²⁶ “Then you will say, ‘We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.’

²⁸ As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus continued on as if he were going farther. ²⁹ But they urged him strongly, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay with them.

³⁰ When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it^(A) and began to give it to them. ³¹ Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him,^(B) and he disappeared from their sight. ³² They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us^(C) while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures^(D) to us?”

¹³ About noon, King Agrippa, as I was on the road, I saw a light from heaven, brighter than the sun, blazing around me and my companions. ¹⁴ We all fell to the ground, and I heard a voice^(A) saying to me in Aramaic,^[a](B) ‘Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’

¹⁵ “Then I asked, ‘Who are you, Lord?’

“ ‘I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,’ the Lord replied.
