La parábola de los labradores malvados(A)

12 Jesús comenzó a hablarles por medio de parábolas. Les dijo: «Un hombre plantó un viñedo y le puso un cerco; preparó un lugar donde hacer el vino y levantó una torre para vigilarlo todo. Luego alquiló el terreno a unos labradores y se fue de viaje. 2 A su debido tiempo, mandó un criado a pedir a los labradores la parte de la cosecha que le correspondía. 3 Pero ellos le echaron mano, lo golpearon y lo enviaron con las manos vacías. 4 Entonces el dueño mandó otro criado, pero a éste lo hirieron en la cabeza y lo insultaron. 5 Mandó a otro, y a éste lo mataron. Después mandó a otros muchos; y a unos los golpearon y a otros los mataron.

6 »Todavía le quedaba uno: su propio hijo, a quien quería mucho. Por último lo mandó a él, pensando: “Sin duda, respetarán a mi hijo.” 7 Pero los labradores se dijeron unos a otros: “Éste es el que ha de recibir la herencia; matémoslo, y será nuestra la propiedad.” 8 Así que lo agarraron, lo mataron y arrojaron el cuerpo fuera del viñedo.

9 »¿Y qué creen ustedes que hará el dueño del viñedo? Pues irá y matará a esos labradores, y dará el viñedo a otros.

10 »¿No han leído ustedes la Escritura? Dice:

“La piedra que los constructores despreciaron
se ha convertido en la piedra principal.
11 Esto lo hizo el Señor,
y estamos maravillados.”»

12 Quisieron entonces arrestar a Jesús, porque sabían que había usado esta parábola contra ellos. Pero como tenían miedo de la gente, lo dejaron y se fueron.

La pregunta sobre los impuestos(B)

13 Mandaron a Jesús algunos de los fariseos y del partido de Herodes, para hacerle decir algo de que pudieran acusarlo. 14 Éstos fueron y le dijeron:

—Maestro, sabemos que tú dices la verdad, sin dejarte llevar por lo que diga la gente, porque no hablas para darles gusto. Tú enseñas de veras el camino de Dios. ¿Está bien que paguemos impuestos al emperador romano, o no? ¿Debemos o no debemos pagarlos?

15 Pero Jesús, que conocía su hipocresía, les dijo:

—¿Por qué me tienden trampas? Tráiganme una moneda de denario, para que la vea.

16 Se la llevaron, y Jesús les dijo:

—¿De quién es ésta cara y el nombre que aquí está escrito?

Le contestaron:

—Del emperador.

17 Entonces Jesús les dijo:

—Pues den al emperador lo que es del emperador, y a Dios lo que es de Dios.

Y su respuesta los dejó admirados.

La pregunta sobre la resurrección(C)

18 Entonces fueron a ver a Jesús algunos saduceos. Éstos dicen que los muertos no resucitan; por eso le presentaron este caso:

19 —Maestro, Moisés nos dejó escrito que si un hombre casado muere sin haber tenido hijos con su mujer, el hermano del difunto deberá tomar por esposa a la viuda, para darle hijos al hermano que murió. 20 Pues bien, había una vez siete hermanos, el primero de los cuales se casó, pero murió sin dejar hijos. 21 Entonces el segundo se casó con la viuda, pero él también murió sin dejar hijos. Lo mismo pasó con el tercero, 22 y con los siete; pero ninguno dejó hijos. Finalmente murió también la mujer. 23 Pues bien, en la resurrección, cuando vuelvan a vivir, ¿de cuál de ellos será esposa esta mujer, si los siete estuvieron casados con ella?

24 Jesús les contestó:

—Ustedes están equivocados, porque no conocen las Escrituras ni el poder de Dios. 25 Cuando los muertos resuciten, los hombres y las mujeres no se casarán, pues serán como los ángeles que están en el cielo. 26 Y en cuanto a que los muertos resucitan, ¿no han leído ustedes en el libro de Moisés el pasaje de la zarza que ardía? Dios le dijo a Moisés: “Yo soy el Dios de Abraham, de Isaac y de Jacob.” 27 ¡Y él no es Dios de muertos, sino de vivos! Ustedes están muy equivocados.

El mandamiento más importante(D)

28 Al ver que Jesús les había contestado bien, uno de los maestros de la ley, que los había oído discutir, se acercó a él y le preguntó:

—¿Cuál es el primero de todos los mandamientos?

