²³ Bethuel became the father of Rebekah.^(A) Milkah bore these eight sons to Abraham’s brother Nahor.^{(B) 24} His concubine,^(C) whose name was Reumah, also had sons: Tebah, Gaham, Tahash and Maakah.

²² While Israel was living in that region, Reuben went in and slept with his father’s concubine^(A) Bilhah,^(B) and Israel heard of it.

Jacob had twelve sons:

²⁹ Jerub-Baal^(A) son of Joash^(B) went back home to live. ³⁰ He had seventy sons^(C) of his own, for he had many wives. ³¹ His concubine,^(D) who lived in Shechem, also bore him a son, whom he named Abimelek.^{(E) 32} Gideon son of Joash died at a good old age^(F) and was buried in the tomb of his father Joash in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.

A Levite and His Concubine

19 In those days Israel had no king.

Now a Levite who lived in a remote area in the hill country of Ephraim^(A) took a concubine from Bethlehem in Judah.^(B)
