Waarschuwing tegen een terugkeer naar Egypte

42 Toen gingen alle legerofficieren, onder wie Johanan en Azarja, samen met de rest van het volk naar Jeremia en zeiden: 2 ‘Bid alstublieft voor ons tot de Here, uw God, want zoals u weet zijn er van ons maar weinig hier overgebleven. 3 Smeek de Here, uw God, of Hij ons wil laten zien wat wij moeten doen en waar wij heen moeten gaan.’ 4 ‘Goed,’ antwoordde Jeremia. ‘Ik zal het Hem vragen en u zijn antwoord overbrengen. Ik zal niets voor u achterhouden.’ 5 Zij verzekerden Jeremia met klem: ‘Wij beloven bij de Here dat wij zullen doen wat Hij zegt! 6 Of wij het nu prettig vinden of niet, wij zullen de Here, onze God, tot wie wij ons richten, gehoorzamen, want dan zal het goed met ons gaan.’

7 Tien dagen later kreeg Jeremia het antwoord van de Here. 8,9 Hij riep Johanan, de andere legeraanvoerders en het hele volk bij zich en zei: ‘U stuurde mij naar de Here, de God van Israël, om Hem te vragen naar uw gebed te luisteren. Dit is zijn antwoord: 10 “Blijf in dit land. Als u dat doet, zal Ik u zegenen en u niets in de weg leggen. Want Ik ben van gedachten veranderd over de vele straffen die Ik u moest geven. 11 U hoeft niet langer bang te zijn voor de koning van Babel, want Ik ben bij u om u te redden en uit zijn hand te bevrijden. 12 Ik zal genadig voor u zijn door de koning medelijden te laten krijgen, zodat hij u niet doodt of tot slaaf maakt, maar u naar uw akkers laat terugkeren.” 13,14 Maar als u weigert de Here te gehoorzamen en zegt: “Wij blijven hier niet” en toch naar Egypte wilt gaan waar u veilig denkt te zijn voor oorlog, honger en onrust, 15 is dit het antwoord van de Here, restant van Juda: de Here van de hemelse legers, de God van Israël, zegt: “Als u uw plannen doorzet om naar Egypte te gaan, 16 zullen de oorlog en de hongersnood waarvoor u zo bang bent, u op de voet volgen en zult u daar omkomen. 17 Dat is het lot dat ieder van u die zich in Egypte wil vestigen, te wachten staat. Ja, dan zult u sterven door het zwaard, hongersnood en ziekten. Niemand van u zal eraan kunnen ontsnappen.” 18 Want de Here van de hemelse legers, de God van Israël, zegt: “Net zoals mijn toorn werd uitgegoten over de inwoners van Jeruzalem, zo zal hij ook over u worden uitgegoten als u naar Egypte gaat. U zult worden ontvangen met afkeer en haatgevoelens, u zult worden vervloekt en bespot. En uw vaderland zult u nooit meer terugzien.” 19 Want de Here heeft gezegd: “Restant van Juda, ga niet naar Egypte!” ’

Jeremia besloot met de woorden: ‘Vergeet nooit de waarschuwing die ik u vandaag heb gegeven. 20 Als u gaat, is dat ten koste van uw eigen leven. Want u was niet eerlijk toen u mij vroeg voor u te bidden en zei: “Vertel ons wat God zegt en we zullen het doen!” 21 Vandaag heb ik u precies verteld wat Hij zei, maar u zult niet gehoorzamer zijn dan al die andere keren toen ik door de Here werd gestuurd om u te waarschuwen. 22 Wees er daarom zeker van dat u door het zwaard, de hongersnood en door ziekten zult sterven als u toch besluit naar Egypte te gaan.’

