1 耶 和 华 的 话 临 到 毗 土 珥 的 儿 子 约 珥 。
2 老 年 人 哪 ， 当 听 我 的 话 ； 国 中 的 居 民 哪 ， 都 要 侧 耳 而 听 。 在 你 们 的 日 子 ， 或 你 们 列 祖 的 日 子 ， 曾 有 这 样 的 事 麽 ？
3 你 们 要 将 这 事 传 与 子 ， 子 传 与 孙 ， 孙 ， 传 与 後 代 。
4 剪 虫 剩 下 的 ， 蝗 虫 来 吃 ； 蝗 虫 剩 下 的 ， 蝻 子 来 吃 ； 蝻 子 剩 下 的 ， 蚂 蚱 来 吃 。
5 酒 醉 的 人 哪 ， 要 清 醒 哭 泣 ； 好 酒 的 人 哪 ， 都 要 为 甜 酒 哀 号 ， 因 为 从 你 们 的 口 中 断 绝 了 。
6 有 一 队 蝗 虫 （ 原 文 是 民 ） 又 强 盛 又 无 数 ， 侵 犯 我 的 地 ； 他 的 牙 齿 如 狮 子 的 牙 齿 ， 大 牙 如 母 狮 的 大 牙 。
7 他 毁 坏 我 的 葡 萄 树 ， 剥 了 我 无 花 果 树 的 皮 ， 剥 尽 而 丢 弃 ， 使 枝 条 露 白 。
8 我 的 民 哪 ， 你 当 哀 号 ， 像 处 女 腰 束 麻 布 ， 为 幼 年 的 丈 夫 哀 号 。
9 素 祭 和 奠 祭 从 耶 和 华 的 殿 中 断 绝 ； 事 奉 耶 和 华 的 祭 司 都 悲 哀 。
10 田 荒 凉 ， 地 悲 哀 ； 因 为 五 谷 毁 坏 ， 新 酒 乾 竭 ， 油 也 缺 乏 。
11 农 夫 啊 ， 你 们 要 惭 愧 , 修 理 葡 萄 园 的 啊 ， 你 们 要 哀 号 ； 因 为 大 麦 小 麦 与 田 间 的 庄 稼 都 灭 绝 了 。
12 葡 萄 树 枯 乾 ； 无 花 果 树 衰 残 。 石 榴 树 、 棕 树 、 苹 果 树 ， 连 田 野 一 切 的 树 木 也 都 枯 乾 ； 众 人 的 喜 乐 尽 都 消 灭 。
13 祭 司 啊 ， 你 们 当 腰 束 麻 布 痛 哭 ； 伺 候 祭 坛 的 啊 ， 你 们 要 哀 号 ； 事 奉 我 神 的 啊 ， 你 们 要 来 披 上 麻 布 过 夜 ， 因 为 素 祭 和 奠 祭 从 你 们 神 的 殿 中 断 绝 了 。
14 你 们 要 分 定 禁 食 的 日 子 ， 宣 告 严 肃 会 ， 招 聚 长 老 和 国 中 的 一 切 居 民 到 耶 和 华 ─ 你 们 神 的 殿 ， 向 耶 和 华 哀 求 。
15 哀 哉 ! 耶 和 华 的 日 子 临 近 了 。 这 日 来 到 ， 好 像 毁 灭 从 全 能 者 来 到 。
16 粮 食 不 是 在 我 们 眼 前 断 绝 了 吗 ？ 欢 喜 快 乐 不 是 从 我 们 神 的 殿 中 止 息 了 吗 ？
17 谷 种 在 土 块 下 朽 烂 ； 仓 也 荒 凉 ， 廪 也 破 坏 ； 因 为 五 谷 枯 乾 了 。
18 牲 畜 哀 鸣 ； 牛 群 混 乱 ， 因 为 无 草 ； 羊 群 也 受 了 困 苦 。
19 耶 和 华 啊 ， 我 向 你 求 告 ， 因 为 火 烧 灭 旷 野 的 草 场 ； 火 焰 烧 尽 田 野 的 树 木 。
20 田 野 的 走 兽 向 你 发 喘 ； 因 为 溪 水 乾 涸 ， 火 也 烧 灭 旷 野 的 草 场 。
2 你 们 要 在 锡 安 吹 角 ， 在 我 圣 山 吹 出 大 声 。 国 中 的 居 民 都 要 发 颤 ； 因 为 耶 和 华 的 日 子 将 到 ， 已 经 临 近 。
2 那 日 是 黑 暗 、 幽 冥 、 密 云 、 乌 黑 的 日 子 ， 好 像 晨 光 铺 满 山 岭 。 有 一 队 蝗 虫 （ 原 文 是 民 ） 又 大 又 强 ； 从 来 没 有 这 样 的 ， 以 後 直 到 万 代 也 必 没 有 。
