¹⁸ Neither their silver nor their gold
    will be able to save them
    on the day of the Lord’s wrath;
in the fire of his passion
    the whole earth shall be consumed,
for a full, a terrible end
    he will make of all the inhabitants of the earth.^(A)

⁸ Therefore wait for me, says the Lord,
    for the day when I arise as a witness.
For my decision is to gather nations,
    to assemble kingdoms,
to pour out upon them my indignation,
    all the heat of my anger,
for in the fire of my passion
    all the earth shall be consumed.^(A)

¹⁹ They shall fling their silver into the streets;
    their gold shall be treated as unclean.

² I will utterly sweep away everything
    from the face of the earth, says the Lord.^(A)
3 I will sweep away humans and animals;
    I will sweep away the birds of the air
    and the fish of the sea.
I will make the wicked stumble.^[a]
    I will cut off humanity
    from the face of the earth, says the Lord.^(B)

⁴ Riches do not profit in the day of wrath,
    but righteousness delivers from death.^(A)

24 Now the Lord is about to lay waste the earth and make it desolate,
    and he will twist its surface and scatter its inhabitants.^(A)
2 And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest;
    as with the male slave, so with his master;
    as with the female slave, so with her mistress;
as with the buyer, so with the seller;
    as with the lender, so with the borrower;
    as with the creditor, so with the debtor.^(B)
3 The earth shall be utterly laid waste and utterly despoiled,
    for the Lord has spoken this word.^(C)