29 Jesús le contestó:

—El primer mandamiento de todos es: “Oye, Israel: el Señor nuestro Dios es el único Señor. 30 Ama al Señor tu Dios con todo tu corazón, con toda tu alma, con toda tu mente y con todas tus fuerzas.” 31 Pero hay un segundo: “Ama a tu prójimo como a ti mismo.” Ningún mandamiento es más importante que éstos.

32 El maestro de la ley le dijo:

—Muy bien, Maestro. Es verdad lo que dices: hay un solo Dios, y no hay otro fuera de él. 33 Y amar a Dios con todo el corazón, con todo el entendimiento y con todas las fuerzas, y amar al prójimo como a uno mismo, vale más que todos los holocaustos y todos los sacrificios que se queman en el altar.

34 Al ver Jesús que el maestro de la ley había contestado con buen sentido, le dijo:

—No estás lejos del reino de Dios.

Y ya nadie se atrevía a hacerle más preguntas.

¿De quién desciende el Mesías?(E)

35 Jesús estaba enseñando en el templo, y preguntó:

—¿Por qué dicen los maestros de la ley que el Mesías desciende de David? 36 Pues David mismo, inspirado por el Espíritu Santo, dijo:

“El Señor dijo a mi Señor:
Siéntate a mi derecha,
hasta que yo ponga a tus enemigos
debajo de tus pies.”

37 ¿Pero cómo puede el Mesías descender de David, si David mismo lo llama Señor?

La gente, que era mucha, escuchaba con gusto a Jesús.

Jesús denuncia a los maestros de la ley(F)

38 Jesús decía en su enseñanza: «Cuídense de los maestros de la ley, pues les gusta andar con ropas largas y que los saluden con todo respeto en las plazas. 39 Buscan los asientos de honor en las sinagogas y los mejores lugares en las comidas; 40 y despojan de sus bienes a las viudas, y para disimularlo hacen largas oraciones. Ellos recibirán mayor castigo.»

La ofrenda de la viuda pobre(G)

41 Jesús estaba una vez sentado frente a los cofres de las ofrendas, mirando cómo la gente echaba dinero en ellos. Muchos ricos echaban mucho dinero. 42 En esto llegó una viuda pobre, y echó en uno de los cofres dos moneditas de cobre, de muy poco valor. 43 Entonces Jesús llamó a sus discípulos, y les dijo:

—Les aseguro que esta viuda pobre ha dado más que todos los otros que echan dinero en los cofres; 44 pues todos dan de lo que les sobra, pero ella, en su pobreza, ha dado todo lo que tenía para vivir.

Jesús anuncia que el templo será destruido(H)

13 Al salir Jesús del templo, uno de sus discípulos le dijo:

—¡Maestro, mira qué piedras y qué edificios!

2 Jesús le contestó:

—¿Ves estos grandes edificios? Pues no va a quedar de ellos ni una piedra sobre otra. Todo será destruido.

Señales antes del fin(I)

3 Luego se fueron al Monte de los Olivos, que está frente al templo. Jesús se sentó, y Pedro, Santiago, Juan y Andrés le preguntaron aparte 4 cuándo iba a ocurrir esto y cuál sería la señal de que todo esto estaría para llegar a su término.

5 Jesús les contestó: «Tengan cuidado de que nadie los engañe. 6 Porque vendrán muchos haciéndose pasar por mí. Dirán: “Yo soy”, y engañarán a mucha gente.

7 »Cuando ustedes tengan noticias de que hay guerras aquí y allá, no se asusten. Así tiene que ocurrir; sin embargo, aún no será el fin. 8 Porque una nación peleará contra otra y un país hará guerra contra otro; y habrá terremotos en muchos lugares, y habrá hambres. Eso apenas será el comienzo de los dolores.

9 »Cuídense ustedes mismos; porque los entregarán a las autoridades y los golpearán en las sinagogas. Los harán comparecer ante gobernadores y reyes por causa mía; así podrán dar testimonio de mí delante de ellos. 10 Pues antes del fin, el evangelio tiene que anunciarse a todas las naciones. 11 Y no se preocupen ustedes por lo que hayan de decir cuando los entreguen a las autoridades. En esos momentos digan lo que Dios les dé a decir, porque no serán ustedes los que hablen, sino el Espíritu Santo. 12 Los hermanos entregarán a la muerte a sus hermanos, y los padres a los hijos; y los hijos se volverán contra sus padres y los matarán. 13 Todo el mundo los odiará a ustedes por causa mía; pero el que siga firme hasta el fin, se salvará.

