless.
15 Break the arm of the wicked man;(CM)
    call the evildoer to account for his wickedness
    that would not otherwise be found out.

16 The Lord is King for ever and ever;(CN)
    the nations(CO) will perish from his land.
17 You, Lord, hear the desire of the afflicted;(CP)
    you encourage them, and you listen to their cry,(CQ)
18 defending the fatherless(CR) and the oppressed,(CS)
    so that mere earthly mortals
    will never again strike terror.

Psalm 11

For the director of music. Of David.

In the Lord I take refuge.(CT)
    How then can you say to me:
    “Flee(CU) like a bird to your mountain.(CV)
For look, the wicked bend their bows;(CW)
    they set their arrows(CX) against the strings
to shoot from the shadows(CY)
    at the upright in heart.(CZ)
When the foundations(DA) are being destroyed,
    what can the righteous do?”

The Lord is in his holy temple;(DB)
    the Lord is on his heavenly throne.(DC)
He observes everyone on earth;(DD)
    his eyes examine(DE) them.
The Lord examines the righteous,(DF)
    but the wicked, those who love violence,
    he hates with a passion.(DG)
On the wicked he will rain
    fiery coals and burning sulfur;(DH)
    a scorching wind(DI) will be their lot.

For the Lord is righteous,(DJ)
    he loves justice;(DK)
    the upright(DL) will see his face.(DM)

Psalm 12[m]

For the director of music. According to sheminith.[n] A psalm of David.

Help, Lord, for no one is faithful anymore;(DN)
    those who are loyal have vanished from the human race.
Everyone lies(DO) to their neighbor;
    they flatter with their lips
    but harbor deception in their hearts.(DP)

May the Lord silence all flattering lips(DQ)
    and every boastful tongue—(DR)
those who say,
    “By our tongues we will prevail;(DS)
    our own lips will defend us—who is lord over us?”

“Because the poor are plundered(DT) and the needy groan,(DU)
    I will now arise,(DV)” says the Lord.
    “I will protect them(DW) from those who malign them.”
And the words of the Lord are flawless,(DX)
    like silver purified(DY) in a crucible,(DZ)
    like gold[o] refined seven times.

You, Lord, will keep the needy safe(EA)
    and will protect us forever from the wicked,(EB)
who freely strut(EC) about
    when what is vile is honored by the human race.

Psalm 13[p]

For the director of music. A psalm of David.

How long,(ED) Lord? Will you forget me(EE) forever?
    How long will you hide your face(EF) from me?
How long must I wrestle with my thoughts(EG)
    and day after day have sorrow in my heart?
    How long will my enemy triumph over me?(EH)

Look on me(EI) and answer,(EJ) Lord my God.
    Give light to my eyes,(EK) or I will sleep in death,(EL)
and my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,(EM)
    and my foes will rejoice when I fall.(EN)

But I trust in your unfailing love;(EO)
    my heart rejoices in your salvation.(EP)
I will sing(EQ) the Lord’s praise,
    for he has been good to me.

Psalm 14(ER)

For the director of music. Of David.

The fool[q] says in his heart,
    “There is no God.”(ES)
They are corrupt, their deeds are vile;
    there is no one who does good.

The Lord looks down from heaven(ET)
    on all mankind
to see if there are any who understand,(EU)
    any who seek God.(EV)
All have turned away,(EW) all have become corrupt;(EX)
    there is no one who does good,(EY)
    not even one.(EZ)

Do all these evildoers know nothing?(FA)

They devour my people(FB) as though eating bread;
    they never call on the Lord.(FC)
But there they are, overwhelmed with dread,
    for God is present in the company of the righteous.
You evildoers frustrate the plans of the poor,
    but the Lord is their refuge.(FD)

Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion!(FE)
    When the Lord restores(FF) his people,
    let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad!

Psalm 15

A psalm of David.

Lord, who may dwell(FG) in your sacred tent?(FH)
    Who may live on your holy mountain?(FI)

The one whose walk is blameless,(FJ)
    who does what is righteous,
    who speaks the truth(FK) from their heart;
whose tongue utters no slander,(FL)
    who does no wrong to a neighbor,
    and casts no slur on others;
who despises a vile person
    but honors(FM) those who fear the Lord;
who keeps an oath(FN) even when it hurts,
    and does not change their mind;
who lends money to the poor without interest;(FO)
    who does not accept a bribe(FP) against the innocent.

Whoever does these things
    will never be shaken.(FQ)

Psalm 16

A miktam[r] of David.

Keep me safe,(FR) my God,
    for in you I take refuge.(FS)

I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord;(FT)
    apart from you I have no good thing.”(FU)
I say of the holy people(FV) who are in the land,(FW)
    “They are the noble ones in whom is all my delight.”
Those who run after other gods(FX) will suffer(FY) more and more.
    I will not pour out libations of blood to such gods
    or take up their names(FZ) on my lips.

Lord, you alone are my portion(GA) and my cup;(GB)
    you make my lot(GC) secure.
The boundary lines(GD) have fallen for me in pleasant places;
    surely I have a delightful inheritance.(GE)
I will praise the Lord, who counsels me;(GF)
    even at night(GG) my heart instructs me.
I keep my eyes always on the Lord.
    With him at my right hand,(GH) I will not be shaken.(GI)

Therefore my heart is glad(GJ) and my tongue rejoices;
    my body also will rest secure,(GK)
10 because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead,(GL)
    nor will you let your faithful[s] one(GM) see decay.(GN)
11 You make known to me the path of life;(GO)
    you will fill me with joy in your presence,(GP)
    with eternal pleasures(GQ) at your right hand.(GR)
