²⁰He did not refuse to answer, but he declared: “I am not the Messiah.”^(A)

²¹“What then?” they asked him. “Are you Elijah?”^(B)

“I am not,” he said.

“Are you the Prophet?”^[a]^(C)

“No,” he answered.
