Contrast of the Upright and the Wicked

15 A ^(A)gentle answer turns away wrath,
But a ^[a]^(B)harsh word stirs up anger.
²The ^(C)tongue of the wise makes knowledge pleasant,
But the ^(D)mouth of fools spouts foolishness.
³The ^(E)eyes of the Lord are in every place,
Watching the evil and the good.
⁴A ^[b]soothing tongue is a tree of life,
But perversion in it ^[c]crushes the spirit.
⁵A fool ^[d]rejects his father’s discipline,
But he who complies with rebuke is sensible.
⁶Great wealth is in the house of the ^(F)righteous,
But trouble is in the income of the wicked.
⁷The lips of the wise spread knowledge,
But the hearts of fools are not so.
⁸The ^(G)sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord,
But ^(H)the prayer of the upright is His delight.
⁹The way of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord,
But He loves the one who ^(I)pursues righteousness.
¹⁰There is severe punishment for one who abandons the way;
One who hates a rebuke will die.
¹¹^[e]^(J)Sheol and ^[f]Abaddon lie open before the Lord,
How much more the ^(K)hearts of ^[g]mankind!
¹²A ^(L)scoffer does not love one who rebukes him;
He will not go to the wise.
¹³A ^(M)joyful heart makes a ^[h]cheerful face,
But ^[i]when the heart is ^(N)sad, the ^(O)spirit is broken.
¹⁴The ^(P)mind of the intelligent seeks knowledge,
But the mouth of fools feeds on foolishness.
¹⁵All the days of the ^[j]needy are bad,
But a ^[k]cheerful heart has a continual feast.
¹⁶^(Q)Better is a little with ^[l]the fear of the Lord
Than great treasure, and turmoil with ^[m]the treasure.
¹⁷^(R)Better is a portion of ^[n]vegetables where there is love,
Than a ^(S)fattened ox served with hatred.
¹⁸A ^(T)hot-tempered person stirs up strife,
But the ^(U)slow to anger ^(V)calms a dispute.
¹⁹The way of the ^[o]lazy one is like a hedge of thorns,
But the path of the upright is a highway.
²⁰A ^(W)wise son makes a father glad,
But a foolish man ^(X)despises his mother.
²¹Foolishness is joy to one who lacks ^[p]sense,
But a person of understanding ^(Y)walks straight.
²²Without consultation, plans are frustrated,
But with many counselors they ^[q]succeed.
²³A ^(Z)person has joy in an ^[r]apt answer,
And how delightful is a timely ^(AA)word!
²⁴The ^(AB)path of life leads upward for the wise,
So that he may keep away from ^[s]Sheol below.
²⁵The Lord will ^(AC)tear down the house of the proud,
But He will ^(AD)set the boundary of the ^(AE)widow.
²⁶Evil plans are an abomination to the Lord,
But pleasant words are pure.
²⁷He who ^(AF)profits illicitly troubles his own house,
But he who ^(AG)hates bribes will live.
²⁸The heart of the righteous ^(AH)ponders how to answer,
But the ^(AI)mouth of the wicked pours out evil things.
²⁹The Lord is ^(AJ)far from the wicked,
But He ^(AK)hears the prayer of the righteous.
³⁰^[t]Bright eyes gladden the heart;
Good news ^[u]refreshes the bones.
³¹One whose ear listens to a life-giving rebuke
Will stay among the wise.
³²One who ^(AL)neglects discipline ^(AM)rejects himself,
But one who ^(AN)listens to a rebuke acquires ^[v]understanding.
³³^[w]The fear of the Lord is the instruction for wisdom,
And before honor comes humility.

