³⁸Þá sögðu nokkrir fræðimenn og farísear við hann: "Meistari, vér viljum sjá þig gjöra tákn."

³⁹Hann svaraði þeim: "Vond og ótrú kynslóð heimtar tákn, en eigi verður henni annað tákn gefið en tákn Jónasar spámanns.

³⁸Then some of the Pharisees and teachers of the law said to him, “Teacher, we want to see a sign^(C) from you.”^(D)

³⁹He answered, “A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a sign! But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.^(E)
