Institution of the Lord's Supper

26 (A)Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and (B)after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; (C)this is my body.” 27 And he took a cup, and when he (D)had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you, 28 for (E)this is my (F)blood of the[a] covenant, which is poured out for (G)many (H)for the forgiveness of sins. 29 I tell you I will not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you (I)in my Father's kingdom.”

Jesus Foretells Peter's Denial

30 (J)And when they had sung a hymn, (K)they went out to (L)the Mount of Olives. 31 Then Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away because of me this night. For it is written, ‘I will (M)strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’ 32 But after I am raised up, (N)I will go before you to Galilee.” 33 (O)Peter answered him, “Though they all fall away because of you, I will never fall away.” 34 (P)Jesus said to him, “Truly, I tell you, this very night, (Q)before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.” 35 (R)Peter said to him, “Even if I must die with you, I will not deny you!” And all the disciples said the same.

Jesus Prays in Gethsemane

36 (S)Then Jesus went with them (T)to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, “Sit here, while I go over there and pray.” 37 And taking with him (U)Peter and (V)the two sons of Zebedee, he began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38 Then he said to them, (W)“My soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and (X)watch[b] with me.” 39 And going a little farther he fell on his face (Y)and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it be possible, let (Z)this cup pass from me; (AA)nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.” 40 And he came to the disciples and found them sleeping. And he said to Peter, “So, could you not watch with me one hour? 41 (AB)Watch and (AC)pray that you (AD)may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” 42 Again, for the second time, he went away and prayed, “My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, (AE)your will be done.” 43 And again he came and found them sleeping, for (AF)their eyes were heavy. 44 So, leaving them again, he went away and prayed for (AG)the third time, saying the same words again. 45 Then he came to the disciples and said to them, “Sleep and take your rest later on.[c] See, (AH)the hour is at hand, and (AI)the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 46 Rise, let us be going; see, my betrayer is at hand.”

The Death of Jesus

45 Now from the sixth hour[a] there was darkness over all the land[b] until the ninth hour.[c] 46 And about the ninth hour Jesus (A)cried out with a loud voice, saying, (B)“Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” 47 And some of the bystanders, hearing it, said, “This man is calling Elijah.” 48 And one of them at once ran and took a sponge, filled it with (C)sour wine, and put it on a reed and (D)gave it to him to drink. 49 But the others said, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to save him.” 50 And Jesus (E)cried out again with a loud voice and (F)yielded up his spirit.

51 And behold, (G)the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And (H)the earth shook, and the rocks were split. 52 The tombs also were opened. And many bodies of (I)the saints (J)who had fallen asleep were raised, 53 and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they went into (K)the holy city and appeared to many. 54 (L)When the centurion and those who were with him, (M)keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were filled with awe and said, (N)“Truly this was the Son[d] of God!”

The Ministry of Reconciliation

11 Therefore, knowing (A)the fear of the Lord, we persuade others. But (B)what we are is known to God, and I hope it is known also to your conscience. 12 (C)We are not commending ourselves to you again but (D)giving you cause to boast about us, so that you may be able to answer those who boast about outward appearance and not about what is in the heart. 13 For if we (E)are beside ourselves, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you. 14 For the love of Christ (F)controls us, because we have concluded this: that (G)one has died for all, therefore all have died; 15 and he died for all, (H)that those who live might no longer live for themselves but (I)for him who for their sake died and was raised.

16 From now on, therefore, (J)we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we once regarded Christ according to the flesh, we regard him thus no longer. 17 Therefore, if anyone is (K)in Christ, he is (L)a new creation.[a] (M)The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 18 All this is from God, (N)who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us (O)the ministry of reconciliation; 19 that is, in Christ God was reconciling[b] the world to himself, (P)not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us (Q)the message of reconciliation. 20 Therefore, (R)we are ambassadors for Christ, (S)God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 (T)For our sake he made him to be sin (U)who knew no sin, so that in him we might become (V)the righteousness of God.
