    As surely as I live forever,^(B)
41 when I sharpen my flashing sword^(C)
    and my hand grasps it in judgment,
I will take vengeance^(D) on my adversaries
    and repay those who hate me.^(E)
42 I will make my arrows drunk with blood,^(F)
    while my sword devours flesh:^(G)
the blood of the slain and the captives,
    the heads of the enemy leaders.”

⁴³ Rejoice,^(H) you nations, with his people,^[a][b]
    for he will avenge the blood of his servants;^(I)
he will take vengeance on his enemies^(J)
    and make atonement for his land and people.^(K)

⁶ Wail,^(A) for the day^(B) of the Lord is near;
    it will come like destruction^(C) from the Almighty.^[a](D)

⁹ See, the day^(A) of the Lord is coming
    —a cruel^(B) day, with wrath^(C) and fierce anger^(D)—
to make the land desolate
    and destroy the sinners within it.

³ For the day is near,^(A)
    the day of the Lord^(B) is near—
a day of clouds,
    a time of doom for the nations.

    For the day of the Lord^(B) is near;
    it will come like destruction from the Almighty.^[a](C)
