²³ Above all else, guard^(A) your heart,
    for everything you do flows from it.^(B)

⁷ The law of the Lord^(A) is perfect,^(B)
    refreshing the soul.^(C)
The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy,^(D)
    making wise the simple.^(E)
8 The precepts of the Lord are right,^(F)
    giving joy^(G) to the heart.
The commands of the Lord are radiant,
    giving light to the eyes.^(H)
9 The fear of the Lord^(I) is pure,
    enduring forever.
The decrees of the Lord are firm,
    and all of them are righteous.^(J)

¹⁰ They are more precious than gold,^(K)
    than much pure gold;
they are sweeter than honey,^(L)
    than honey from the honeycomb.^(M)
11 By them your servant is warned;
    in keeping them there is great reward.

16 To humans belong the plans of the heart,
    but from the Lord comes the proper answer of the tongue.^(A)

² All a person’s ways seem pure to them,^(B)
    but motives are weighed^(C) by the Lord.^(D)

³ Commit to the Lord whatever you do,
    and he will establish your plans.^(E)

⁸ I desire to do your will,^(A) my God;^(B)
    your law is within my heart.”^(C)

³¹ “The days are coming,” declares the Lord,
    “when I will make a new covenant^(A)
with the people of Israel
    and with the people of Judah.
³² It will not be like the covenant^(B)
    I made with their ancestors^(C)
when I took them by the hand
    to lead them out of Egypt,^(D)
because they broke my covenant,
    though I was a husband^(E) to^[a] them,^[b]”
declares the Lord.
³³ “This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel
    after that time,” declares the Lord.
“I will put my law in their minds^(F)
    and write it on their hearts.^(G)
I will be their God,
    and they will be my people.^(H)
34 No longer will they teach^(I) their neighbor,
    or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’
because they will all know^(J) me,
    from the least of them to the greatest,”
declares the Lord.
“For I will forgive^(K) their wickedness
    and will remember their sins^(L) no more.”

²³ The Lord makes firm the steps^(A)
    of the one who delights^(B) in him;
²⁴ though he may stumble, he will not fall,^(C)
    for the Lord upholds^(D) him with his hand.

²⁵ I was young and now I am old,
    yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken^(E)
    or their children begging^(F) bread.
²⁶ They are always generous and lend freely;^(G)
    their children will be a blessing.^[a](H)

²⁷ Turn from evil and do good;^(I)
    then you will dwell in the land forever.^(J)
28 For the Lord loves the just
    and will not forsake his faithful ones.^(K)

Wrongdoers will be completely destroyed^[b];
    the offspring of the wicked will perish.^(L)
29 The righteous will inherit the land^(M)
    and dwell in it forever.^(N)

³⁰ The mouths of the righteous utter wisdom,^(O)
    and their tongues speak what is just.
³¹ The law of their God is in their hearts;^(P)
    their feet do not slip.^(Q)
