Jerusalems synd og dom
3 Ve Jerusalem, den oprørske by,
fuld af synd og undertrykkelse.
2 Den afviser enhver advarsel
og nægter at høre efter.
Den har ikke sat sin lid til Herren,
søger slet ikke sin Gud.
3 Dens magthavere er brølende løver,
dens dommere er glubske ulve.
Har de først fået fat i et bytte,
fortærer de det rub og stub.
4 Dens profeter går rundt og praler,
men er fulde af løgn og bedrag.
Dens præster håner det, som er helligt,
overtræder Guds love uden skrupler.
5 Men Herren er dog stadig i byen,
det er ikke ham, der gør uret.
Hver morgen viser han sin godhed,
ved hver solopgang er han til stede.
Men de gudløse fortsætter deres gerninger,
for de har ikke skam i livet.
6 Herren siger: „Jeg har udryddet mange folkeslag
og ødelagt deres befæstede byer.
Jeg har lagt gaderne øde,
så ingen længere går på dem.
Byerne er nu folketomme,
så ingen længere bor i dem.
7 Jeg tænkte: ‚Jerusalem må da tage ved lære
og vise ærefrygt for mig.’
Havde de gjort det, havde de undgået min straf,
og byen ville ikke blive ødelagt.
Men de fremturede i deres synd,
og det blev om muligt endnu værre.”
Den endelige dom
8 Endvidere siger Herren:
„Derfor må I tålmodigt vente på den dag,
hvor jeg rejser mig.[a]
Da vil jeg afsige min retfærdige dom
og samle alle jordens folk sammen.
Da vil jeg udøse min vrede over dem.
I min lidenskab vil jeg brænde jorden op.
Frelse og genoprettelse
9 Da vil jeg rense mit folks hjerter
og ændre deres tanker og tale.
Så skal de alle tilbede mig
og tjene mig enigt og trofast.
10 Fra jordens fjerneste egne kommer mit adspredte folk
og tilbeder mig med offergaver.
11 Da skal I ikke længere skamme jer
over al jeres ondskab og oprør mod mig.
For jeg vil fjerne alle de stolte iblandt jer,
ingen skal hovmode sig på mit hellige bjerg.
12 De, der er tilbage, er de afmægtige og ydmyge,
den rest, der søger tilflugt hos mig.
13 Der bliver en rest af mit folk, Israel,
som ikke begår uret eller lyver og bedrager.
De skal få lov at leve i fred,
og ingen vil terrorisere dem.”
14 Syng af glæde, Jerusalems indbyggere.
Råb af fryd, Israels folk.
Ja, glæd jer af hele jeres hjerte.
15 Herren har fritaget jer fra straffen
og overvundet alle jeres fjender.
Nu bor Herren, Israels Konge, midt iblandt jer.
Aldrig mere skal I frygte noget ondt.
16 Den dag vil man sige til Jerusalems indbyggere:
„Frygt ikke. Opgiv ikke modet.
17 Herren, jeres Gud, bor midt iblandt jer.
Han er jeres mægtige Frelser.
Han elsker jer og glæder sig over jer,
han fornyer jer med sin kærlighed,
han synger af glæde over jer
som på højtidsdagene.”
18 Herren siger:
„I skal ikke længere sørge over,
at I ikke kunne deltage i højtiderne.[b]
19 Engang vil jeg straffe jeres undertrykkere.
Jeg vil helbrede de haltende
og samle dem, der blev adspredt.
Jeg vil vende deres vanære til ære
og gøre dem berømte over hele jorden.
20 Til den tid vil jeg samle jer sammen
og føre jer hjem igen.
Jeg vil skabe respekt om jer
og give jer et godt ry blandt jordens folk.
I vil få at se, hvordan jeg genopretter jer.”

The Wickedness of Jerusalem
3 Woe to her who is rebellious and polluted,
To the oppressing city!
2 She has not obeyed His voice,
She has not received correction;
She has not trusted in the Lord,
She has not drawn near to her God.
3 (A)Her princes in her midst are roaring lions;
Her judges are (B)evening wolves
That leave not a bone till morning.
4 Her (C)prophets are insolent, treacherous people;
Her priests have [a]polluted the sanctuary,
They have done (D)violence to the law.
5 The Lord is righteous in her midst,
He will do no unrighteousness.
[b]Every morning He brings His justice to light;
He never fails,
But (E)the unjust knows no shame.
6 “I have cut off nations,
Their fortresses are devastated;
I have made their streets desolate,
With none passing by.
Their cities are destroyed;
There is no one, no inhabitant.
7 (F)I said, ‘Surely you will fear Me,
You will receive instruction’—
So that her dwelling would not be cut off,
Despite everything for which I punished her.
But [c]they rose early and (G)corrupted all their deeds.
A Faithful Remnant(H)
8 “Therefore (I)wait for Me,” says the Lord,
“Until the day I rise up [d]for plunder;
My determination is to (J)gather the nations
To My assembly of kingdoms,
To pour on them My indignation,
All My fierce anger;
All the earth (K)shall be devoured
With the fire of My jealousy.