14 »Cuando ustedes vean el horrible sacrilegio en el lugar donde no debe estar —el que lee, entienda—, entonces los que estén en Judea, que huyan a las montañas; 15 y el que esté en la azotea de su casa, que no baje ni entre a sacar nada; 16 y el que esté en el campo, que no regrese ni aun a recoger su capa. 17 ¡Pobres mujeres aquellas que en tales días estén embarazadas o tengan niños de pecho! 18 Pidan ustedes a Dios que esto no suceda en el invierno, 19 porque serán días de un sufrimiento como nunca lo ha habido desde que Dios, en el principio, hizo el mundo hasta ahora, ni lo habrá después. 20 Y si el Señor no acortara ese tiempo, no se salvaría nadie; pero lo ha acortado por amor a los suyos, a los que él ha escogido.

21 »Si entonces alguien les dice a ustedes: “Miren, aquí está el Mesías”, o “Miren, allí está”, no lo crean. 22 Pues vendrán falsos mesías y falsos profetas; y harán señales y milagros, para engañar, de ser posible, hasta a los que Dios mismo ha escogido. 23 ¡Tengan cuidado! Todo esto ya se lo he advertido a ustedes de antemano.

El regreso del Hijo del hombre(J)

24 »Pero en aquellos días, pasado el tiempo de sufrimiento, el sol se oscurecerá, la luna dejará de dar su luz, 25 las estrellas caerán del cielo y las fuerzas celestiales temblarán. 26 Entonces se verá al Hijo del hombre venir en las nubes con gran poder y gloria. 27 Él mandará a los ángeles, y reunirá a sus escogidos de los cuatro puntos cardinales, desde el último rincón de la tierra hasta el último rincón del cielo.

28 »Aprendan esta enseñanza de la higuera: Cuando sus ramas se ponen tiernas, y brotan sus hojas, se dan cuenta ustedes de que ya el verano está cerca. 29 De la misma manera, cuando vean que suceden estas cosas, sepan que el Hijo del hombre ya está a la puerta. 30 Les aseguro que todo esto sucederá antes que muera la gente de este tiempo. 31 El cielo y la tierra dejarán de existir, pero mis palabras no dejarán de cumplirse.

32 »Pero en cuanto al día y la hora, nadie lo sabe, ni aun los ángeles del cielo, ni el Hijo. Solamente lo sabe el Padre.

33 »Por lo tanto, manténganse ustedes despiertos y vigilantes, porque no saben cuándo llegará el momento. 34 Deben hacer como en el caso de un hombre que, estando a punto de irse a otro país, encargó a sus criados que le cuidaran la casa. A cada cual le dejó un trabajo, y ordenó al portero que vigilara. 35 Manténganse ustedes despiertos, porque no saben cuándo va a llegar el señor de la casa, si al anochecer, a la medianoche, al canto del gallo o a la mañana; 36 no sea que venga de repente y los encuentre durmiendo. 37 Lo que les digo a ustedes se lo digo a todos: ¡Manténganse despiertos!»

Ang Talinghaga tungkol sa Masasamang Magsasaka(A)

12 Nangaral si Jesus sa mga tao sa pamamagitan ng mga talinghaga. Sinabi niya, “May isang taong nagtanim ng ubas sa kanyang bukid. Pinabakuran niya iyon at nagpagawa siya ng pisaan ng ubas. Nagtayo rin siya ng isang bantayang tore. At pagkatapos ay pinaupahan niya ang kanyang ubasan sa mga magsasaka at pumunta siya sa malayong lugar. 2 Nang panahon na ng pamimitas ng ubas, pinapunta niya ang isang alipin sa mga magsasakang umuupa ng kanyang ubasan para kunin ang parte niya. 3 Pero sinunggaban ng mga magsasaka ang alipin at binugbog, at pinaalis nang walang dala. 4 Nagsugo ulit ang may-ari ng isa pang alipin, pero ipinahiya nila ito at hinampas sa ulo. 5 Muli pang nagsugo ang may-ari ng isa pang alipin, pero pinatay nila ito. Marami pang isinugo ang may-ari, pero ang ibaʼy binugbog din at ang ibaʼy pinatay. 6 Sa bandang huli, wala na siyang maisugo. Kaya isinugo niya ang pinakamamahal niyang anak. Sapagkat iniisip niyang igagalang nila ang kanyang anak. 7 Pero nang makita ng mga magsasaka ang kanyang anak, sinabi nila, ‘Narito na ang tagapagmana. Halikayo, patayin natin siya para mapasaatin na ang lupang mamanahin niya.’ 8 Kaya sinunggaban nila ang anak, pinatay at itinapon sa labas ng ubasan.”