Het volk weigert te gehoorzamen

43 Toen Jeremia deze boodschap van de Here, hun God, aan hen had overgebracht, 2,3 zeiden Azarja, de zoon van Hosaja, Johanan, de zoon van Karéah, en de anderen brutaalweg tegen Jeremia: ‘U liegt! De Here, onze God, heeft u helemaal niet opgedragen ons te zeggen dat wij niet naar Egypte mogen gaan! Baruch, de zoon van Neria, heeft u dat in het oor gefluisterd, zodat wij hier blijven en de Babyloniërs ons kunnen doden of als slaven kunnen wegvoeren naar Babel.’ 4 Johanan, alle verzetsmensen en de rest van het volk weigerden de Here te gehoorzamen door in Juda te blijven. 5 Allen, ook zij die waren teruggekomen uit de buurlanden, gingen onder leiding van Johanan en de andere aanvoerders op weg naar Egypte. 6 De groep bestond verder nog uit mannen, vrouwen en kinderen, de dochters van de koning en al diegenen die Nebuzaradan onder de hoede van Gedalja had achtergelaten. Zij dwongen zelfs Jeremia en Baruch met hen mee te gaan. 7 Ze waren niet gehoorzaam aan de Here, trokken naar Egypte en bereikten de stad Tachpanhes.

8 In Tachpanhes sprak de Here opnieuw tegen Jeremia en zei: 9 ‘Roep de mannen van Juda bijeen en begraaf in hun bijzijn een paar grote stenen onder het wegdek van de toegangsweg naar het paleis van de farao hier in Tachpanhes. 10 Zeg daarna het volgende tegen de mannen van Juda: de Here van de hemelse legers, de God van Israël, zegt: Ik zal koning Nebukadnezar van Babel naar Egypte brengen, want hij is mijn dienaar. Ik zal zijn troon op deze stenen zetten die Ik hier heb verborgen. Hij zal zijn statietapijt er over uitspreiden. 11 Wanneer hij komt, zal hij Egypte verwoesten en hen doden, die Ik daartoe bestemd heb en gevangennemen die Ik eveneens daartoe bestemd heb en velen zullen een gewelddadige dood sterven. 12 Hij zal de tempels van de Egyptische goden in brand steken en de afgodsbeelden als trofeeën mee naar huis nemen. Hij zal Egypte onder de voet lopen alsof het niets is en hijzelf zal het land weer ongedeerd verlaten. 13 Hij zal de obelisken van de zonnetempel in de stad Heliopolis omverhalen en de tempels van de Egyptische goden platbranden.’

Profetie over de Judeeërs in Egypte

44 Hier volgt de boodschap die God Jeremia gaf voor de Judeeërs die in het zuiden en het noorden van Egypte woonden in de steden Migdol, Tachpanhes en Memfis:

2,3 De Here van de hemelse legers, de God van Israël, zegt: ‘U hebt gezien wat Ik deed met Jeruzalem en de steden van Juda. Om hun goddeloosheid zijn zij in de as gelegd, puinhopen, zonder één levende ziel. Mijn toorn keerde zich tegen hen, omdat zij andere goden aanbaden, “goden” die u voorheen niet kende en ook uw voorouders niet. 4 Ik stuurde telkens weer mijn dienaren, de profeten, om steeds weer te protesteren en hen te smeken deze afschuwelijke praktijken die Ik zo haat, niet te doen. 5 Maar zij weigerden te luisteren en wilden niet van hun slechte wegen terugkeren, zij bleven reukwerk verbranden voor deze zogenaamde goden. 6 Daardoor heb Ik mijn brandende woede uitgestort over de steden van Juda en de straten van Jeruzalem die sindsdien een verlaten woestenij zijn.’ 7 En nu vraagt de Here, de God van de hemelse legers, de God van Israël, u: ‘Waarom zoekt u toch uw eigen ondergang? Want niemand van u zal blijven leven: geen man, vrouw of kind, niemand zal er zo in Juda overblijven. 8 Want u wekt mijn toorn op met de afgodsbeelden die u hebt gemaakt en die u hier in Egypte aanbidt. U brandt reukwerk voor hen en dwingt Mij op die manier u volledig te vernietigen en u tot een vloek te maken, tot een mikpunt van spot onder alle volken op aarde. 9 Bent u de goddeloze daden van uw voorouders, de zonden van de koningen en koninginnen van Juda, uw eigen zonden en die van uw vrouwen in Juda en Jeruzalem vergeten? 10 Tot op dit moment heeft niemand berouw getoond, niemand heeft naar Mij willen terugkeren of zich willen houden aan de wetten en voorschriften die Ik u en uw voorouders gegeven heb.’ 11 Daarom zegt de Here van de hemelse legers, de God van Israël: ‘Ik kan u niet meer verdragen en laat het onheil over u komen. Ik zal u allemaal vernietigen! 12 Ik zal dit restant van Juda dat erop stond naar Egypte te gaan, voorgoed opruimen. Het zal hier in Egypte omkomen door het zwaard of de honger, allen zullen sterven, van klein tot groot. Zij zullen worden verwenst en verafschuwd, vervloekt en gehaat. 13 Ik zal hen in Egypte net zo straffen als in Jeruzalem, met het zwaard, honger en ziekten. 14 Op een enkele vluchteling na, zal niemand van hen aan mijn toorn ontsnappen en terugkeren naar Juda, hoe graag ze dat ook willen.’

