People’s Division over Jesus

⁴⁰ Some of the people therefore, after they heard these words, were saying, “This truly is ^(A)the Prophet.” ⁴¹ Others were saying, “This is the ^[a]Christ.” But others were saying, “^(B)Surely the ^[b]Christ is not coming from Galilee, is He? ⁴² Has the Scripture not said that the Christ comes from ^(C)the descendants of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?” ⁴³ So ^(D)a dissension occurred in the crowd because of Him. ⁴⁴ And ^(E)some of them wanted to arrest Him, but no one laid hands on Him.

¹⁶ Therefore some of the Pharisees were saying, “This Man is not from God, because He ^(A)does not keep the Sabbath.” But others were saying, “How can a man who is a sinner perform such ^[a](B)signs?” And ^(C)there was dissension among them.

^19 (A)Dissension occurred again among the Jews because of these words. ²⁰ Many of them were saying, “He ^(B)has a demon and ^(C)is insane. Why do you listen to Him?” ²¹ Others were saying, “These are not the words of one who is ^(D)demon-possessed. ^(E)A demon cannot open the eyes of those who are blind, can it?”