9 Pagkatapos, nagtanong si Jesus, “Ano kaya ang gagawin ng may-ari ng ubasan? Tiyak na pupuntahan niya ang mga magsasaka at papatayin. Pagkatapos, pauupahan niya sa iba ang kanyang ubasan. 10 Hindi nʼyo ba nabasa ang talatang ito sa Kasulatan?

‘Ang batong tinanggihan ng mga tagapagtayo ng bahay
ang siyang naging batong pundasyon.[a]
11 Gawa ito ng Panginoon
    at kahanga-hanga ito sa atin!’ ”[b]

12 Alam ng mga pinuno ng mga Judio na sila ang pinatatamaan ni Jesus sa talinghaga na iyon. Kaya gusto nilang dakpin si Jesus, pero natatakot sila sa mga tao. Kaya pinabayaan na lang nila si Jesus, at umalis sila.

Ang Tanong tungkol sa Pagbabayad ng Buwis(B)

13 Pinapunta ng mga pinuno ng mga Judio kay Jesus ang ilang Pariseo at ilang tauhan ni Herodes upang subaybayan ang mga sinasabi niya para may maiparatang sila laban sa kanya. 14 Kaya lumapit sila kay Jesus at nagtanong, “Guro, alam po naming totoo ang mga sinasabi nʼyo, at wala kayong pinapaboran. Sapagkat hindi kayo tumitingin sa katayuan ng tao, kundi kung ano ang katotohanan tungkol sa kalooban ng Dios ang siyang itinuturo ninyo. Ngayon, tama po ba na tayong mga Judio ay magbayad ng buwis sa Emperador ng Roma?[c] Dapat po ba tayong magbayad o hindi?” 15 Pero alam ni Jesus na nagkukunwari sila, kaya sinabi niya, “Bakit ninyo ako sinusubukang hulihin sa tanong na iyan? Magdala nga kayo rito ng pera[d] at titingnan ko.” 16 Dinalhan nga nila ng pera si Jesus. Nagtanong si Jesus, “Kaninong mukha at pangalan ang nakaukit sa pera?” Sumagot sila, “Sa Emperador.” 17 Kaya sinabi ni Jesus sa kanila, “Ibigay ninyo sa Emperador ang para sa Emperador, at sa Dios ang para sa Dios.” Namangha sila sa kanyang sagot.

Ang Tanong tungkol sa Muling Pagkabuhay(C)

18 May mga Saduceo na lumapit kay Jesus at nagtanong. (Ang mga taong ito ay hindi naniniwala sa muling pagkabuhay.) 19 Sinabi nila, “Guro, ayon po sa batas na isinulat ni Moises, kapag ang isang lalaki ay namatay na walang anak sa kanyang asawa, dapat ay pakasalan ng kapatid niyang lalaki ang naiwan niyang asawa, para magkaanak sila para sa kanya.[e] 20 Ngayon, may pitong magkakapatid na lalaki. Nag-asawa ang panganay, at namatay na walang anak. 21 Kaya ang biyuda ay napangasawa ng ikalawang kapatid. Pero namatay din siya nang wala silang anak. Ganoon din ang nangyari sa ikatlo 22 hanggang sa ikapitong kapatid. Namatay silang lahat nang walang anak sa babae. At sa huli, namatay din ang babae. 23 Ngayon, sa araw ng muling pagkabuhay ng mga patay, sino po sa pito ang magiging asawa ng babaeng iyon dahil napangasawa niya silang lahat?”

24 Sumagot si Jesus, “Maling-mali kayo, dahil hindi ninyo nauunawaan ang Kasulatan at ang kapangyarihan ng Dios. 25 Sapagkat sa muling pagkabuhay ay wala nang pag-aasawa. Magiging tulad sila ng mga anghel sa langit. 26 Tungkol naman sa muling pagkabuhay, hindi nʼyo ba nabasa ang isinulat ni Moises? Noong naroon siya sa may nagliliyab na mababang punongkahoy, sinabi sa kanya ng Dios, ‘Ako ang Dios nila Abraham, Isaac, at Jacob.’ 27 Hindi siya Dios ng mga patay kundi ng mga buhay. Kaya maling-mali kayo!”