9 “For then I will restore to the peoples (L)a pure [e]language,
That they all may call on the name of the Lord,
To serve Him with one accord.
10 (M)From beyond the rivers of Ethiopia
My worshipers,
The daughter of My dispersed ones,
Shall bring My offering.
11 In that day you shall not be shamed for any of your deeds
In which you transgress against Me;
For then I will take away from your midst
Those who (N)rejoice in your pride,
And you shall no longer be haughty
In My holy mountain.
12 I will leave in your midst
(O)A meek and humble people,
And they shall trust in the name of the Lord.
13 (P)The remnant of Israel (Q)shall do no unrighteousness
(R)And speak no lies,
Nor shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth;
For (S)they shall feed their flocks and lie down,
And no one shall make them afraid.”
Joy in God’s Faithfulness
14 (T)Sing, O daughter of Zion!
Shout, O Israel!
Be glad and rejoice with all your heart,
O daughter of Jerusalem!
15 The Lord has taken away your judgments,
He has cast out your enemy.
(U)The King of Israel, the Lord, (V)is in your midst;
You shall [f]see disaster no more.
16 In that day (W)it shall be said to Jerusalem:
“Do not fear;
Zion, (X)let not your hands be weak.
17 The Lord your God (Y)in your midst,
The Mighty One, will save;
(Z)He will rejoice over you with gladness,
He will quiet you with His love,
He will rejoice over you with singing.”
18 “I will gather those who (AA)sorrow over the appointed assembly,
Who are among you,
To whom its reproach is a burden.
19 Behold, at that time
I will deal with all who afflict you;
I will save the (AB)lame,
And gather those who were driven out;
I will appoint them for praise and fame
In every land where they were put to shame.
20 At that time (AC)I will bring you back,
Even at the time I gather you;
For I will give you [g]fame and praise
Among all the peoples of the earth,
When I return your captives before your eyes,”

3 Woe to her who is filthy, defiled;
woe to the tyrant city!
2 She wouldn’t listen to the voice,
wouldn’t receive correction;
she didn’t trust in Adonai,
didn’t draw close to her God.
3 Her leaders there with her are roaring lions,
her judges desert wolves,
who don’t leave even a bone for tomorrow.
4 Her prophets are reckless, treacherous men;
her cohanim profane the holy
and do violence to Torah.
5 Adonai, who is righteous, is there among them;
he never does anything wrong.
Every morning he renders his judgment,
every morning, without fail;
yet the wrongdoer knows no shame.
6 “I have cut off nations,
their battlements are ruined;
I have made their streets ruins,
no one walks in them.
Their cities are destroyed,
abandoned, unpeopled.
7 I said, ‘Surely now you will fear me,
you will receive correction’;
so that her place will not be cut off
by all the punishments I brought on her.
But no, they only grew all the more eager
to be corrupt in all that they do.
8 Therefore, wait for me,” says Adonai,
“for the day when I rise to witness against you,
when I decide to assemble nations,
to gather kingdoms together,
to pour on them my indignation,
all my furious anger;
for all the earth will be consumed
in the fire of my passion.
9 For then I will change the peoples,
so that they will have pure lips,
to call on the name of Adonai, all of them,
and serve him with one accord.
10 Even from beyond Ethiopia’s rivers
they will bring those who petition me,
the daughter of my dispersed as my offering.
11 When that day comes, you will not be ashamed
of everything you have done,
committing wrongs against me;
for then I will remove from among you
those of you who take joy in arrogance;
you will no longer be full of pride
on my holy mountain.
12 I will leave among you
a poor and afflicted people,
who will find their refuge
in the name of Adonai.”
13 The remnant of Isra’el will not do wrong,
nor will they speak lies,
nor will there be found in their mouths
a tongue given over to deceit;
for they will be able to graze and lie down,
with no one to disturb them.
14 Sing, daughter of Tziyon!
Shout, Isra’el!
Be glad and rejoice with all your heart,
daughter of Yerushalayim!
15 Adonai has removed the judgments against you,
he has expelled your enemy;
the king of Isra’el, Adonai,
is right there with you.
You no longer need to fear
that anything bad will happen.
16 On that day, it will be said
to Yerushalayim,
“Do not fear, Tziyon!
don’t let your hands droop down.
17 Adonai your God is right there with you,
as a mighty savior.
He will rejoice over you and be glad,
he will be silent in his love,
he will shout over you with joy.”
18 “I will gather those of yours
who grieve over the appointed feasts
and bear the burden of reproach
[because they cannot keep them].
19 When that time comes, I will deal
with all those who oppress you.
I will save her who is lame,
gather her who was driven away,
and make them whose shame spread over the earth
the object of praise and renown.
20 When that time comes, I will bring you in;
when that time comes, I will gather you
and make you the object of fame and praise
among all the peoples of the earth —
when I restore your fortunes
before your very eyes,” says Adonai.