15 Toen gaven alle aanwezige vrouwen en alle mannen die wisten dat hun vrouwen voor afgoden reukwerk hadden verbrand (het was een grote groep in Zuid-Egypte woonachtige Judeeërs) Jeremia als antwoord: 16 ‘Wij luisteren niet naar uw boodschappen die u namens de Here aan ons geeft! 17 Wij doen wat wij zelf willen. Wij branden reukwerk voor de “koningin van de hemel” en offeren haar net zo vaak als wij zelf willen, net als onze voorouders, koningen en functionarissen altijd hebben gedaan in de steden van Juda en de straten van Jeruzalem. Want in die tijd hadden wij genoeg te eten en ontbrak het ons aan niets. Dat was een gelukkige tijd! 18 Maar sinds wij ophielden met branden van reukwerk voor de “koningin van de hemel” en wij haar niet meer aanbaden, hebben we aan alles gebrek en lijden we onder geweld en honger.’ 19 ‘En,’ voegden de vrouwen daar nog aan toe, ‘dacht u dat wij de “koningin van de hemel” aanbaden, drankoffers voor haar uitgoten en koeken met haar beeltenis erop bakten, zonder dat onze mannen ervan wisten en ons hielpen? Natuurlijk niet!’

20 Toen zei Jeremia tegen alle mannen en vrouwen die hem dit antwoord hadden gegeven: 21 ‘Denkt u dat de Here niet wist dat u en uw vaders, uw koningen en bestuurders en het hele volk reukwerk brandden voor afgoden in de steden van Juda en de straten van Jeruzalem? 22 Omdat Hij deze afschuwelijke dingen niet langer kon aanzien, maakte Hij uw land tot een woestenij, een ongelooflijke puinhoop. Vervloekt, zonder één inwoner, zoals het er nu bij ligt. 23 De reden voor al die rampen die u hebben getroffen, was het feit dat u reukwerk verbrandde, tegen de Here zondigde en weigerde Hem te gehoorzamen.’

24 Jeremia zei verder tegen hen, ook tegen de vrouwen: ‘Luister naar het woord van de Here, alle inwoners van Juda die hier in Egypte zijn! 25 De Here van de hemelse legers, de God van Israël, zegt: “Zowel u als uw echtgenotes hebben gezegd dat u uw verering van de ‘koningin van de hemel’ niet zou opgeven, iets dat u met uw daden al hebt bewezen. Ga uw gang dan maar en doe wat u hebt beloofd en gezworen!” 26 Maar luister naar het woord van de Here, Judeeërs die in Egypte wonen: “Ik zweer bij mijn grote naam,” zegt de Here, “dat het geen effect meer zal hebben als u een eed zweert met de woorden: ‘Zo zeker als de Oppermachtige Here leeft!’ 27 Want Ik zal de wacht over u houden, maar niet met het oog op uw welzijn! Ik zal erop toezien dat het onheil over u komt, u zult worden vernietigd door oorlog en honger, tot ieder van u dood is. 28 Alleen die paar mensen die naar Juda terugkeren, zullen aan de oorlog ontsnappen. Maar iedereen die weigert terug te gaan en vastbesloten is in Egypte te blijven, zal merken wie de waarheid spreekt, Ik of zij! 29 Dit is het teken dat Ik mijn dreigementen tegen u zal waarmaken en u hier zal straffen: 30 Ik zal farao Hofra overgeven in de macht van zijn vijanden die het op zijn leven hebben voorzien, net zoals Ik koning Zedekia van Juda in de macht heb gegeven van koning Nebukadnezar van Babel.” ’

Gods boodschap aan Baruch

45 Dit is de boodschap die Jeremia Baruch gaf in het vierde regeringsjaar van koning Jojakim, de zoon van Josia, nadat Baruch al Gods boodschappen had opgeschreven, zoals Jeremia ze hem dicteerde: 2 ‘Baruch, de Here God van Israël zegt dit tegen u: 3 “U hebt gezegd: ik kan het niet meer aan! Heb ik al geen moeilijkheden genoeg? Nu geeft de Here mij nog meer! Ik ben uitgeput door mijn verdriet en vind nergens rust.