Prophecy about Gog and Future Invasion of Israel

38 Now the word of the Lord came to me, saying, ²“Son of man, set your face toward ^(A)Gog of the land of ^(B)Magog, the ^(C)chief prince of ^(D)Meshech and ^(E)Tubal, and prophesy against him, ³and say, ‘This is what the Lord ^[a]God says: “Behold, I am against you, Gog, chief prince of Meshech and Tubal. ⁴So I will turn you around and put hooks into your jaws, and I will ^(F)bring you out, and all your army, ^(G)horses and horsemen, all of them magnificently dressed, a great contingent with shield and ^[b]buckler, all of them wielding swords; ⁵^(H)Persia, ^[c]^(I)Cush, and ^(J)Put with them, all of them with buckler and helmet; ⁶^(K)Gomer with all its troops; ^(L)Beth-togarmah from the remote parts of the north with all its troops—many peoples with you.

⁷“^(M)Be ready, and be prepared, you and all your contingents that are assembled around you, and be a guard for them. ⁸^(N)After many days you will be summoned; in the latter years you will come into the land that is restored from the sword, whose inhabitants have been ^(O)gathered from many ^[d]nations to the ^(P)mountains of Israel which had been a continual place of ruins; but ^[e]its people were brought out from the ^[f]nations, and they are ^(Q)living securely, all of them. ⁹And you will go up, you will come ^(R)like a storm; you will be like a ^(S)cloud covering the land, you and all your troops, and many peoples with you.”

¹⁰‘This is what the Lord God says: “It will come about on that day, that ^[g]thoughts will come into your mind and you will ^(T)devise an evil plan, ¹¹and you will say, ‘I will go up against the land of ^[h]^(U)unwalled villages. I will go against those who are ^(V)at rest, who live securely, all of them living without walls and having no bars or gates, ¹²to ^(W)capture spoils and to seize plunder, to turn your hand against the ruins that are now inhabited, and against the people who are gathered from the nations, who have acquired livestock and goods, who live at the ^[i]center of the world.’ ¹³^(X)Sheba and ^(Y)Dedan and the merchants of ^(Z)Tarshish with all its ^[j]villages will say to you, ‘Have you come to capture spoils? Have you assembled your contingent to seize plunder, to carry away silver and gold, to take away livestock and goods, to capture great ^(AA)spoils?’”’

¹⁴“Therefore prophesy, son of man, and say to Gog, ‘This is what the Lord God says: “On that day when My people Israel are ^(AB)living securely, will you not know it? ¹⁵^(AC)You will come from your place out of the remote parts of the north, you and many peoples with you, all of them riding horses, a large assembly and a mighty army; ¹⁶and you will come up against My people Israel like a cloud to cover the land. It shall come about in the last days that I will bring you against My land, so that the nations may ^(AD)know Me when I ^(AE)show Myself holy through you before their eyes, Gog.”

¹⁷‘This is what the Lord God says: “Are you the one of whom I spoke in former days through My servants the prophets of Israel, who ^(AF)prophesied in those days for many years that I would bring you against them? ¹⁸It will come about on that day, when Gog comes against the land of Israel,” declares the Lord God, “that My fury will mount up in My ^(AG)anger. ¹⁹In My ^(AH)zeal and in My blazing wrath I declare that on that day there will certainly be a great ^[k]^(AI)earthquake in the land of Israel. ²⁰^(AJ)The fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the animals of the field, all the crawling things that crawl on the earth, and all mankind who are on the face of the earth will shake at My presence; and the ^(AK)mountains will be thrown down, the steep pathways will ^[l]collapse, and every wall will fall to the ground. ²¹And I will call for a ^(AL)sword against ^[m]him on all My mountains,” declares the Lord God. “^(AM)Every man’s sword will be against his brother. ²²With plague and with blood I will enter into ^(AN)judgment with him; and I will rain on him and on his troops, and on the many peoples who are with him, ^[n]a torrential rain, ^(AO)hailstones, fire, and brimstone. ²³So I will prove Myself great, show Myself holy, and ^(AP)make Myself known in the sight of many nations; and they will know that I am the Lord.”’

