The Necessity for Watchfulness

³⁶ “But about that day and hour no one knows, neither the angels of heaven, nor the Son,^[a] but only the Father.

⁴² Keep awake, therefore, for you do not know on what day^[a] your Lord is coming.^(A)

⁴⁴ Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.^(A)

²³ But be alert; I have already told you everything.^(A)

The Necessity for Watchfulness

³² “But about that day or hour no one knows, neither the angels in heaven nor the Son, but only the Father.^{(A) 33} Beware, keep alert,^[a] for you do not know when the time will come.^(B)

³⁵ Therefore, keep awake, for you do not know when the master of the house will come, in the evening or at midnight or at cockcrow or at dawn,^{(A) 36} or else he may find you asleep when he comes suddenly. ³⁷ And what I say to you I say to all: Keep awake.”

²⁸ Now when these things begin to take place, stand up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”^[a](A)

Exhortation to Watch

³⁴ “Be on guard so that your hearts are not weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of this life and that day does not catch you unexpectedly,^{(A) 35} like a trap. For it will come upon all who live on the face of the whole earth. ³⁶ Be alert at all times, praying that you may have the strength to escape all these things that will take place and to stand before the Son of Man.”^(B)
