Israel Defended Against Enemies
9 The [a]burden of the word of the Lord
Against the land of Hadrach,
And (A)Damascus its resting place
(For (B)the eyes of men
And all the tribes of Israel
Are on the Lord);
2 Also against (C)Hamath, which borders on it,
And against (D)Tyre and (E)Sidon, though they are very (F)wise.
3 For Tyre built herself a tower,
Heaped up silver like the dust,
And gold like the mire of the streets.
4 Behold, (G)the Lord will cast her out;
He will destroy (H)her power in the sea,
And she will be devoured by fire.
5 Ashkelon shall see it and fear;
Gaza also shall be very sorrowful;
And (I)Ekron, for He dried up her expectation.
The king shall perish from Gaza,
And Ashkelon shall not be inhabited.
6 “A[b] mixed race shall settle (J)in Ashdod,
And I will cut off the pride of the (K)Philistines.
7 I will take away the blood from his mouth,
And the abominations from between his teeth.
But he who remains, even he shall be for our God,
And shall be like a leader in Judah,
And Ekron like a Jebusite.
8 (L)I will camp around My house
Because of the army,
Because of him who passes by and him who returns.
No more shall an oppressor pass through them,
For now I have seen with My eyes.
The Coming King(M)
9 “Rejoice (N)greatly, O daughter of Zion!
Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, (O)your King is coming to you;
He is just and having salvation,
Lowly and riding on a donkey,
A colt, the foal of a donkey.
10 I (P)will cut off the chariot from Ephraim
And the horse from Jerusalem;
The (Q)battle bow shall be cut off.
He shall speak peace to the nations;
His dominion shall be (R)‘from sea to sea,
And from the River to the ends of the earth.’
God Will Save His People
11 “As for you also,
Because of the blood of your covenant,
I will set your (S)prisoners free from the waterless pit.
12 Return to the stronghold,
(T)You prisoners of hope.
Even today I declare
That I will restore (U)double to you.
13 For I have bent Judah, My bow,
Fitted the bow with Ephraim,
And raised up your sons, O Zion,
Against your sons, O Greece,
And made you like the sword of a mighty man.”
14 Then the Lord will be seen over them,
And (V)His arrow will go forth like lightning.
The Lord God will blow the trumpet,
And go (W)with whirlwinds from the south.
15 The Lord of hosts will (X)defend them;
They shall devour and subdue with slingstones.
They shall drink and roar as if with wine;
They shall be filled with blood like [c]basins,
Like the corners of the altar.
16 The Lord their God will (Y)save them in that day,
As the flock of His people.
For (Z)they shall be like the [d]jewels of a crown,
(AA)Lifted like a banner over His land—
17 For (AB)how great is [e]its goodness
And how great its (AC)beauty!
(AD)Grain shall make the young men thrive,
And new wine the young women.

Judgment on Israel’s Enemies
9 A prophecy:(A)
The word of the Lord is against the land of Hadrak
and will come to rest on Damascus(B)—
for the eyes of all people and all the tribes of Israel
are on the Lord—[a]
2 and on Hamath(C) too, which borders on it,
and on Tyre(D) and Sidon,(E) though they are very skillful.
3 Tyre has built herself a stronghold;
she has heaped up silver like dust,
and gold like the dirt of the streets.(F)
4 But the Lord will take away her possessions
and destroy(G) her power on the sea,
and she will be consumed by fire.(H)
5 Ashkelon(I) will see it and fear;
Gaza will writhe in agony,
and Ekron too, for her hope will wither.
Gaza will lose her king
and Ashkelon will be deserted.
6 A mongrel people will occupy Ashdod,
and I will put an end(J) to the pride of the Philistines.
7 I will take the blood from their mouths,
the forbidden food from between their teeth.
Those who are left will belong to our God(K)
and become a clan in Judah,
and Ekron will be like the Jebusites.(L)
8 But I will encamp(M) at my temple
to guard it against marauding forces.(N)
Never again will an oppressor overrun my people,
for now I am keeping watch.(O)
The Coming of Zion’s King
9 Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion!(P)
Shout,(Q) Daughter Jerusalem!
See, your king comes to you,(R)
righteous and victorious,(S)
lowly and riding on a donkey,(T)
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.(U)
10 I will take away the chariots from Ephraim
and the warhorses from Jerusalem,
and the battle bow will be broken.(V)
He will proclaim peace(W) to the nations.