3 他 们 前 面 如 火 烧 灭 ， 後 面 如 火 焰 烧 尽 。 未 到 以 前 ， 地 如 伊 甸 园 ； 过 去 以 後 ， 成 了 荒 凉 的 旷 野 ； 没 有 一 样 能 躲 避 他 们 的 。
4 他 们 的 形 状 如 马 ， 奔 跑 如 马 兵 。
5 在 山 顶 蹦 跳 的 响 声 ， 如 车 辆 的 响 声 ， 又 如 火 焰 烧 碎 秸 的 响 声 ， 好 像 强 盛 的 民 摆 阵 预 备 打 仗 。
6 他 们 一 来 ， 众 民 伤 恸 ， 脸 都 变 色 。
7 他 们 如 勇 士 奔 跑 ， 像 战 士 爬 城 ； 各 都 步 行 ， 不 乱 队 伍 。
8 彼 此 并 不 拥 挤 ， 向 前 各 行 其 路 ， 直 闯 兵 器 ， 不 偏 左 右 。
9 他 们 蹦 上 城 ， 蹿 上 墙 ， 爬 上 房 屋 ， 进 入 窗 户 如 同 盗 贼 。
10 他 们 一 来 ， 地 震 天 动 ， 日 月 昏 暗 ， 星 宿 无 光 。
11 耶 和 华 在 他 军 旅 前 发 声 ， 他 的 队 伍 甚 大 ； 成 就 他 命 的 是 强 盛 者 。 因 为 耶 和 华 的 日 子 大 而 可 畏 ， 谁 能 当 得 起 呢 ？
12 耶 和 华 说 ： 虽 然 如 此 ， 你 们 应 当 禁 食 、 哭 泣 、 悲 哀 ， 一 心 归 向 我 。
13 你 们 要 撕 裂 心 肠 ， 不 撕 裂 衣 服 。 归 向 耶 和 华 ─ 你 们 的 神 ； 因 为 他 有 恩 典 ， 有 怜 悯 ， 不 轻 易 发 怒 ， 有 丰 盛 的 慈 爱 ， 并 且 後 悔 不 降 所 说 的 灾 。
14 或 者 他 转 意 後 悔 ， 留 下 馀 福 ， 就 是 留 下 献 给 耶 和 华 ─ 你 们 神 的 素 祭 和 奠 祭 ， 也 未 可 知 。
15 你 们 要 在 锡 安 吹 角 ， 分 定 禁 食 的 日 子 ， 宣 告 严 肃 会 。
16 聚 集 众 民 ， 使 会 众 自 洁 ： 招 聚 老 者 ， 聚 集 孩 童 和 吃 奶 的 ； 使 新 郎 出 离 洞 房 ， 新 妇 出 离 内 室 。
17 事 奉 耶 和 华 的 祭 司 要 在 廊 子 和 祭 坛 中 间 哭 泣 ， 说 ： 耶 和 华 啊 ， 求 你 顾 惜 你 的 百 姓 ， 不 要 使 你 的 产 业 受 羞 辱 ， 列 邦 管 辖 他 们 。 为 何 容 列 国 的 人 说 ： 他 们 的 神 在 哪 里 呢 ？
18 耶 和 华 就 为 自 己 的 地 发 热 心 ， 怜 恤 他 的 百 姓 。
19 耶 和 华 应 允 他 的 百 姓 说 ： 我 必 赐 给 你 们 五 谷 、 新 酒 ， 和 油 ， 使 你 们 饱 足 ； 我 也 不 再 使 你 们 受 列 国 的 羞 辱 ；
20 却 要 使 北 方 来 的 军 队 远 离 你 们 ， 将 他 们 赶 到 乾 旱 荒 废 之 地 ： 前 队 赶 入 东 海 ， 後 队 赶 入 西 海 ； 因 为 他 们 所 行 的 大 恶 （ 原 文 作 事 ） ， 臭 气 上 升 ， 腥 味 腾 空 。
21 地 土 啊 ， 不 要 惧 怕 ； 要 欢 喜 快 乐 ， 因 为 耶 和 华 行 了 大 事 。
22 田 野 的 走 兽 啊 ， 不 要 惧 怕 ； 因 为 ， 旷 野 的 草 发 生 ， 树 木 结 果 ， 无 花 果 树 、 葡 萄 树 也 都 效 力 。
23 锡 安 的 民 哪 ， 你 们 要 快 乐 ， 为 耶 和 华 ─ 你 们 的 神 欢 喜 ； 因 他 赐 给 你 们 合 宜 的 秋 雨 ， 为 你 们 降 下 甘 霖 ， 就 是 秋 雨 、 春 雨 ， 和 先 前 一 样 。
24 禾 场 必 满 了 麦 子 ； 酒 ? 与 油 ? 必 有 新 酒 和 油 盈 溢 。
25 我 打 发 到 你 们 中 间 的 大 军 队 ， 就 是 蝗 虫 、 蝻 子 、 蚂 蚱 、 剪 虫 ， 那 些 年 所 吃 的 ， 我 要 补 还 你 们 。