Ang Pinakamahalagang Utos(D)

28 May isang tagapagturo ng Kautusan doon na nakikinig ng pagtatalo nila. Napakinggan niyang mahusay ang sagot ni Jesus, kaya lumapit siya at nagtanong din, “Ano po ba ang pinakamahalagang utos?” 29 Sumagot si Jesus, “Ito ang pinakamahalagang utos: ‘Pakinggan ninyo mga taga-Israel! Ang Panginoon na ating Dios ang natatanging Panginoon. 30 Kaya mahalin mo ang Panginoon mong Dios nang buong puso, nang buong kaluluwa, nang buong pag-iisip, at nang buong lakas!’[f] 31 At ang pangalawa ay ito: ‘Mahalin mo ang iyong kapwa tulad ng pagmamahal mo sa iyong sarili.’[g] Wala nang ibang utos na higit pang mahalaga kaysa sa dalawang ito.” 32 Sinabi ng tagapagturo ng Kautusan, “Tama po kayo, Guro! Totoo ang sinabi ninyo na iisa lang ang Dios at wala nang iba. 33 At kailangang mahalin siya nang buong puso, nang buong pag-iisip, at nang buong lakas. At kailangan ding mahalin ang kapwa tulad ng pagmamahal natin sa ating sarili. Higit na mahalaga ito kaysa sa lahat ng uri ng handog na sinusunog at iba pang mga handog.” 34 Nang marinig ni Jesus na may katuturan ang mga sagot nito, sinabi niya rito, “Malapit ka nang mapabilang sa kaharian ng Dios.” Mula noon, wala nang nangahas na magtanong kay Jesus.

Ang Tanong tungkol sa Cristo(E)

35 Nang minsang nangangaral si Jesus sa templo, tinanong niya ang mga tao, “Bakit sinasabi ng mga tagapagturo ng Kautusan na ang Cristo raw ay lahi lang ni David? 36 Samantalang si David na mismo na pinatnubayan ng Banal na Espiritu ang nagsabing,

    ‘Sinabi ng Panginoon sa aking Panginoon,
    Maupo ka sa kanan ko
    hanggang sa mapasuko ko sa iyo ang iyong mga kaaway!’[h]

37 Ngayon, kung tinawag siya ni David na Panginoon, paano siyang naging lahi lang ni David?” Wiling-wili sa pakikinig ang mga tao kay Jesus.

Babala Laban sa mga Tagapagturo ng Kautusan(F)

38 Sinabi pa ni Jesus sa kanyang pagtuturo, “Mag-ingat kayo sa mga tagapagturo ng Kautusan. Mahilig silang mamasyal na nakasuot ng espesyal na damit.[i] At gustong-gusto nilang batiin silaʼt igalang sa mga mataong lugar.[j] 39 Mahilig silang maupo sa mga upuang pandangal sa mga sambahan at mga handaan. 40 Dinadaya nila ang mga biyuda para makuha ang mga ari-arian ng mga ito, at pinagtatakpan nila ang mga ginagawa nila sa pamamagitan ng mahabang pagdarasal! Ang mga taong itoʼy tatanggap ng mas mabigat na parusa.”

Ang Kaloob ng Biyuda(G)

41 Umupo si Jesus malapit sa pinaglalagyan ng mga kaloob doon sa templo at pinagmamasdan ang mga taong naghuhulog ng pera. Maraming mayayamang naghulog ng malalaking halaga. 42 May lumapit doon na isang mahirap na biyuda at naghulog ng dalawang pirasong barya. 43 Tinawag ni Jesus ang mga tagasunod niya at sinabi, “Sinasabi ko sa inyo ang totoo, mas malaki ang ibinigay ng biyudang iyon kaysa sa lahat ng nagbigay. 44 Sapagkat silang lahat ay nagbigay lang ng sumobrang pera nila. Pero ang biyuda ay nagbigay sa kabila ng kanyang kahirapan. Ibinigay niya ang lahat ng kanyang ikinabubuhay.”

Sinabi ni Jesus ang tungkol sa Pagkawasak ng Templo(H)

13 Nang paalis na sina Jesus sa templo, sinabi ng isa sa mga tagasunod niya, “Guro, tingnan nʼyo po ang templo. Kay laki ng mga ginamit na bato at napakaganda ng pagkakagawa.” 2 Sinabi ni Jesus sa kanya, “Ang templong ito na nakikita ninyo ngayon, na gawa sa malalaking bato, ay siguradong magigiba at walang maiiwang magkapatong na bato!”

