“I have heard the (A)reproach of Moab
And the (B)revilings of the sons of Ammon,
With which they have reproached My people
And (C)magnified themselves against their territory.
Therefore, as I live,” declares Yahweh of hosts,
The God of Israel,
“Surely (D)Moab will be like (E)Sodom
And the sons of (F)Ammon like (G)Gomorrah—
A place possessed by nettles and salt pits,
And a perpetual desolation.
The remnant of My people will (H)plunder them,
And the remainder of My nation will inherit them.”

10 This they will have in return for their (I)pride because they have (J)reproached and magnified themselves against the people of Yahweh of hosts. 11 Yahweh will be (K)fearsome to them, for He will [a]starve (L)all the gods of the earth; and all the (M)coastlands of the nations will (N)bow down to Him, everyone from his own place.

  1. Zephaniah 2:11 Lit make lean

I have heard the taunting(A) of Moab
and the insults of the Ammonites,(B)
who have taunted my people
and threatened their territory.
Therefore, as I live—
this is the declaration of the Lord of Armies, the God of Israel—
Moab will be like Sodom(C)
and the Ammonites like Gomorrah:(D)
a place overgrown with weeds,
a salt pit, and a perpetual wasteland.
The remnant of my people will plunder them;
the remainder of my nation will dispossess them.
10 This is what they get for their pride,
because they have taunted and acted arrogantly(E)
against the people of the Lord of Armies.
11 The Lord will be terrifying to them
when he starves all the gods of the earth.
Then all the distant coasts and islands of the nations
will bow in worship to him,
each in its own place.