26 你 们 必 多 吃 而 得 饱 足 就 赞 美 为 你 们 行 奇 妙 事 之 耶 和 华 ─ 你 们 神 的 名 。 我 的 百 姓 必 永 远 不 至 羞 愧 。
27 你 们 必 知 道 我 是 在 以 色 列 中 间 ， 又 知 道 我 是 耶 和 华 ─ 你 们 的 神 ； 在 我 以 外 并 无 别 神 。 我 的 百 姓 必 永 远 不 致 羞 愧 。
28 以 後 ， 我 要 将 我 的 灵 浇 灌 凡 有 血 气 的 。 你 们 的 儿 女 要 说 预 言 ； 你 们 的 老 年 人 要 做 异 梦 ， 少 年 人 要 见 异 象 。
29 在 那 些 日 子 ， 我 要 将 我 的 灵 浇 灌 我 的 仆 人 和 使 女 。
30 在 天 上 地 下 ， 我 要 显 出 奇 事 ， 有 血 ， 有 火 ， 有 烟 柱 。

4 推 罗 、 西 顿 ， 和 非 利 士 四 境 的 人 哪 ， 你 们 与 我 何 干 ？ 你 们 要 报 复 我 麽 ？ 若 报 复 我 ， 我 必 使 报 应 速 速 归 到 你 们 的 头 上 。
5 你 们 既 然 夺 取 我 的 金 银 ， 又 将 我 可 爱 的 宝 物 带 入 你 们 宫 殿 （ 或 译 ： 庙 中 ） ，
6 并 将 犹 大 人 和 耶 路 撒 冷 人 卖 给 希 利 尼 人 （ 原 文 是 雅 完 人 ） ， 使 他 们 远 离 自 己 的 境 界 。
7 我 必 激 动 他 们 离 开 你 们 所 卖 到 之 地 ， 又 必 使 报 应 归 到 你 们 的 头 上 。
8 我 必 将 你 们 的 儿 女 卖 在 犹 大 人 的 手 中 ， 他 们 必 卖 给 远 方 示 巴 国 的 人 。 这 是 耶 和 华 说 的 。
9 当 在 万 民 中 宣 告 说 ： 要 预 备 打 仗 ； 激 动 勇 士 ， 使 一 切 战 士 上 前 来 。
10 要 将 犁 头 打 成 刀 剑 ， 将 镰 刀 打 成 戈 矛 ； 软 弱 的 要 说 ： 我 有 勇 力 。
11 四 围 的 列 国 啊 ， 你 们 要 速 速 地 来 ， 一 同 聚 集 。 耶 和 华 啊 ， 求 你 使 你 的 大 能 者 降 临 。
12 万 民 都 当 兴 起 ， 上 到 约 沙 法 谷 ； 因 为 我 必 坐 在 那 里 ， 审 判 四 围 的 列 国 。
13 开 镰 罢 ！ 因 为 庄 稼 熟 了 ； 践 踏 罢 ！ 因 为 酒 ? 满 了 。 酒 池 盈 溢 ； 他 们 的 罪 恶 甚 大 。

17 你 们 就 知 道 我 是 耶 和 华 ─ 你 们 的 神 ， 且 又 住 在 锡 安 ─ 我 的 圣 山 。 那 时 ， 耶 路 撒 冷 必 成 为 圣 ； 外 邦 人 不 再 从 其 中 经 过 。
18 到 那 日 ， 大 山 要 滴 甜 酒 ； 小 山 要 流 奶 子 ； 犹 大 溪 河 都 有 水 流 。 必 有 泉 源 从 耶 和 华 的 殿 中 流 出 来 ， 滋 润 什 亭 谷 。

1 以下是耶和华对毗土珥的儿子约珥所说的话。
严重的蝗灾
2 长老们啊，请听我说！
地上的所有居民啊，要留心听！
在你们或你们祖先的时代可曾发生过这样的事？
3 要把这事告诉你们的子子孙孙，
传到世世代代！
4 蝗虫吃剩的，蝻子来吃；
蝻子吃剩的，蚱蜢来吃；
蚱蜢吃剩的，蚂蚱来吃[a]。
5 醉汉啊，醒过来哭泣吧！
贪杯的人啊，哀号吧！
你们再无美酒可饮了。
6 有一群凶猛的蝗虫侵犯我的国土，
它们不计其数，
有雄狮的獠牙和母狮的利齿。
7 它们毁坏我的葡萄树和无花果树，
剥光树皮，
只留下光秃的树枝。
11 农夫啊，你们要忧伤！
照料葡萄园的人啊，
你们要哀号！
因为田间的大麦和小麦全毁了。
12 葡萄树枯死，
无花果树凋残，
石榴树、棕树、苹果树等田野的一切树木枯干。
人间的欢乐消逝了。
