8 Y llegó a Jerusalén en el mes quinto del año séptimo del rey. 9 Porque el día primero del primer mes fue el principio de la partida de Babilonia, y al primero del mes quinto llegó a Jerusalén, estando con él la buena mano de Dios. 10 Porque Esdras había preparado su corazón para inquirir la ley de Jehová y para cumplirla, y para enseñar en Israel sus estatutos y decretos.
11 Esta es la copia de la carta que dio el rey Artajerjes al sacerdote Esdras, escriba versado en los mandamientos de Jehová y en sus estatutos a Israel: 12 Artajerjes rey de reyes, a Esdras, sacerdote y escriba erudito en la ley del Dios del cielo: Paz.

Modern English Version
8 Ezra arrived at Jerusalem in the fifth month, during the king’s seventh year. 9 From the first day of the first month when the journey from Babylon began, until the first day of the fifth month when he arrived at Jerusalem, the good hand of his God was upon him. 10 Because Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the Law of the Lord, he was doing so and teaching the statutes and judgments in Israel.
The Letter of Artaxerxes to Ezra
11 Now this is the copy of the letter that King Artaxerxes gave to Ezra the priest, who was likewise the scribe, the one responsible for the words of the commandments of the Lord and His statutes to Israel:
12 “Artaxerxes, king of kings,
“To Ezra the priest, scribe of the law of the God of heaven:
“Perfect peace, and so forth.

8 Ezra arrived in Jerusalem in August[a] of that year. 9 He had arranged to leave Babylon on April 8, the first day of the new year,[b] and he arrived at Jerusalem on August 4,[c] for the gracious hand of his God was on him. 10 This was because Ezra had determined to study and obey the Law of the Lord and to teach those decrees and regulations to the people of Israel.
Artaxerxes’ Letter to Ezra
11 King Artaxerxes had given a copy of the following letter to Ezra, the priest and scribe who studied and taught the commands and decrees of the Lord to Israel:
12 [d]“From Artaxerxes, the king of kings, to Ezra the priest, the teacher of the law of the God of heaven. Greetings.
