James 2:18-26
New American Standard Bible
18 (A)But someone [a]may well say, “You have faith and I have works; show me your (B)faith without the works, and I will (C)show you my faith (D)by my works.” 19 You believe that [b](E)God is one. (F)You do well; (G)the demons also believe, and shudder. 20 But are you willing to acknowledge, (H)you foolish person, that (I)faith without works is useless? 21 (J)Was our father Abraham not justified by works when he offered up his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see that (K)faith was working with his works, and [c]as a result of the (L)works, faith was [d]perfected; 23 and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “(M)And Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called a (N)friend of God. 24 You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone. 25 In the same way, was (O)Rahab the prostitute not justified by works also (P)when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way? 26 For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also (Q)faith without works is dead.

Jesus Is the Vine—Followers Are Branches
15 “(A)I am the true vine, and My Father is the (B)vinedresser. 2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He [a]prunes it so that it may bear more fruit. 3 (C)You are already [b]clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. 4 (D)Remain in Me, [c]and I in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit [d]of itself [e]but must remain in the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in Me. 5 I am the vine, you are the branches; the one who remains in Me, and I in him [f](E)bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not remain in Me, he is (F)thrown away like a branch and dries up; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. 7 If you remain in Me, and My words remain in you, (G)ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 My (H)Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so [g](I)prove to be My disciples. 9 Just as (J)the Father has loved Me, I also have loved you; remain in My love. 10 (K)If you keep My commandments, you will remain in My love; just as (L)I have kept My Father’s commandments and remain in His love.

BOOK 1
The Righteous and the Wicked Contrasted.
1 Blessed is the person who (A)does not walk in the (B)counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the [a](C)path of sinners,
Nor (D)sit in the seat of scoffers!
2 But his (E)delight is (F)in the Law of the Lord,
And on His Law he meditates (G)day and (H)night.
3 He will be like (I)a tree planted by [b]streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season,
And its [c]leaf does not wither;
And [d]in whatever he does, (J)he prospers.

22 But (A)the fruit of the Spirit is (B)love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, (C)self-control; against such things (D)there is no law.

God’s Universal Reign
2 The word which (A)Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.
2 Now it will come about that
(B)In the last days
The (C)mountain of the house of the Lord
Will be established [a]as the chief of the mountains,
And will be raised above the hills;
And (D)all the nations will stream to it.
3 And many peoples will come and say,
“Come, let’s go up to the mountain of the Lord,
To the house of the God of Jacob;
So that He may teach us [b]about His ways,
And that we may walk in His paths.”
For [c]the law will go out (E)from Zion
And the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