13 祭司啊，穿着丧服痛哭吧；
在祭坛前事奉的人啊，要哀号；
我上帝的仆人啊，要披上麻衣过夜；
因为再无素祭和奠祭献到你们上帝的殿中了。
14 你们要定一个禁食的日子，
举行庄严的聚会，
召集全国的长老和人民，
到你们的上帝耶和华的殿中，

15 太可怕了！耶和华的日子近了，
那是全能者施行毁灭的日子。
16 我们的粮食断绝了，
我们上帝殿中的欢乐消失了。
17 种子在土里腐烂，
五谷干死，仓库荒废，
谷仓被拆毁。
18 牲畜哀鸣，
牛群因找不到草场而四处乱窜，
羊群也受苦。
19 耶和华啊，我向你呼求，
因为火焰吞灭了旷野的草场，
烈火烧光了田野的树木。
20 田野的走兽向你呼求，
因为溪水已经枯干，
火也烧尽了旷野的草场。
耶和华审判的日子
2 你们要在锡安吹响号角，
在我的圣山上发出警讯，
地上的居民都要战抖，
因为耶和华的日子将要来临，
已经近了。
2 那将是乌云密布、
天昏地暗的日子。
来了一支空前绝后、强盛无比的蝗虫大军，
它们像曙光一样布满山头。
3 它们的前队如火燎原，
后队如熊熊烈焰。
它们未到以前，
大地美得像伊甸园；
它们过去之后，
大地变成一片荒场。
地上的一切都逃不过这一场浩劫。
4 它们的形状像马，
快速奔驰如战马，
5 在山岭上跳跃奔腾，
如隆隆战车，
好像烈火吞噬干草的声音，
又如大军摆开阵式准备打仗。
6 它们一来，百姓就惊慌失措，
面如死灰。
7 它们快速奔跑像勇士，
攀登城墙如战士，
有条不紊地前进。
8 队伍整齐，各行其道，
势如破竹，无坚不摧。
9 它们冲向城邑，蹿上城墙，
爬进房屋，
如盗贼般破窗而入。
10 所到之处，
天摇地动，
日月昏暗，
星辰无光。
11 耶和华向祂的军队发号施令，
祂的队伍不计其数，
执行祂命令的是一支劲旅。
耶和华的日子伟大而可畏，
谁能承受得住呢？
呼吁人民悔改
12 耶和华说：
“现在，你们要禁食、哭泣、哀号，
全心回转归向我。”
13 你们要撕心般地悔改，
而不是撕裂衣服。
归向你们的上帝耶和华吧，
因为祂有恩典和怜悯，
不轻易发怒，
有无限的慈爱，
不忍心降灾祸。
14 谁知道呢？
或许祂转念心生怜悯，
给你们留下祝福，
使你们可以再次向你们的上帝耶和华献上素祭和奠祭。
15 要在锡安山吹响号角，
宣布禁食的日子，
举行庄严的聚会。
16 要招聚老人，聚集孩童，
包括吃奶的婴儿；
要吩咐新郎出洞房、
新娘出内室；
要召集全体人民，
让他们洁净自己。
17 让事奉耶和华的祭司站在圣殿门廊和祭坛中间，
哭泣恳求说：
“耶和华啊，
求你顾惜你的子民，
不要让外族人侮辱、
讥笑你的产业说，
‘你们的上帝在哪里呢？’”
再赐祝福
18 耶和华为自己的土地发热心，
祂怜悯自己的子民。
19 祂回应他们说：
“我必赐五谷、新酒和油给你们，
使你们饱足，
不再让你们受列国的羞辱。
20 我要赶出从北方来的军队，
把他们驱逐到一个干旱荒芜的地方，
把他们的领头部队赶进死海，
再把他们的殿后部队赶进地中海，
那时他们必臭气冲天、
腥味腾空，
因为耶和华为你们行了大事。”
21 大地啊，不用惧怕，
倒要欢喜快乐；
因为耶和华行了大事。
22 田野的走兽啊，不要惧怕，
因为绿草铺遍了原野，
树木也结满了果子，
无花果树和葡萄树都结实累累。
23 锡安的人民啊，
你们应当欢喜快乐，
从你们的上帝耶和华那里得到喜乐。
因为祂按时[d]降下甘霖，
像从前一样赐给你们秋雨、
春雨。
24 麦场必堆满五谷，
酒槽里的酒和油槽里的油必满溢。
25 “我派蝻虫、蚱蜢、蚂蚱
和蝗虫大军在那些年所吃掉的，
我要补偿你们。
26 你们必吃得饱足，
并赞美你们的上帝耶和华的名，
因祂为你们行了奇事。
我的子民永远不会再蒙羞。
27 这样，你们就知道我在以色列，
知道我是你们的上帝耶和华，
除我以外别无他神。
我的子民永远不会再蒙羞。
28 “以后，我要将我的灵浇灌所有的人。
你们的儿女要说预言，
老人要做异梦，
青年要见异象。
29 在那些日子，
我要将我的灵浇灌我的仆人和婢女。

