^32 [a] “Everything that I command you, you shall be careful to do. ^(A)You shall not add to it or take from it.

13 “If a prophet or ^(B)a dreamer of dreams arises among you and gives you a sign or a wonder, ² and ^(C)the sign or wonder that he tells you comes to pass, and if he says, ‘Let us go after other gods,’ which you have not known, ‘and let us serve them,’ ³ you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams. For the Lord your God ^(D)is testing you, to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. ⁴ You shall ^(E)walk after the Lord your God and fear him and keep his commandments and obey his voice, and you shall serve him and ^(F)hold fast to him. ⁵ But ^(G)that prophet or that dreamer of dreams shall be put to death, because he has taught rebellion against the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you out of the house of slavery, to make you leave the way in which the Lord your God commanded you to walk. ^(H)So you shall purge the evil^[b] from your midst.

^2 (A)“If there is found among you, within any of your towns that the Lord your God is giving you, a man or woman who does what is evil in the sight of the Lord your God, ^(B)in transgressing his covenant, ³ and has gone and served other gods and worshiped them, or ^(C)the sun or the moon or any of the host of heaven, ^(D)which I have forbidden, ⁴ and it is told you and you hear of it, then you shall inquire ^(E)diligently, and if it is true and certain that such an abomination has been done in Israel, ⁵ then you shall bring out to your gates that man or woman who has done this evil thing, and you ^(F)shall stone that man or woman to death with stones. ^6 (G)On the evidence of two witnesses or of three witnesses the one who is to die shall be put to death; a person shall not be put to death on the evidence of one witness. ^7 (H)The hand of the witnesses shall be first against him to put him to death, and afterward the hand of all the people. So ^(I)you shall purge^[a] the evil^[b] from your midst.