4 Maar vertel Baruch dit: de Here zegt: Ik zal dit volk dat Ik heb opgebouwd, verwoesten. Wat Ik heb geplant, zal Ik uitrukken. 5 Zou u voor uzelf iets bijzonders nastreven? Doe dat niet, want Ik zal een groot onheil over dit hele volk brengen. Maar uw leven zal Ik beschermen, waar u ook heen gaat.” ’

42 Then all the army officers, including Johanan(A) son of Kareah and Jezaniah[a] son of Hoshaiah,(B) and all the people from the least to the greatest(C) approached 2 Jeremiah the prophet and said to him, “Please hear our petition and pray(D) to the Lord your God for this entire remnant.(E) For as you now see, though we were once many, now only a few(F) are left. 3 Pray that the Lord your God will tell us where we should go and what we should do.”(G)

4 “I have heard you,” replied Jeremiah the prophet. “I will certainly pray(H) to the Lord your God as you have requested; I will tell(I) you everything the Lord says and will keep nothing back from you.”(J)

5 Then they said to Jeremiah, “May the Lord be a true(K) and faithful(L) witness(M) against us if we do not act in accordance with everything the Lord your God sends you to tell us. 6 Whether it is favorable or unfavorable, we will obey the Lord our God, to whom we are sending you, so that it will go well(N) with us, for we will obey(O) the Lord our God.”

7 Ten days later the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah. 8 So he called together Johanan son of Kareah and all the army officers(P) who were with him and all the people from the least to the greatest.(Q) 9 He said to them, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, to whom you sent me to present your petition,(R) says:(S) 10 ‘If you stay in this land,(T) I will build(U) you up and not tear you down; I will plant(V) you and not uproot you,(W) for I have relented concerning the disaster I have inflicted on you.(X) 11 Do not be afraid of the king of Babylon,(Y) whom you now fear.(Z) Do not be afraid of him, declares the Lord, for I am with you and will save(AA) you and deliver you from his hands.(AB) 12 I will show you compassion(AC) so that he will have compassion on you and restore you to your land.’(AD)

13 “However, if you say, ‘We will not stay in this land,’ and so disobey(AE) the Lord your God, 14 and if you say, ‘No, we will go and live in Egypt,(AF) where we will not see war or hear the trumpet(AG) or be hungry for bread,’(AH) 15 then hear the word of the Lord,(AI) you remnant of Judah. This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: ‘If you are determined to go to Egypt and you do go to settle there, 16 then the sword(AJ) you fear(AK) will overtake you there, and the famine(AL) you dread will follow you into Egypt, and there you will die.(AM) 17 Indeed, all who are determined to go to Egypt to settle there will die by the sword, famine and plague;(AN) not one of them will survive or escape the disaster I will bring on them.’ 18 This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: ‘As my anger and wrath(AO) have been poured out on those who lived in Jerusalem,(AP) so will my wrath be poured out on you when you go to Egypt. You will be a curse[b](AQ) and an object of horror,(AR) a curse[c] and an object of reproach;(AS) you will never see this place again.’(AT)

19 “Remnant(AU) of Judah, the Lord has told you, ‘Do not go to Egypt.’(AV) Be sure of this: I warn you today 20 that you made a fatal mistake when you sent me to the Lord your God and said, ‘Pray to the Lord our God for us; tell us everything he says and we will do it.’(AW) 21 I have told you today, but you still have not obeyed the Lord your God in all he sent me to tell you.(AX) 22 So now, be sure of this: You will die by the sword, famine(AY) and plague(AZ) in the place where you want to go to settle.”(BA)