上帝要审判万国
3 “到那日，在我复兴犹大和耶路撒冷的时候， 2 我要聚集万国，带他们下到约沙法[e]谷，在那里审判他们，因为他们把我的子民，就是我的产业以色列，分散到各国，并瓜分我的土地。 3 他们抽签分了我的子民，将男童换妓女，卖女童买酒喝。
4 “泰尔、西顿和非利士境内所有的人啊，你们为什么这样对我？你们要报复我吗？如果你们是报复我，我必速速使你们遭报应。 5 你们夺去我的金银，抢走我的珍宝，拿去放在你们的庙中， 6 并把犹大和耶路撒冷的居民卖给希腊人，使他们远离家乡。 7 然而，他们被卖到哪里，我要从哪里把他们带回来，并要使你们得到报应， 8 我要把你们的儿女卖给犹大人，犹大人必把他们卖给远方的示巴人。这是耶和华说的。”
9 你们去向万国宣告：
“要召集勇士，征调军队，
前去打仗！
10 要将犁头打成刀剑，
把镰刀铸成矛头，
软弱的人也要做勇士！
11 四围的列国啊，
你们快快聚集到那里吧！”
耶和华啊，
求你差遣大能的勇士降临。
12 “万国都要起来，
上到约沙法谷受审判，
因为我要坐在那里审判他们。
13 开镰吧，因为庄稼熟了；
踩踏吧，因为榨酒池的葡萄满了。
他们恶贯满盈，如酒池满溢。”
14 千千万万的人聚集在审判谷，
因为耶和华的日子要临到那里。
15 日月昏暗，
星辰无光。
16 耶和华从锡安发出怒吼，
从耶路撒冷发出雷声，
天地为之震动。
但耶和华却是祂子民的避难所，
是以色列人的堡垒。
17 “这样，你们就知道我是你们的上帝耶和华，
我住在锡安——我的圣山上。
耶路撒冷必成为圣地，
外族人必不再侵犯它。
18 “到那日，群山要滴下甜酒，
丘陵要流出乳汁。
犹大的溪涧碧水常流，
必有清泉从耶和华的殿中流出，
浇灌什亭谷。
19 埃及必一片荒凉，

Has anything like this ever happened in your days

3 Tell it to your children,(G)
and let your children tell it to their children,

4 What the locust(I) swarm has left

5 Wake up, you drunkards, and weep!
Wail, all you drinkers of wine;(L)
wail because of the new wine,
for it has been snatched(M) from your lips.
6 A nation has invaded my land,
a mighty army without number;(N)
it has the teeth(O) of a lion,
the fangs of a lioness.
7 It has laid waste(P) my vines
and ruined my fig trees.(Q)
It has stripped off their bark
and thrown it away,
leaving their branches white.
8 Mourn like a virgin in sackcloth(R)
grieving for the betrothed of her youth.
9 Grain offerings and drink offerings(S)
are cut off from the house of the Lord.
The priests are in mourning,(T)
those who minister before the Lord.
10 The fields are ruined,
the ground is dried up;(U)
the grain is destroyed,
the new wine(V) is dried up,
the olive oil fails.(W)
