A Warning against Hypocrisy
12 Meanwhile, when the crowd gathered by the thousands, so that they trampled on one another, he began to speak first to his disciples, “Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees, that is, their hypocrisy. 2 Nothing is covered up that will not be uncovered, and nothing secret that will not become known. 3 Therefore whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered behind closed doors will be proclaimed from the housetops.
Exhortation to Fearless Confession
4 “I tell you, my friends, do not fear those who kill the body, and after that can do nothing more. 5 But I will warn you whom to fear: fear him who, after he has killed, has authority[a] to cast into hell.[b] Yes, I tell you, fear him! 6 Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten in God’s sight. 7 But even the hairs of your head are all counted. Do not be afraid; you are of more value than many sparrows.
8 “And I tell you, everyone who acknowledges me before others, the Son of Man also will acknowledge before the angels of God; 9 but whoever denies me before others will be denied before the angels of God. 10 And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven; but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven. 11 When they bring you before the synagogues, the rulers, and the authorities, do not worry about how[c] you are to defend yourselves or what you are to say;

Allora Gesù cominciò a dire prima di tutto ai suoi discepoli: «Guardatevi dal lievito dei farisei, che è ipocrisia. 2 Ma non c’è niente di nascosto che non sarà svelato, né di segreto che non sarà conosciuto. 3 Perciò tutto quello che avete detto nelle tenebre sarà udito nella luce, e quel che avete detto all’orecchio nelle stanze interne sarà proclamato sui tetti. 4 Ma a voi, che siete miei amici, io dico: non temete quelli che uccidono il corpo, ma che oltre a questo non possono fare di più. 5 Io vi mostrerò chi dovete temere. Temete colui che, dopo aver ucciso, ha il potere di gettare nella geenna. Sì, vi dico, temete lui. 6 Cinque passeri non si vendono per due soldi? Eppure non uno di essi è dimenticato davanti a Dio; 7 anzi, perfino i capelli del vostro capo sono tutti contati. Non temete [dunque]; voi valete più di molti passeri.

2 Es ist aber nichts verdeckt, das nicht aufgedeckt werden wird, und nichts verborgen, das nicht bekannt werden wird.
3 Alles, was ihr im Finstern redet, wird man darum im Licht hören, und was ihr in den Kammern ins Ohr gesprochen habt, wird auf den Dächern verkündigt werden.
4 Ich sage aber euch, meinen Freunden: Fürchtet euch nicht vor denen, die den Leib töten und danach nichts Weiteres tun können.
5 Ich will euch aber zeigen, wen ihr fürchten sollt: Fürchtet den, welcher, nachdem er getötet hat, auch Macht besitzt, in die Hölle zu werfen! Ja, ich sage euch, den fürchtet!
6 Verkauft man nicht fünf Sperlinge um zwei Groschen? Und nicht ein Einziger von ihnen ist vor Gott vergessen.
7 Aber auch die Haare eures Hauptes sind alle gezählt. Darum fürchtet euch nicht! Ihr seid mehr wert als viele Sperlinge.
8 Ich sage euch aber: Jeder, der sich zu mir bekennen wird vor den Menschen, zu dem wird sich auch der Sohn des Menschen bekennen vor den Engeln Gottes;
9 wer mich aber verleugnet hat vor den Menschen, der wird verleugnet werden vor den Engeln Gottes.
10 Und jedem, der ein Wort reden wird gegen den Sohn des Menschen, dem wird vergeben werden; wer aber gegen den Heiligen Geist lästert, dem wird nicht vergeben werden.
11 Wenn sie euch aber vor die Synagogen und vor die Fürsten und Obrigkeiten führen, so sorgt nicht, wie oder womit ihr euch verteidigen oder was ihr sagen sollt;

12 Egyszer több ezren gyűltek össze Jézus körül. Olyan sokan voltak, hogy majdnem letaposták egymást. Jézus ekkor a tanítványaihoz fordult: „Tartsátok távol magatokat a farizeusok kovászától, vagyis attól a képmutatástól, amely rájuk jellemző! 2 Mert minden eltitkolt dolog nyilvánosságra fog kerülni, és minden titok kitudódik! 3 Amit a sötétben mondotok, azt a világosságban fogják hallani. Amit a belső szobákban suttogtatok egymás fülébe, azt a háztetőkről fogják kihirdetni.”

12 Pendant ce temps, des milliers de gens s’étaient rassemblés, au point qu’ils se marchaient sur les pieds les uns les autres. Jésus commença par s’adresser à ses disciples : Gardez-vous, leur dit-il, de ce levain : l’hypocrisie des pharisiens. 2 Car tout ce qui est tenu secret sera dévoilé, et tout ce qui est caché finira par être connu. 3 Ainsi, tout ce que vous aurez dit dans l’obscurité sera entendu ouvertement en plein jour, et tout ce que vous aurez chuchoté dans le creux de l’oreille, derrière des portes bien closes, sera crié du haut des toits en terrasses.
4 Mes chers amis, je vous le dis : ne craignez pas ceux qui peuvent tuer le corps, mais qui n’ont pas le pouvoir de faire davantage. 5 Savez-vous qui vous devez craindre ? Je vais vous le dire : c’est celui qui, après la mort, a le pouvoir de vous jeter en enfer. Oui, je vous l’assure, c’est lui que vous devez craindre.
6 Ne vend-on pas cinq moineaux pour deux sous ? Et pourtant, Dieu prend soin de chacun d’eux. 7 Bien plus : même les cheveux de votre tête sont comptés. N’ayez aucune crainte, car vous avez plus de valeur que toute une volée de moineaux.
8 Je vous l’assure, tous ceux qui se déclareront pour moi devant les hommes, le Fils de l’homme aussi se déclarera pour eux devant les anges de Dieu. 9 Mais celui qui aura prétendu devant les hommes qu’il ne me connaît pas, je ne le reconnaîtrai pas non plus devant les anges de Dieu. 10 Si quelqu’un dit du mal du Fils de l’homme, il lui sera pardonné ; mais pour celui qui aura blasphémé contre l’Esprit Saint il n’y aura pas de pardon.
11 Quand on vous traînera dans les synagogues devant les dirigeants et les autorités, ne vous inquiétez pas au sujet de ce que vous aurez à dire pour votre défense, ni de la manière dont vous la présenterez.
