⁸ A person’s riches may ransom their life,
    but the poor cannot respond to threatening rebukes.^(K)

    but the lamp of the wicked is snuffed out.^(L)

¹⁰ Where there is strife, there is pride,
    but wisdom is found in those who take advice.^(M)

¹² Hope deferred makes the heart sick,

²⁷ The greedy bring ruin to their households,

²⁸ The heart of the righteous weighs its answers,^(DU)
    but the mouth of the wicked gushes evil.^(DV)

²⁹ The Lord is far from the wicked,
    but he hears the prayer of the righteous.^(DW)

³⁰ Light in a messenger’s eyes brings joy to the heart,
    and good news gives health to the bones.^(DX)

    will be at home among the wise.^(DY)