11 Despair, you farmers,(X)
wail, you vine growers;
grieve for the wheat and the barley,(Y)
because the harvest of the field is destroyed.(Z)
12 The vine is dried up
and the fig tree is withered;(AA)
the pomegranate,(AB) the palm and the apple[b] tree—
all the trees of the field—are dried up.(AC)
Surely the people’s joy
is withered away.
A Call to Lamentation
13 Put on sackcloth,(AD) you priests, and mourn;
wail, you who minister(AE) before the altar.
Come, spend the night in sackcloth,
you who minister before my God;
for the grain offerings and drink offerings(AF)
are withheld from the house of your God.
14 Declare a holy fast;(AG)
call a sacred assembly.
Summon the elders
and all who live in the land(AH)
to the house of the Lord your God,
and cry out(AI) to the Lord.(AJ)
15 Alas for that(AK) day!
For the day of the Lord(AL) is near;
it will come like destruction from the Almighty.[c](AM)
16 Has not the food been cut off(AN)
before our very eyes—
joy and gladness(AO)
from the house of our God?(AP)
17 The seeds are shriveled
beneath the clods.[d](AQ)
The storehouses are in ruins,
the granaries have been broken down,
for the grain has dried up.
18 How the cattle moan!
The herds mill about
because they have no pasture;(AR)
even the flocks of sheep are suffering.(AS)
19 To you, Lord, I call,(AT)
for fire(AU) has devoured the pastures(AV) in the wilderness
and flames have burned up all the trees of the field.
20 Even the wild animals pant for you;(AW)
the streams of water have dried up(AX)
and fire has devoured the pastures(AY) in the wilderness.
An Army of Locusts
Let all who live in the land tremble,
for the day of the Lord(BC) is coming.
