57 As (A)the living Father (B)sent me, and (C)I live because of the Father, so whoever feeds on me, he also will live because of me. 58 (D)This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like the bread[a] the fathers ate and died. Whoever feeds on this bread will live for ever.” 59 Jesus[b] said these things in the synagogue, as he taught (E)at Capernaum.

60 (F)When many of his disciples heard it, they said, “This is a hard saying; who can listen to it?” 61 But Jesus, (G)knowing in himself that his disciples were grumbling about this, said to them, “Do you take offence at this? 62 Then what if you were to see (H)the Son of Man (I)ascending to (J)where he was before? 63 (K)It is the Spirit who gives life; (L)the flesh is no help at all. (M)The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.

57 Just as the living Father sent me(A) and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me. 58 This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your ancestors ate manna and died, but whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.”(B) 59 He said this while teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum.
Many Disciples Desert Jesus
60 On hearing it, many of his disciples(C) said, “This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?”(D)
61 Aware that his disciples were grumbling about this, Jesus said to them, “Does this offend you?(E) 62 Then what if you see the Son of Man(F) ascend to where he was before!(G) 63 The Spirit gives life;(H) the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit[a] and life.