43 When Jeremiah had finished telling the people all the words of the Lord their God—everything the Lord had sent him to tell them(BB)— 2 Azariah son of Hoshaiah(BC) and Johanan(BD) son of Kareah and all the arrogant(BE) men said to Jeremiah, “You are lying!(BF) The Lord our God has not sent you to say, ‘You must not go to Egypt to settle there.’(BG) 3 But Baruch(BH) son of Neriah is inciting you against us to hand us over to the Babylonians,[d] so they may kill us or carry us into exile to Babylon.”(BI)

4 So Johanan son of Kareah and all the army officers and all the people(BJ) disobeyed the Lord’s command(BK) to stay in the land of Judah.(BL) 5 Instead, Johanan son of Kareah and all the army officers led away all the remnant of Judah who had come back to live in the land of Judah from all the nations where they had been scattered.(BM) 6 They also led away all those whom Nebuzaradan commander of the imperial guard had left with Gedaliah son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan—the men, the women,(BN) the children and the king’s daughters. And they took Jeremiah the prophet and Baruch(BO) son of Neriah along with them. 7 So they entered Egypt(BP) in disobedience to the Lord and went as far as Tahpanhes.(BQ)

8 In Tahpanhes(BR) the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah: 9 “While the Jews are watching, take some large stones(BS) with you and bury them in clay in the brick(BT) pavement at the entrance to Pharaoh’s palace(BU) in Tahpanhes. 10 Then say to them, ‘This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: I will send for my servant(BV) Nebuchadnezzar(BW) king of Babylon, and I will set his throne(BX) over these stones I have buried here; he will spread his royal canopy(BY) above them. 11 He will come and attack Egypt,(BZ) bringing death(CA) to those destined(CB) for death, captivity to those destined for captivity,(CC) and the sword to those destined for the sword.(CD) 12 He will set fire(CE) to the temples(CF) of the gods(CG) of Egypt; he will burn their temples and take their gods captive.(CH) As a shepherd picks(CI) his garment clean of lice, so he will pick Egypt clean and depart. 13 There in the temple of the sun[e](CJ) in Egypt he will demolish the sacred pillars(CK) and will burn down the temples of the gods of Egypt.’”

Disaster Because of Idolatry

44 This word came to Jeremiah concerning all the Jews living in Lower Egypt(CL)—in Migdol,(CM) Tahpanhes(CN) and Memphis(CO)—and in Upper Egypt:(CP) 2 “This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: You saw the great disaster(CQ) I brought on Jerusalem and on all the towns of Judah.(CR) Today they lie deserted and in ruins(CS) 3 because of the evil(CT) they have done. They aroused my anger(CU) by burning incense(CV) to and worshiping other gods(CW) that neither they nor you nor your ancestors(CX) ever knew. 4 Again and again(CY) I sent my servants the prophets,(CZ) who said, ‘Do not do this detestable(DA) thing that I hate!’ 5 But they did not listen or pay attention;(DB) they did not turn from their wickedness(DC) or stop burning incense(DD) to other gods.(DE) 6 Therefore, my fierce anger was poured out;(DF) it raged against the towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem and made them the desolate ruins(DG) they are today.

7 “Now this is what the Lord God Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Why bring such great disaster(DH) on yourselves by cutting off from Judah the men and women,(DI) the children and infants, and so leave yourselves without a remnant?(DJ) 8 Why arouse my anger with what your hands have made,(DK) burning incense(DL) to other gods in Egypt,(DM) where you have come to live?(DN) You will destroy yourselves and make yourselves a curse[f] and an object of reproach(DO) among all the nations on earth. 9 Have you forgotten the wickedness committed by your ancestors(DP) and by the kings(DQ) and queens(DR) of Judah and the wickedness committed by you and your wives(DS) in the land of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem?(DT) 10 To this day they have not humbled(DU) themselves or shown reverence,(DV) nor have they followed my law(DW) and the decrees(DX) I set before you and your ancestors.(DY)

11 “Therefore this is what the Lord Almighty,(DZ) the God of Israel, says: I am determined to bring disaster(EA) on you and to destroy all Judah. 12 I will take away the remnant(EB) of Judah who were determined to go to Egypt to settle there. They will all perish in Egypt; they will fall by the sword or die from famine. From the least to the greatest,(EC) they will die by sword or famine.(ED) They will become a curse and an object of horror, a curse and an object of reproach.(EE) 13 I will punish(EF) those who live in Egypt with the sword,(EG) famine and plague,(EH) as I punished Jerusalem. 14 None of the remnant of Judah who have gone to live in Egypt will escape or survive to return to the land of Judah, to which they long to return and live; none will return except a few fugitives.”(EI)