His rule will extend from sea to sea
and from the River[b] to the ends of the earth.(X)
11 As for you, because of the blood of my covenant(Y) with you,
I will free your prisoners(Z) from the waterless pit.(AA)
12 Return to your fortress,(AB) you prisoners of hope;
even now I announce that I will restore twice(AC) as much to you.
13 I will bend Judah as I bend my bow(AD)
and fill it with Ephraim.(AE)
I will rouse your sons, Zion,
against your sons, Greece,(AF)
and make you like a warrior’s sword.(AG)
The Lord Will Appear
14 Then the Lord will appear over them;(AH)
his arrow will flash like lightning.(AI)
The Sovereign Lord will sound the trumpet;(AJ)
he will march in the storms(AK) of the south,
15 and the Lord Almighty will shield(AL) them.
They will destroy
and overcome with slingstones.(AM)
They will drink and roar as with wine;(AN)
they will be full like a bowl(AO)
used for sprinkling[c] the corners(AP) of the altar.
16 The Lord their God will save his people on that day(AQ)
as a shepherd saves his flock.
They will sparkle in his land
like jewels in a crown.(AR)
17 How attractive and beautiful they will be!
Grain will make the young men thrive,
and new wine the young women.

precum şi împotriva Tirului şi a Sidonului,
chiar dacă sunt foarte înţelepte!
3 Tirul şi-a zidit o cetăţuie;
a strâns argint – ca praful,
şi aur – ca noroiul de pe străzi.
4 Iată însă că Stăpânul îl va lua în stăpânire,
îi va prăbuşi puterea în mare
şi va fi mistuit de foc!
5 Aşchelonul va privi şi se va teme,
Gaza se va zvârcoli de durere,
iar Ekronul va face la fel, căci nădejdea lor va fi dată de ruşine.
Regele din Gaza va pieri,
iar Aşchelonul nu va mai fi locuit.
6 Un bastard va locui în Aşdod
şi voi reteza mândria filistenilor.
7 Le voi scoate sângele din gură
şi necurăţiile[d] dintre dinţi!
Totuşi le va fi lăsată o rămăşiţă pentru Dumnezeul nostru
şi ea va fi ca un clan[e] în Iuda,
iar Ekronul va fi ca iebusiţii[f].
8 Îmi voi aşeza tabăra în jurul Casei[g] Mele,
ca s-o apăr de invadatori[h],
şi niciodată nu va mai trece asupritorul peste ei,
fiindcă acum Eu Însumi veghez cu ochii Mei!“
Venirea Împăratului Sionului
9 „Saltă de veselie, fiică a Sionului!
Strigă de bucurie, fiică a Ierusalimului!
Iată că Împăratul[i] tău vine la tine,
drept şi biruitor,
smerit şi călare pe un măgar,
pe un măgăruş, pe mânzul unei măgăriţe!
10 Voi distruge carele din Efraim[j]
şi caii din Ierusalim,
iar arcurile de luptă vor fi distruse.
El va vesti neamurilor pacea,
iar stăpânirea Lui se va întinde de la o mare la cealaltă
şi de la râu[k] până la marginile pământului[l].
11 Cât despre tine, din pricina sângelui legământului Meu cu tine,
îţi voi elibera captivii din groapa fără apă!
12 Întoarceţi-vă în fortăreaţă, prizonieri ai nădejdii!
O spun chiar astăzi că îţi voi întoarce îndoit[m]!
13 Căci Mi-l încordez pe Iuda ca pe un arc,
iar pe Efraim îl potrivesc ca pe o săgeată!
Îi voi ridica pe fiii tăi, Sioane,
împotriva fiilor tăi, ţară a Greciei,
şi te voi face ca sabia unui viteaz!
14 Domnul se va ivi deasupra lor
şi săgeata Lui va porni ca un fulger!
Stăpânul Domn va suna din corn
şi va înainta prin furtuna din sud!
15 Domnul Oştirilor îi va ocroti,
iar ei vor devora,
vor zdrobi pietrele de praştie[n]!
Ei vor bea şi vor striga ca ameţiţi de vin!
Vor fi plini ca o cupă,
asemenea colţurilor altarului![o]
16 Domnul, Dumnezeul lor, îi va izbăvi în ziua aceea,
căci ei sunt turma poporului Său!
Asemenea pietrelor unei coroane,
aşa vor străluci deasupra ţării Sale!
17 Cât de minunaţi şi cât de frumoşi vor fi!
Grânele îi vor face înfloritori pe tineri
iar mustul – pe fecioare.“