Mga Paghihirap at Pag-uusig na Darating(I)

3 Habang nakaupo si Jesus sa isang lugar sa Bundok ng mga Olibo na nakaharap sa templo, tinanong siya nang sarilinan nina Pedro, Santiago, Juan at Andres, 4 “Sabihin ninyo sa amin kung kailan mangyayari ang sinabi ninyo? At ano ang mga palatandaan kung malapit nang mangyari ang lahat ng ito?”

5 Kaya sinabi ni Jesus sa kanila, “Mag-ingat kayo at huwag palilinlang kaninuman. 6 Sapagkat marami ang darating at magsasabi na sila ang Cristo,[k] at marami ang ililigaw nila. 7 Kapag nakarinig kayo ng mga digmaan malapit sa inyo, at nakabalitang may digmaan din sa malayo, huwag kayong matakot. Kinakailangang mangyari ang mga iyan, ngunit hindi pa ito ang katapusan. 8 Sapagkat magdidigmaan ang mga bansa at mga kaharian. Lilindol sa ibaʼt ibang lugar at magkakaroon ng taggutom. Ang mga itoʼy pasimula pa lang ng mga paghihirap na darating.

9 “Mag-ingat kayo dahil dadakpin kayo at dadalhin sa hukuman, at hahagupitin kayo sa sambahan ng mga Judio. Iimbestigahan kayo sa harap ng mga gobernador at mga hari dahil sa pagsunod ninyo sa akin. Magiging pagkakataon nʼyo ito upang magpatotoo sa kanila tungkol sa akin. 10 Dapat munang maipangaral ang Magandang Balita sa lahat ng bansa, bago dumating ang katapusan. 11 Kapag dinakip kayo at iniharap sa hukuman, huwag kayong mag-alala kung ano ang sasabihin ninyo. Bastaʼt sabihin ninyo ang ipinapasabi ng Banal na Espiritu sa oras na iyon. Sapagkat hindi kayo ang magsasalita kundi ang Banal na Espiritu sa pamamagitan ninyo. 12 Sa panahong iyon, may mga taong ipagkakanulo ang kanilang kapatid para patayin. Ganoon din ang mga ama sa kanilang mga anak, at ang mga anak sa kanilang mga magulang. 13 Kapopootan kayo ng lahat dahil sa pagsunod ninyo sa akin. Ngunit ang mananatiling tapat hanggang wakas ay maliligtas.”

Ang Kasuklam-suklam na Darating(J)

14 “Makikita ninyo ang kasuklam-suklam na darating na magiging dahilan ng pag-iwan sa templo, at nakatayo ito sa lugar na hindi dapat kalagyan nito.” (Kayong mga bumabasa, unawain ninyo itong mabuti!) “Kapag nangyari na ito, ang mga nasa Judea ay dapat nang tumakas papunta sa kabundukan. 15 Ang nasa labas ng bahay[l] ay huwag nang pumasok para kumuha ng anuman. 16 Ang nasa bukid ay huwag nang umuwi para kumuha ng damit. 17 Kawawa ang mga buntis at ang mga nagpapasuso sa mga araw na iyon dahil mahihirapan silang tumakas. 18 Idalangin ninyong huwag itong mangyari sa panahon ng taglamig. 19 Sapagkat sa panahong iyon, makakaranas ang mga tao ng mga paghihirap na hindi pa nararanasan mula nang likhain ng Dios ang mundo hanggang ngayon, at wala nang mangyayari pang ganoon kahit kailan. 20 Kung hindi paiikliin[m] ng Panginoon ang panahong iyon, walang matitirang buhay. Ngunit alang-alang sa kanyang mga pinili, paiikliin niya ang panahong iyon.

21 “Kapag may nagsabi sa inyo, ‘Narito ang Cristo!’ o ‘Naroon siya!’ huwag kayong maniniwala. 22 Sapagkat lilitaw ang mga di tunay na Cristo at mga huwad na propeta. Magpapakita sila ng mga himala at kababalaghan upang malinlang, kung maaari, pati ang mga pinili ng Dios. 23 Kaya mag-ingat kayo! Binabalaan ko na kayo habang hindi pa nangyayari ang mga ito.”