It is close at hand(BD)—
2 a day of darkness(BE) and gloom,(BF)
a day of clouds(BG) and blackness.(BH)
Like dawn spreading across the mountains
a large and mighty army(BI) comes,
such as never was in ancient times(BJ)
nor ever will be in ages to come.
3 Before them fire(BK) devours,
behind them a flame blazes.
Before them the land is like the garden of Eden,(BL)
behind them, a desert waste(BM)—
nothing escapes them.
4 They have the appearance of horses;(BN)
they gallop along like cavalry.
5 With a noise like that of chariots(BO)
they leap over the mountaintops,
like a crackling fire(BP) consuming stubble,
like a mighty army drawn up for battle.
6 At the sight of them, nations are in anguish;(BQ)
every face turns pale.(BR)
7 They charge like warriors;(BS)
they scale walls like soldiers.
They all march in line,(BT)
not swerving(BU) from their course.
8 They do not jostle each other;
each marches straight ahead.
They plunge through defenses
without breaking ranks.
9 They rush upon the city;
they run along the wall.
They climb into the houses;(BV)
like thieves they enter through the windows.(BW)
10 Before them the earth shakes,(BX)
the heavens tremble,(BY)
the sun and moon are darkened,(BZ)
and the stars no longer shine.(CA)
11 The Lord(CB) thunders(CC)
at the head of his army;(CD)
his forces are beyond number,
and mighty is the army that obeys his command.
The day of the Lord is great;(CE)
it is dreadful.
Who can endure it?(CF)
Rend Your Heart
12 “Even now,” declares the Lord,
“return(CG) to me with all your heart,(CH)
with fasting and weeping and mourning.”
13 Rend your heart(CI)
and not your garments.(CJ)
Return(CK) to the Lord your God,
for he is gracious and compassionate,(CL)
slow to anger and abounding in love,(CM)
and he relents from sending calamity.(CN)
14 Who knows? He may turn(CO) and relent(CP)
and leave behind a blessing(CQ)—
grain offerings and drink offerings(CR)
for the Lord your God.
15 Blow the trumpet(CS) in Zion,(CT)
declare a holy fast,(CU)
call a sacred assembly.(CV)
16 Gather the people,
consecrate(CW) the assembly;
bring together the elders,(CX)
gather the children,
those nursing at the breast.
Let the bridegroom(CY) leave his room
and the bride her chamber.
17 Let the priests, who minister(CZ) before the Lord,
weep(DA) between the portico and the altar.(DB)
Let them say, “Spare your people, Lord.
Do not make your inheritance an object of scorn,(DC)
a byword(DD) among the nations.
Why should they say among the peoples,
‘Where is their God?(DE)’”
The Lord’s Answer
19 The Lord replied[e] to them:
“I am sending you grain, new wine(DH) and olive oil,(DI)
enough to satisfy you fully;(DJ)
never again will I make you
an object of scorn(DK) to the nations.
20 “I will drive the northern horde(DL) far from you,
pushing it into a parched and barren land;
its eastern ranks will drown in the Dead Sea
and its western ranks in the Mediterranean Sea.
And its stench(DM) will go up;
its smell will rise.”
Surely he has done great things!
21 Do not be afraid,(DN) land of Judah;
be glad and rejoice.(DO)
Surely the Lord has done great things!(DP)
22 Do not be afraid, you wild animals,
for the pastures in the wilderness are becoming green.(DQ)
The trees are bearing their fruit;
the fig tree(DR) and the vine(DS) yield their riches.(DT)
23 Be glad, people of Zion,
rejoice(DU) in the Lord your God,
for he has given you the autumn rains
because he is faithful.(DV)
He sends you abundant showers,(DW)
both autumn(DX) and spring rains,(DY) as before.
24 The threshing floors will be filled with grain;
the vats will overflow(DZ) with new wine(EA) and oil.
25 “I will repay you for the years the locusts(EB) have eaten(EC)—
the great locust and the young locust,
the other locusts and the locust swarm[f]—
my great army(ED) that I sent among you.
