⁶⁰ Then the high priest stood up before them and asked Jesus, “Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?” ⁶¹ But Jesus remained silent and gave no answer.^(A)

Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?”^(B)

⁶⁷ “If you are the Messiah,” they said, “tell us.”

Jesus answered, “If I tell you, you will not believe me, ⁶⁸ and if I asked you, you would not answer.^(A)

⁸ When Herod saw Jesus, he was greatly pleased, because for a long time he had been wanting to see him.^(A) From what he had heard about him, he hoped to see him perform a sign of some sort. ⁹ He plied him with many questions, but Jesus gave him no answer.^(B)

⁸ When Pilate heard this, he was even more afraid, ⁹ and he went back inside the palace.^(A) “Where do you come from?” he asked Jesus, but Jesus gave him no answer.^(B)