Prophecy against Gog—Invaders Destroyed

39 “And ^(A)you, son of man, prophesy against Gog and say, ‘This is what the Lord ^[a]God says: “Behold, I am against you, Gog, chief prince of Meshech and Tubal; ²and I will turn you around, lead you on a rope, take you up from the remotest parts of the north, and bring you against the mountains of Israel. ³Then I will ^(B)strike your bow from your left hand and make your arrows fall from your right hand. ⁴You will ^(C)fall on the mountains of Israel, you and all your troops, and the peoples who are with you; I will give you as ^(D)food to every ^[b]kind of predatory bird and animal of the field. ⁵You will fall on the ^[c]open field; for it is I who have spoken,” declares the Lord God. ⁶“And I will send ^(E)fire upon Magog and those who inhabit the ^(F)coastlands in safety; and they will know that I am the Lord.

⁷“And I will make My ^(G)holy name known in the midst of My people Israel; and I will not allow My holy name to be ^(H)profaned anymore. But the ^(I)nations will know that I am the Lord, the ^(J)Holy One in Israel. ⁸Behold, it is coming and it shall be done,” declares the Lord God. “That is the day of which I have spoken.

⁹“Then those who inhabit the cities of Israel will ^(K)go out and make ^(L)fires with the weapons and burn them, both ^[d]bucklers and shields, bows and arrows, war clubs and spears, and for seven years they will make fires of them. ¹⁰They will not take wood from the field or gather firewood from the forests, because they will make fires with the weapons; and they will take the spoils of those who plundered them and seize the ^(M)plunder of those who plundered them,” declares the Lord God.

¹¹“On that day I will give Gog a burial place there in Israel, the valley of those who pass by east of the sea, and it will block the way of those who would pass by. So they will bury Gog there with all his horde, and they will call it the Valley of ^[e]Hamon-gog. ¹²For seven months the house of Israel will be burying them in order to ^(N)cleanse the land. ¹³And all the people of the land will bury them; and it will be ^[f]to their ^(O)renown on the day that I ^(P)appear in My glory,” declares the Lord God. ¹⁴“They will also select men who will constantly pass through the land, ^(Q)burying those who were passing through, those left on the surface of the ground, in order to cleanse it. At the end of seven months they will conduct a search. ¹⁵As those who pass through the land pass through and anyone sees a human bone, then he will ^[g]set up a marker by it until the burial detail has buried it in the Valley of ^[h]Hamon-gog. ¹⁶And even the name of the city will be Hamonah. So they will cleanse the land.”’

¹⁷“Now as for you, son of man, this is what the Lord God says: ‘Say to every ^[i]kind of ^(R)bird and to every ^(S)animal of the field: “Assemble and come, gather from every direction to My sacrifice, which I am going to ^(T)sacrifice for you as a great sacrifice on the mountains of Israel; and you will eat flesh and drink blood. ¹⁸You will ^(U)eat the flesh of warriors and drink the blood of the leaders of the earth, as though they were ^(V)rams, lambs, goats, and ^(W)bulls, all of them fattened livestock of ^(X)Bashan. ¹⁹So you will eat fat until you are full, and drink blood until you are drunk, from My sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you. ²⁰You will eat your fill at My table with ^(Y)horses and charioteers, with warriors and all the men of war,” declares the Lord God.

²¹“And I will place My ^(Z)glory among the nations; and all the nations will see My judgment which I have executed, and My hand which I have laid on them. ²²And the house of Israel will ^(AA)know that I am the Lord their God, from that day onward. ²³The nations will know that the house of Israel went into exile for their ^(AB)wrongdoing, because they were disloyal to Me, and I ^(AC)hid My face from them; so I handed them over to their adversaries, and all of them fell by the sword. ²⁴^(AD)In accordance with their uncleanness and their offenses I dealt with them, and I hid My face from them.”’”

