6 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and his ^[a]train filled the temple. ² Above him stood the seraphim: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly. ³ And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is Jehovah of hosts: ^[b]the whole earth is full of his glory. ⁴ And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke. ⁵ Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, Jehovah of hosts.

⁶ Then flew one of the seraphim unto me, having a ^[c]live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar: ⁷ and he touched my mouth with it, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin ^[d]forgiven. ⁸ And I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then I said, Here am I; send me. ⁹ And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye ^[e]indeed, but understand not; and see ye ^[f]indeed, but perceive not. ¹⁰ Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and ^[g]understand with their heart, and turn again, and be healed. ¹¹ Then said I, Lord, how long? And he answered, Until cities be waste without inhabitant, and houses without man, and the land become utterly waste, ¹² and Jehovah have removed men far away, and the forsaken places be many in the midst of the land. ^13 [h]And if there be yet a tenth in it, it also shall in turn be ^[i]eaten up: as a terebinth, and as an oak, ^[j]whose ^[k]stock remaineth, when they ^[l]are felled; so the holy seed is the ^[m]stock thereof.

7 And it came to pass in the days of Ahaz the son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of Judah, that Rezin the king of Syria, and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, went up to Jerusalem to war against it, but could not prevail against it. ² And it was told the house of David, saying, Syria ^[n]is confederate with Ephraim. And his heart trembled, and the heart of his people, as the trees of the forest tremble with the wind.

³ Then said Jehovah unto Isaiah, Go forth now to meet Ahaz, thou, and ^[o]Shear-jashub thy son, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool, in the highway of the fuller’s field; ⁴ and say unto him, Take heed, and be quiet; fear not, neither let thy heart be faint, because of these two tails of smoking firebrands, for the fierce anger of Rezin and Syria, and of the son of Remaliah. ⁵ Because Syria, Ephraim, and the son of Remaliah, have purposed evil against thee, saying, ⁶ Let us go up against Judah, and vex it, and let us make a breach therein for us, and set up a king in the midst of it, even the son of Tabeel; ⁷ thus saith the Lord Jehovah, It shall not stand, neither shall it come to pass. ⁸ For the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin; and within threescore and five years shall Ephraim be broken in pieces, so that it shall not be a people: ⁹ and the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is Remaliah’s son. If ye will not believe, surely ye shall not be established.

¹⁰ And Jehovah spake again unto Ahaz, saying, ¹¹ Ask thee a sign of Jehovah thy God; ask it either in the depth, or in the height above. ¹² But Ahaz said, I will not ask, neither will I tempt Jehovah. ¹³ And he said, Hear ye now, O house of David: Is it a small thing for you to weary men, that ye will weary my God also? ¹⁴ Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: behold, ^[p]a ^[q]virgin ^[r]shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name ^[s]Immanuel. ^15 [t]Butter and honey shall he eat, ^[u]when he knoweth to refuse the evil, and choose the good. ¹⁶ For before the child shall know to refuse the evil, and choose the good, the land whose two kings thou abhorrest shall be forsaken. ¹⁷ Jehovah will bring upon thee, and upon thy people, and upon thy father’s house, days that have not come, from the day that Ephraim departed from Judah—even the king of Assyria.

¹⁸ And it shall come to pass in that day, that Jehovah will hiss for the fly that is in the uttermost part of the rivers of Egypt, and for the bee that is in the land of Assyria. ¹⁹ And they shall come, and shall rest all of them in the ^[v]desolate valleys, and in the clefts of the rocks, and upon all thorn-hedges, and upon all ^[w]pastures.

²⁰ In that day will the Lord shave with a razor that is hired in the parts beyond the River, even with the king of Assyria, the head and the hair of the feet; and it shall also consume the beard.

²¹ And it shall come to pass in that day, that a man shall keep alive a young cow, and two sheep; ²² and it shall come to pass, that because of the abundance of milk which they shall give he shall eat butter: for butter and honey shall every one eat that is left in the midst of the land.

²³ And it shall come to pass in that day, that every place, where there were a thousand vines at a thousand silverlings, shall be for briers and thorns. ²⁴ With arrows and with bow shall one come thither, because all the land shall be briers and thorns. ²⁵ And all the hills that were digged with the mattock, ^[x]thou shalt not come thither for fear of briers and thorns; but it shall be for the sending forth of oxen, and for the treading of sheep.

¹⁶ I say again, Let no man think me foolish; but if ye do, yet as foolish receive me, that I also may glory a little. ¹⁷ That which I speak, I speak not after the Lord, but as in foolishness, in this confidence of glorying. ¹⁸ Seeing that many glory after the flesh, I will glory also. ¹⁹ For ye bear with the foolish gladly, being wise yourselves. ²⁰ For ye bear with a man, if he bringeth you into bondage, if he devoureth you, if he taketh you captive, if he exalteth himself, if he smiteth you on the face. ²¹ I speak by way of disparagement, as though we had been weak. Yet whereinsoever any is bold (I speak in foolishness), I am bold also. ²² Are they Hebrews? so am I. Are they Israelites? so am I. Are they the seed of Abraham? so am I. ²³ Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as one beside himself) I more; in labors more abundantly, in prisons more abundantly, in stripes above measure, in deaths oft. ²⁴ Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one. ²⁵ Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day have I been in the deep; ²⁶ in journeyings often, in perils of rivers, in perils of robbers, in perils from my ^[a]countrymen, in perils from the Gentiles, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren; ²⁷ in labor and travail, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness. ^28 [b]Besides those things that are without, there is that which presseth upon me daily, anxiety for all the churches. ²⁹ Who is weak, and I am not weak? who is caused to stumble, and I burn not? ³⁰ If I must needs glory, I will glory of the things that concern my weakness. ^31 [c]The God and Father of the Lord Jesus, he who is blessed ^[d]for evermore knoweth that I lie not. ³² In Damascus the ^[e]governor under Aretas the king guarded the city of the Damascenes in order to take me: ³³ and through a window was I let down in a basket by the wall, and escaped his hands.
