Previously saying, “Sacrifice and offering, burnt offerings, and offerings for sin You did not desire, nor had pleasure in them” (which are offered according to the law), then He said, “Behold, I have come to do Your will, [a]O God.” He takes away the first that He may establish the second. 10 (A)By that will we have been [b]sanctified (B)through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

Christ’s Death Perfects the Sanctified

11 And every priest stands (C)ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. 12 (D)But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down (E)at the right hand of God, 13 from that time waiting (F)till His enemies are made His footstool. 14 For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being [c]sanctified.

15 But the Holy Spirit also witnesses to us; for after He had said before,

16 (G)“This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them,” 17 then He adds, (H)“Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.” 18 Now where there is [d]remission of these, there is no longer an offering for sin.

Hold Fast Your Confession

19 Therefore, brethren, having (I)boldness[e] to enter (J)the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and (K)living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, 21 and having a High Priest over the house of God, 22 let us (L)draw near with a true heart (M)in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for (N)He who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, 25 (O)not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and (P)so much the more as you see (Q)the Day approaching.

The Just Live by Faith

26 For (R)if we sin willfully (S)after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there (T)no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27 but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and (U)fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries. 28 Anyone who has rejected Moses’ law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three (V)witnesses. 29 (W)Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, (X)counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, (Y)and insulted the Spirit of grace? 30 For we know Him who said, (Z)“Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” [f]says the Lord. And again, (AA)“The Lord will judge His people.” 31 (AB)It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

First he said, “Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them”(A)—though they were offered in accordance with the law. Then he said, “Here I am, I have come to do your will.”(B) He sets aside the first to establish the second. 10 And by that will, we have been made holy(C) through the sacrifice of the body(D) of Jesus Christ once for all.(E)

11 Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices,(F) which can never take away sins.(G) 12 But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins,(H) he sat down at the right hand of God,(I) 13 and since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool.(J) 14 For by one sacrifice he has made perfect(K) forever those who are being made holy.(L)

15 The Holy Spirit also testifies(M) to us about this. First he says:

16 “This is the covenant I will make with them
after that time, says the Lord.
I will put my laws in their hearts,
and I will write them on their minds.”[a](N)

17 Then he adds:

“Their sins and lawless acts
    I will remember no more.”[b](O)

18 And where these have been forgiven, sacrifice for sin is no longer necessary.

A Call to Persevere in Faith

19 Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence(P) to enter the Most Holy Place(Q) by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way(R) opened for us through the curtain,(S) that is, his body, 21 and since we have a great priest(T) over the house of God,(U) 22 let us draw near to God(V) with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings,(W) having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience(X) and having our bodies washed with pure water.(Y) 23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope(Z) we profess,(AA) for he who promised is faithful.(AB) 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds,(AC) 25 not giving up meeting together,(AD) as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another(AE)—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.(AF)

26 If we deliberately keep on sinning(AG) after we have received the knowledge of the truth,(AH) no sacrifice for sins is left, 27 but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire(AI) that will consume the enemies of God. 28 Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.(AJ) 29 How much more severely do you think someone deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God(AK) underfoot,(AL) who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant(AM) that sanctified them,(AN) and who has insulted the Spirit(AO) of grace?(AP) 30 For we know him who said, “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,”[c](AQ) and again, “The Lord will judge his people.”[d](AR) 31 It is a dreadful thing(AS) to fall into the hands(AT) of the living God.(AU)
