¹⁶ Let your light so shine before men, ^(A)that they may see your good works and ^(B)glorify your Father in heaven.

^19 (A)If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet ^(B)because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.

¹⁴ I have given them Your word; ^(A)and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, ^(B)just as I am not of the world. ¹⁵ I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but ^(C)that You should keep them from the evil one.

² And ^(A)do not be conformed to this world, but ^(B)be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may ^(C)prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Do Not Love the World

^15 (A)Do not love the world or the things in the world. ^(B)If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. ¹⁶ For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, ^(C)the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.

¹⁹ We know that we are of God, and ^(A)the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one.

^4 [a]Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that ^(A)friendship with the world is enmity with God? ^(B)Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
