²⁷ Nevertheless, some of the people went out on the seventh day to gather it, but they found none. ²⁸ Then the Lord said to Moses, “How long will you^[a] refuse to keep my commands^(A) and my instructions?

³ But the people were thirsty^(A) for water there, and they grumbled^(B) against Moses. They said, “Why did you bring us up out of Egypt to make us and our children and livestock die^(C) of thirst?”

⁷ And he called the place Massah^[a](A) and Meribah^[b](B) because the Israelites quarreled and because they tested the Lord saying, “Is the Lord among us or not?”