15 Then all the men who knew that their wives(EJ) were burning incense(EK) to other gods, along with all the women(EL) who were present—a large assembly—and all the people living in Lower and Upper Egypt,(EM) said to Jeremiah, 16 “We will not listen(EN) to the message you have spoken to us in the name of the Lord!(EO) 17 We will certainly do everything we said we would:(EP) We will burn incense(EQ) to the Queen of Heaven(ER) and will pour out drink offerings to her just as we and our ancestors, our kings and our officials(ES) did in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem.(ET) At that time we had plenty of food(EU) and were well off and suffered no harm.(EV) 18 But ever since we stopped burning incense to the Queen of Heaven and pouring out drink offerings(EW) to her, we have had nothing and have been perishing by sword and famine.(EX)”

19 The women added, “When we burned incense(EY) to the Queen of Heaven(EZ) and poured out drink offerings to her, did not our husbands(FA) know that we were making cakes(FB) impressed with her image(FC) and pouring out drink offerings to her?”

20 Then Jeremiah said to all the people, both men and women, who were answering him, 21 “Did not the Lord remember(FD) and call to mind the incense(FE) burned in the towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem(FF) by you and your ancestors,(FG) your kings and your officials and the people of the land?(FH) 22 When the Lord could no longer endure(FI) your wicked actions and the detestable things you did, your land became a curse(FJ) and a desolate waste(FK) without inhabitants, as it is today.(FL) 23 Because you have burned incense and have sinned against the Lord and have not obeyed him or followed(FM) his law or his decrees(FN) or his stipulations, this disaster(FO) has come upon you, as you now see.”(FP)

24 Then Jeremiah said to all the people, including the women,(FQ) “Hear the word of the Lord, all you people of Judah in Egypt.(FR) 25 This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: You and your wives(FS) have done what you said you would do when you promised, ‘We will certainly carry out the vows we made to burn incense and pour out drink offerings to the Queen of Heaven.’(FT)

“Go ahead then, do what you promised! Keep your vows!(FU) 26 But hear the word of the Lord, all you Jews living in Egypt:(FV) ‘I swear(FW) by my great name,’ says the Lord, ‘that no one from Judah living anywhere in Egypt will ever again invoke my name or swear, “As surely as the Sovereign(FX) Lord lives.”(FY) 27 For I am watching(FZ) over them for harm,(GA) not for good; the Jews in Egypt will perish(GB) by sword and famine(GC) until they are all destroyed.(GD) 28 Those who escape the sword(GE) and return to the land of Judah from Egypt will be very few.(GF) Then the whole remnant(GG) of Judah who came to live in Egypt will know whose word will stand(GH)—mine or theirs.(GI)

29 “‘This will be the sign(GJ) to you that I will punish(GK) you in this place,’ declares the Lord, ‘so that you will know that my threats of harm against you will surely stand.’(GL) 30 This is what the Lord says: ‘I am going to deliver Pharaoh(GM) Hophra king of Egypt into the hands of his enemies who want to kill him, just as I gave Zedekiah(GN) king of Judah into the hands of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, the enemy who wanted to kill him.’”(GO)

A Message to Baruch

45 When Baruch(GP) son of Neriah(GQ) wrote on a scroll(GR) the words Jeremiah the prophet dictated in the fourth year of Jehoiakim(GS) son of Josiah king of Judah, Jeremiah said this to Baruch: 2 “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says to you, Baruch: 3 You said, ‘Woe(GT) to me! The Lord has added sorrow(GU) to my pain;(GV) I am worn out with groaning(GW) and find no rest.’(GX) 4 But the Lord has told me to say to you, ‘This is what the Lord says: I will overthrow what I have built and uproot(GY) what I have planted,(GZ) throughout the earth.(HA) 5 Should you then seek great(HB) things for yourself? Do not seek them.(HC) For I will bring disaster(HD) on all people,(HE) declares the Lord, but wherever you go I will let you escape(HF) with your life.’”(HG)
