13 (A)And you will be hated by all for my name's sake. (B)But the one who endures to the end will be saved.

The Abomination of Desolation

14 “But when you see (C)the abomination of desolation standing where he ought not to be ((D)let the reader understand), then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 15 (E)Let the one who is on (F)the housetop not go down, nor enter his house, to take anything out, 16 and let the one who is in the field not turn back to take his cloak. 17 And (G)alas for women who are pregnant and for those who are nursing infants in those days! 18 Pray that it may not happen in winter. 19 For in those days there will be (H)such (I)tribulation as has not been (J)from the beginning of the creation that (K)God created until now, and never will be. 20 And if the Lord had not cut short the days, no human being would be saved. But for (L)the sake of the elect, whom (M)he chose, he shortened the days. 21 And (N)then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘Look, there he is!’ do not believe it. 22 (O)For false christs and false prophets will arise and (P)perform signs and wonders, (Q)to lead astray, if possible, (R)the elect. 23 But (S)be on guard; (T)I have told you all things beforehand.

The Coming of the Son of Man

24 “But in those days, after (U)that tribulation, (V)the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, 25 and (W)the stars will be falling from heaven, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. 26 And then they will see (X)the Son of Man coming in clouds (Y)with great power and glory. 27 And then (Z)he will send out the angels and (AA)gather (AB)his elect from (AC)the four winds, from (AD)the ends of the earth (AE)to the ends of heaven.

The Lesson of the Fig Tree

28 “From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near. 29 So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that he is near, (AF)at the very gates. 30 (AG)Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place. 31 (AH)Heaven and earth will pass away, but (AI)my words will not pass away.

No One Knows That Day or Hour

32 “But concerning that day or that hour, (AJ)no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, (AK)nor the Son, (AL)but only the Father. 33 (AM)Be on guard, (AN)keep awake.[a] For you do not know when the time will come. 34 (AO)It is like a man (AP)going on a journey, when he leaves home and puts his servants[b] in charge, (AQ)each with his work, and commands (AR)the doorkeeper to stay awake. 35 (AS)Therefore stay awake—for you do not know when the master of the house will come, (AT)in the evening, or (AU)at midnight, or (AV)when the rooster crows,[c] or (AW)in the morning— 36 lest (AX)he come suddenly and (AY)find you asleep. 37 And what I say to you I say to all: (AZ)Stay awake.”

13 Everyone will hate you because of me,(A) but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.(B)

14 “When you see ‘the abomination that causes desolation’[a](C) standing where it[b] does not belong—let the reader understand—then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 15 Let no one on the housetop go down or enter the house to take anything out. 16 Let no one in the field go back to get their cloak. 17 How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers!(D) 18 Pray that this will not take place in winter, 19 because those will be days of distress unequaled from the beginning, when God created the world,(E) until now—and never to be equaled again.(F)

20 “If the Lord had not cut short those days, no one would survive. But for the sake of the elect, whom he has chosen, he has shortened them. 21 At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or, ‘Look, there he is!’ do not believe it.(G) 22 For false messiahs and false prophets(H) will appear and perform signs and wonders(I) to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 23 So be on your guard;(J) I have told you everything ahead of time.

24 “But in those days, following that distress,

“‘the sun will be darkened,
    and the moon will not give its light;
25 the stars will fall from the sky,
and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’[c](K)

26 “At that time people will see the Son of Man coming in clouds(L) with great power and glory. 27 And he will send his angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of the heavens.(M)

28 “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. 29 Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that it[d] is near, right at the door. 30 Truly I tell you, this generation(N) will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.(O) 31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.(P)

The Day and Hour Unknown

32 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.(Q) 33 Be on guard! Be alert[e]!(R) You do not know when that time will come. 34 It’s like a man going away: He leaves his house and puts his servants(S) in charge, each with their assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch.

35 “Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back—whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn. 36 If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping. 37 What I say to you, I say to everyone: ‘Watch!’”(T)