26 You will have plenty to eat, until you are full,(EE)
and you will praise(EF) the name of the Lord your God,
who has worked wonders(EG) for you;
never again will my people be shamed.(EH)
27 Then you will know(EI) that I am in Israel,
that I am the Lord(EJ) your God,
and that there is no other;
never again will my people be shamed.(EK)
The Day of the Lord
28 “And afterward,
I will pour out my Spirit(EL) on all people.(EM)
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,(EN)
your old men will dream dreams,(EO)
your young men will see visions.
29 Even on my servants,(EP) both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days.(EQ)
30 I will show wonders in the heavens(ER)
and on the earth,(ES)
blood and fire and billows of smoke.
31 The sun will be turned to darkness(ET)
and the moon to blood
before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.(EU)
32 And everyone who calls
on the name of the Lord(EV) will be saved;(EW)
for on Mount Zion(EX) and in Jerusalem
there will be deliverance,(EY)
as the Lord has said,
even among the survivors(EZ)
whom the Lord calls.[g](FA)
The Nations Judged
3 [h]“In those days and at that time,
when I restore the fortunes(FB) of Judah(FC) and Jerusalem,
2 I will gather(FD) all nations
and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat.[i](FE)
There I will put them on trial(FF)
for what they did to my inheritance, my people Israel,
because they scattered(FG) my people among the nations
and divided up my land.
3 They cast lots(FH) for my people
and traded boys for prostitutes;
they sold girls for wine(FI) to drink.
4 “Now what have you against me, Tyre and Sidon(FJ) and all you regions of Philistia?(FK) Are you repaying me for something I have done? If you are paying me back, I will swiftly and speedily return on your own heads what you have done.(FL) 5 For you took my silver and my gold and carried off my finest treasures to your temples.[j](FM) 6 You sold the people of Judah and Jerusalem to the Greeks,(FN) that you might send them far from their homeland.
7 “See, I am going to rouse them out of the places to which you sold them,(FO) and I will return(FP) on your own heads what you have done. 8 I will sell your sons(FQ) and daughters to the people of Judah,(FR) and they will sell them to the Sabeans,(FS) a nation far away.” The Lord has spoken.(FT)
9 Proclaim this among the nations:
Prepare for war!(FU)
Rouse the warriors!(FV)
Let all the fighting men draw near and attack.
10 Beat your plowshares into swords
and your pruning hooks(FW) into spears.(FX)
Let the weakling(FY) say,
“I am strong!”(FZ)
11 Come quickly, all you nations from every side,
and assemble(GA) there.
Bring down your warriors,(GB) Lord!
12 “Let the nations be roused;
let them advance into the Valley of Jehoshaphat,(GC)
for there I will sit
to judge(GD) all the nations on every side.
13 Swing the sickle,(GE)
for the harvest(GF) is ripe.
Come, trample the grapes,(GG)
for the winepress(GH) is full
and the vats overflow—
so great is their wickedness!”
14 Multitudes,(GI) multitudes
in the valley(GJ) of decision!
For the day of the Lord(GK) is near
in the valley of decision.(GL)
15 The sun and moon will be darkened,
and the stars no longer shine.(GM)
16 The Lord will roar(GN) from Zion
and thunder from Jerusalem;(GO)
the earth and the heavens will tremble.(GP)
But the Lord will be a refuge(GQ) for his people,
a stronghold(GR) for the people of Israel.
Blessings for God’s People
17 “Then you will know(GS) that I, the Lord your God,(GT)
dwell in Zion,(GU) my holy hill.(GV)
Jerusalem will be holy;(GW)
never again will foreigners invade her.(GX)
18 “In that day the mountains will drip new wine,(GY)
and the hills will flow with milk;(GZ)
all the ravines of Judah will run with water.(HA)
A fountain will flow out of the Lord’s house(HB)
and will water the valley of acacias.[k](HC)
19 But Egypt(HD) will be desolate,
Edom(HE) a desert waste,
because of violence(HF) done to the people of Judah,
in whose land they shed innocent blood.
20 Judah will be inhabited forever(HG)
and Jerusalem through all generations.
21 Shall I leave their innocent blood unavenged?(HH)
No, I will not.(HI)”
The Lord dwells in Zion!(HJ)