Ang Pagbabalik ni Jesus sa Mundo(K)

24 “Pagkatapos ng mga araw na iyon ng matinding kahirapan, magdidilim ang araw, hindi na magliliwanag ang buwan, 25 at mahuhulog ang mga bituin mula sa langit. Ang mga bagay[n] sa kalawakan ay mayayanig at mawawala sa kani-kanilang landas. 26 At makikita nila ako na Anak ng Tao na dumarating mula sa mga ulap na taglay ang dakilang kapangyarihan at kaluwalhatian. 27 Ipapadala ko ang aking mga anghel sa lahat ng lugar sa mundo upang tipunin ang aking mga pinili.”

28 “Unawain ninyo ang aral na ito mula sa puno ng igos: Kapag nagkakadahon na ang mga sanga nito, alam ninyong malapit na ang tag-init. 29 Ganoon din naman, kapag nakita ninyong nangyayari na ang mga sinasabi kong ito sa inyo, malalaman ninyong malapit na akong dumating. 30 Sinasabi ko sa inyo ang totoo, matutupad ang lahat ng ito bago mawala ang henerasyong ito.

31 “Ang langit at ang lupa ay maglalaho, ngunit ang mga salita ko ay mananatili magpakailanman.”[o]

Walang Taong Nakakaalam Kung Kailan Babalik si Jesus(M)

32 “Tungkol sa araw o oras ng aking pagbabalik, walang nakakaalam nito, kahit ang mga anghel sa langit o ako mismo na Anak ng Dios. Ang Ama lang ang nakakaalam nito. 33 Kaya mag-ingat kayo at laging magbantay, dahil hindi ninyo alam kung kailan ako darating. 34 Maaari natin itong ihambing sa isang taong papunta sa malayong lugar. Bago siya umalis ng bahay ay binigyan niya ng kanya-kanyang gawain ang bawat alipin at saka binilinan ang guwardya sa pintuan na maging handa sa kanyang pagdating. 35 Kaya maging handa kayo, dahil hindi ninyo alam kung kailan darating ang may-ari ng bahay; maaaring sa hapon o sa hatinggabi, sa madaling-araw o sa umaga. 36 Baka bigla siyang dumating at datnan kayong natutulog. 37 Kaya ang sinasabi ko sa inyo ay sinasabi ko rin sa lahat: Maging handa kayo!”

The Parable of the Tenants(A)

12 Jesus then began to speak to them in parables: “A man planted a vineyard.(B) He put a wall around it, dug a pit for the winepress and built a watchtower. Then he rented the vineyard to some farmers and moved to another place. 2 At harvest time he sent a servant to the tenants to collect from them some of the fruit of the vineyard. 3 But they seized him, beat him and sent him away empty-handed. 4 Then he sent another servant to them; they struck this man on the head and treated him shamefully. 5 He sent still another, and that one they killed. He sent many others; some of them they beat, others they killed.

6 “He had one left to send, a son, whom he loved. He sent him last of all,(C) saying, ‘They will respect my son.’

7 “But the tenants said to one another, ‘This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’ 8 So they took him and killed him, and threw him out of the vineyard.

9 “What then will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and kill those tenants and give the vineyard to others. 10 Haven’t you read this passage of Scripture:

“‘The stone the builders rejected
    has become the cornerstone;(D)
11 the Lord has done this,
    and it is marvelous in our eyes’[a]?”(E)

12 Then the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders looked for a way to arrest him because they knew he had spoken the parable against them. But they were afraid of the crowd;(F) so they left him and went away.(G)

Paying the Imperial Tax to Caesar(H)

13 Later they sent some of the Pharisees and Herodians(I) to Jesus to catch him(J) in his words. 14 They came to him and said, “Teacher, we know that you are a man of integrity. You aren’t swayed by others, because you pay no attention to who they are; but you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it right to pay the imperial tax[b] to Caesar or not? 15 Should we pay or shouldn’t we?”

But Jesus knew their hypocrisy. “Why are you trying to trap me?” he asked. “Bring me a denarius and let me look at it.” 16 They brought the coin, and he asked them, “Whose image is this? And whose inscription?”

“Caesar’s,” they replied.

17 Then Jesus said to them, “Give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.”(K)

And they were amazed at him.