Israel Restored

²⁵Therefore this is what the Lord God says: “Now I will ^(AE)restore the fortunes of Jacob and have mercy on all the ^(AF)house of Israel; and I will be ^(AG)jealous for My holy name. ²⁶They will ^[j]^(AH)forget their disgrace and all their ^[k]treachery which they perpetrated against Me, when they ^(AI)live securely on their own land with ^(AJ)no one to make them afraid. ²⁷When I ^(AK)bring them back from the peoples and gather them from the lands of their enemies, then I shall ^(AL)show Myself holy ^[l]through them in the sight of the many nations. ²⁸Then they will know that I am the Lord their God because I made them go into exile among the nations, and then I gathered them again to their own land; and I will leave none of them there any longer. ²⁹I will not hide My face from them any longer, for I will have ^(AM)poured out My Spirit on the house of Israel,” declares the Lord God.

The Lord Exalted for His Goodness.

A Psalm of Praise, of David.

145 I will ^(A)exalt You, ^(B)my God, the King,
And I will ^(C)bless Your name forever and ever.
²Every day I will bless You,
And I will ^(D)praise Your name forever and ever.
³^(E)Great is the Lord, and highly to be praised;
And His ^(F)greatness is unsearchable.
⁴One ^(G)generation will praise Your works to another,
And will declare Your mighty acts.
⁵On the ^(H)glorious ^[a]splendor of Your majesty
And ^(I)on Your wonderful works, I will meditate.
⁶People will speak of the ^[b]power of Your ^(J)awesome acts,
And I will ^(K)tell of Your greatness.

Revelation 20

Satan Bound

20 Then I saw ^(A)an angel coming down from heaven, holding the ^(B)key of the abyss and a great chain ^[a]in his hand. ²And he took hold of the ^(C)dragon, the serpent of old, who is the devil and Satan, and ^(D)bound him for a thousand years; ³and he threw him into the ^(E)abyss and shut it and ^(F)sealed it over him, so that he would ^(G)not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were completed; after these things he must be released for a short time.

⁴Then I saw ^(H)thrones, and ^(I)they sat on them, and ^(J)judgment was given to them. And I saw ^(K)the souls of those who had been beheaded because of ^[b]their ^(L)testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, and those who had not ^(M)worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received the ^(N)mark on their foreheads and on their hands; and they ^(O)came to life and ^(P)reigned with Christ for a thousand years. ⁵The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were completed. ^(Q)This is the first resurrection. ⁶^(R)Blessed and holy is the one who has a part in the first resurrection; over these the ^(S)second death has no power, but they will be ^(T)priests of God and of Christ, and will ^(U)reign with Him for a thousand years.

Satan Freed and Doomed

⁷When the thousand years are completed, Satan will be ^(V)released from his prison, ⁸and will come out to ^(W)deceive the nations which are at the ^(X)four corners of the earth, ^(Y)Gog and Magog, to ^(Z)gather them together for the war; the number of them is like the ^(AA)sand of the ^[c]seashore. ⁹And they ^(AB)came up on the ^[d]broad plain of the earth and surrounded the ^(AC)camp of the ^[e]saints and the ^(AD)beloved city, and ^(AE)fire came down from heaven and devoured them. ¹⁰And ^(AF)the devil who ^(AG)deceived them was thrown into the ^(AH)lake of fire and ^[f]brimstone, where the ^(AI)beast and the ^(AJ)false prophet are also; and they will be ^(AK)tormented day and night forever and ever.

Judgment at the Throne of God

¹¹Then I saw a great white ^(AL)throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose ^[g]presence ^(AM)earth and heaven fled, and ^(AN)no place was found for them. ¹²And I saw the dead, the ^(AO)great and the small, standing before the throne, and ^[h]^(AP)books were opened; and another ^[i]book was opened, which is ^(AQ)the book of life; and the dead ^(AR)were judged from the things which were written in the ^[j]books, ^(AS)according to their deeds. ¹³And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, and ^(AT)Death and Hades ^(AU)gave up the dead who were in them; and they were judged, each one of them ^(AV)according to their deeds. ¹⁴Then ^(AW)Death and Hades were thrown into ^(AX)the lake of fire. This is the ^(AY)second death, the lake of fire. ¹⁵And if ^[k]anyone’s name was not found written in ^(AZ)the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
