The Decision to Kill Lazarus

Then a large crowd of the Jews learned he was there. They came not only because of Jesus but also to see Lazarus, the one he had raised from the dead.(A) 10 But the chief priests had decided to kill Lazarus also, 11 because he was the reason many of the Jews were deserting them[a] and believing in Jesus.

The Triumphal Entry

12 The(B) next day, when the large crowd that had come to the festival heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, 13 they took palm branches(C) and went out to meet him. They kept shouting:

“Hosanna!(D)
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord[b](E) —the King of Israel!” (F)

14 Jesus found a young donkey(G) and sat on it, just as it is written:

15 Do not be afraid,(H)
Daughter Zion. Look, your King is coming,
sitting on a donkey’s colt.[c](I)

16 His disciples did not understand these things at first. However, when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about him(J) and that they had done these things to him.

Meanwhile a large crowd of Jews found out that Jesus was there and came, not only because of him but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead.(A) 10 So the chief priests made plans to kill Lazarus as well, 11 for on account of him(B) many of the Jews were going over to Jesus and believing in him.(C)

Jesus Comes to Jerusalem as King(D)

12 The next day the great crowd that had come for the festival heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem. 13 They took palm branches(E) and went out to meet him, shouting,

“Hosanna![a]

“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”[b](F)

“Blessed is the king of Israel!”(G)

14 Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, as it is written:

15 “Do not be afraid, Daughter Zion;
    see, your king is coming,
    seated on a donkey’s colt.”[c](H)

16 At first his disciples did not understand all this.(I) Only after Jesus was glorified(J) did they realize that these things had been written about him and that these things had been done to him.