Marriage at the Resurrection(L)

18 Then the Sadducees,(M) who say there is no resurrection,(N) came to him with a question. 19 “Teacher,” they said, “Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, the man must marry the widow and raise up offspring for his brother.(O) 20 Now there were seven brothers. The first one married and died without leaving any children. 21 The second one married the widow, but he also died, leaving no child. It was the same with the third. 22 In fact, none of the seven left any children. Last of all, the woman died too. 23 At the resurrection[c] whose wife will she be, since the seven were married to her?”

24 Jesus replied, “Are you not in error because you do not know the Scriptures(P) or the power of God? 25 When the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.(Q) 26 Now about the dead rising—have you not read in the Book of Moses, in the account of the burning bush, how God said to him, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’[d]?(R) 27 He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. You are badly mistaken!”

The Greatest Commandment(S)

28 One of the teachers of the law(T) came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”

29 “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.[e] 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’[f](U) 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[g](V) There is no commandment greater than these.”

32 “Well said, teacher,” the man replied. “You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him.(W) 33 To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”(X)

34 When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.”(Y) And from then on no one dared ask him any more questions.(Z)

Whose Son Is the Messiah?(AA)(AB)

35 While Jesus was teaching in the temple courts,(AC) he asked, “Why do the teachers of the law say that the Messiah is the son of David?(AD) 36 David himself, speaking by the Holy Spirit,(AE) declared:

“‘The Lord said to my Lord:
    “Sit at my right hand
until I put your enemies
    under your feet.”’[h](AF)

37 David himself calls him ‘Lord.’ How then can he be his son?”

The large crowd(AG) listened to him with delight.

Warning Against the Teachers of the Law

38 As he taught, Jesus said, “Watch out for the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and be greeted with respect in the marketplaces, 39 and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets.(AH) 40 They devour widows’ houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. These men will be punished most severely.”

The Widow’s Offering(AI)

41 Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put(AJ) and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. 42 But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.

43 Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. 44 They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”(AK)

The Destruction of the Temple and Signs of the End Times(AL)

13 As Jesus was leaving the temple, one of his disciples said to him, “Look, Teacher! What massive stones! What magnificent buildings!”

2 “Do you see all these great buildings?” replied Jesus. “Not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.”(AM)

3 As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives(AN) opposite the temple, Peter, James, John(AO) and Andrew asked him privately, 4 “Tell us, when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are all about to be fulfilled?”

5 Jesus said to them: “Watch out that no one deceives you.(AP) 6 Many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am he,’ and will deceive many. 7 When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 8 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and famines. These are the beginning of birth pains.

9 “You must be on your guard. You will be handed over to the local councils and flogged in the synagogues.(AQ) On account of me you will stand before governors and kings as witnesses to them. 10 And the gospel must first be preached to all nations. 11 Whenever you are arrested and brought to trial, do not worry beforehand about what to say. Just say whatever is given you at the time, for it is not you speaking, but the Holy Spirit.(AR)

12 “Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child. Children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death.(AS) 13 Everyone will hate you because of me,(AT) but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.(AU)

14 “When you see ‘the abomination that causes desolation’[i](AV) standing where it[j] does not belong—let the reader understand—then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 15 Let no one on the housetop go down or enter the house to take anything out. 16 Let no one in the field go back to get their cloak. 17 How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers!(AW) 18 Pray that this will not take place in winter, 19 because those will be days of distress unequaled from the beginning, when God created the world,(AX) until now—and never to be equaled again.(AY)

20 “If the Lord had not cut short those days, no one would survive. But for the sake of the elect, whom he has chosen, he has shortened them. 21 At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or, ‘Look, there he is!’ do not believe it.(AZ) 22 For false messiahs and false prophets(BA) will appear and perform signs and wonders(BB) to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 23 So be on your guard;(BC) I have told you everything ahead of time.

24 “But in those days, following that distress,

“‘the sun will be darkened,
    and the moon will not give its light;
25 the stars will fall from the sky,
    and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’[k](BD)

26 “At that time people will see the Son of Man coming in clouds(BE) with great power and glory. 27 And he will send his angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of the heavens.(BF)

28 “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. 29 Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that it[l] is near, right at the door. 30 Truly I tell you, this generation(BG) will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.(BH) 31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.(BI)

The Day and Hour Unknown

32 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.(BJ) 33 Be on guard! Be alert[m]!(BK) You do not know when that time will come. 34 It’s like a man going away: He leaves his house and puts his servants(BL) in charge, each with their assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch.

35 “Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back—whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn. 36 If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping. 37 What I say to you, I say to everyone: ‘Watch!’”(BM)
