Punishment on Israel’s Enemies

9 ·This message is [An oracle/burden of] the word of the Lord.

The message is against the land of Hadrach [^Cregion north of Israel]
    and ·the city of Damascus [^LDamascus its resting place].
·All [^LFor the eyes of all] people, including all the tribes of Israel
    ·belong to [or are on] the Lord.
²The message is also against the city of Hamath, on the border,
    and against Tyre and Sidon [^Ccities on the coast northwest of Israel], ·with their skill [or though they are very wise/clever].
³Tyre has built a ·strong wall [fortress; stronghold] for herself.
    She has piled up silver like dust
    and gold like the mud in the streets.
⁴But [^Llook; ^Tbehold] the Lord will take away all she has
    and ·destroy her power on [or throw her fortifications into] the sea.
    That city will be ·destroyed [consumed; devoured] by fire.
⁵·The city of Ashkelon [^LAshkelon] will see it and be afraid.
    ·The people of Gaza [^LGaza] will ·shake with fear [writhe in anguish],
    and ·the people of Ekron [^LEkron] ·will lose hope [or their hope will wither].
No king will be left in Gaza,
    and no one will live in Ashkelon anymore.
⁶·Foreigners [A mixed/mongrel people] will live in Ashdod,
    and I will ·destroy [^Lcut off] the pride of the Philistines.
⁷I will ·stop them from drinking blood [^Ltake the blood from their mouths; Lev. 3:17; Deut. 12:16, 23]
    and ·from eating forbidden food [^Lits abominations from between its teeth].
Those left alive will belong to God.
    They will be ·leaders [or like a clan] in Judah,
    and Ekron will become like the Jebusites [^Cancient inhabitants of Jerusalem who were assimilated into Judah].
⁸I will ·protect [encamp around] my ·Temple [^Lhouse]
    from armies who would come or go.
No ·one [oppressor] will ·hurt [overrun; pass over] my people again,
    because now I ·am watching them [^Lsee with my eyes].

The King Is Coming

⁹Rejoice greatly, ·people of Jerusalem [^LDaughter Zion]!
    Shout for joy, ·people of Jerusalem [^LDaughter Jerusalem]!
[^LLook; ^TBehold] Your king is coming to you.
    He ·does what is right [is righteous/just], and he saves.
    He is ·gentle [lowly; humble] and riding on a donkey,
    on ·the colt [^La colt, the foal] of a donkey [Matt. 21:5; John 12:15].
¹⁰I will ·take away [^Lcut off] the chariots from Ephraim
    and the ·horses [warhorses] from Jerusalem.
    The bows used in war will be broken.
The king will ·talk about [announce; bring] peace to the nations.
    His ·kingdom [dominion; rule] will go from sea to sea,
and from the ·Euphrates River [^LRiver] to the ends of the earth.

¹¹As for you, because of the blood of ·the agreement [my covenant/treaty] with you
    I will set your prisoners free from the waterless pit.
¹²You prisoners who have hope,
    return to ·your place of safety [the fortress/stronghold].
Today I ·am telling you [announce; declare]
    that I will ·give you back twice as much as before [return double what you lost].
¹³I will ·use [^Lbend] Judah like a bow
    and Ephraim like the arrows.
·Jerusalem [^LZion; ^Cthe location of the Temple], I will ·use your men [^Lrouse your sons/children]
    ·to fight the men of [against your sons/children,] Greece.
I will use you like a warrior’s sword.

¹⁴Then the Lord will appear above them,
    and his arrows will shoot like lightning.
The Lord God will blow the trumpet,
    and he will march in the ·storms [whirlwinds] of the south.
¹⁵The Lord ·All-Powerful [Almighty; of Heaven’s Armies; ^Tof hosts] will protect them;
    they will ·destroy [^Leat and subdue] the enemy with slingshots.
They will drink and shout like drunks.
    They will be filled like a bowl
    used for sprinkling blood ·at [or and drenched with blood like] the corners of the altar.
¹⁶On that day the Lord their God will save them
    as ·if his people were sheep [^Lthe flock of his people].
They will shine in his land
    like jewels in a crown.
¹⁷They will be so ·pretty [fine; good] and beautiful.
    The young men will grow strong on the grain
    and the young women on new wine.

Zechariah 9

9 The burden of the word of the Lord in the land of Hadrach, and Damascus shall be the rest thereof: when the eyes of man, as of all the tribes of Israel, shall be toward the Lord.

²And Hamath also shall border thereby; Tyrus, and Zidon, though it be very wise.

³And Tyrus did build herself a strong hold, and heaped up silver as the dust, and fine gold as the mire of the streets.

⁴Behold, the Lord will cast her out, and he will smite her power in the sea; and she shall be devoured with fire.

⁵Ashkelon shall see it, and fear; Gaza also shall see it, and be very sorrowful, and Ekron; for her expectation shall be ashamed; and the king shall perish from Gaza, and Ashkelon shall not be inhabited.

⁶And a bastard shall dwell in Ashdod, and I will cut off the pride of the Philistines.

⁷And I will take away his blood out of his mouth, and his abominations from between his teeth: but he that remaineth, even he, shall be for our God, and he shall be as a governor in Judah, and Ekron as a Jebusite.

⁸And I will encamp about mine house because of the army, because of him that passeth by, and because of him that returneth: and no oppressor shall pass through them any more: for now have I seen with mine eyes.

⁹Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.

¹⁰And I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim, and the horse from Jerusalem, and the battle bow shall be cut off: and he shall speak peace unto the heathen: and his dominion shall be from sea even to sea, and from the river even to the ends of the earth.

¹¹As for thee also, by the blood of thy covenant I have sent forth thy prisoners out of the pit wherein is no water.

¹²Turn you to the strong hold, ye prisoners of hope: even to day do I declare that I will render double unto thee;

¹³When I have bent Judah for me, filled the bow with Ephraim, and raised up thy sons, O Zion, against thy sons, O Greece, and made thee as the sword of a mighty man.

¹⁴And the Lord shall be seen over them, and his arrow shall go forth as the lightning: and the Lord God shall blow the trumpet, and shall go with whirlwinds of the south.

¹⁵The Lord of hosts shall defend them; and they shall devour, and subdue with sling stones; and they shall drink, and make a noise as through wine; and they shall be filled like bowls, and as the corners of the altar.

¹⁶And the Lord their God shall save them in that day as the flock of his people: for they shall be as the stones of a crown, lifted up as an ensign upon his land.

¹⁷For how great is his goodness, and how great is his beauty! corn shall make the young men cheerful, and new wine the maids.

9 このことばは、ハデラクとダマスコの地に対する
神ののろいに関するものです。
主がイスラエルだけでなく、
全人類をくまなく見ているからです。
²「ダマスコに近いハマテにも、
抜け目のないツロやシドンにも審判が下される。
³ツロは完全武装し、大金持ちになったので、
ツロにとって銀は泥のようなもの、
純金は道のほこりのようなものだ。
⁴だが、わたしはツロの所有物を取り上げ、
とりでを海に投げ込む。
ツロは火をつけられて焼け落ちる。
⁵アシュケロンは、これを見て恐れに満ち、
ガザは絶望でうずくまり、
エクロンは恐怖で震える。
ツロが敵の前進を防いでくれると思っていたのに、
望みは断たれてしまうからだ。
ガザは征服されて王が殺され、
アシュケロンは完全に破壊される。
⁶外国人が、繁栄を誇るペリシテ人の町アシュドデを
占領する。
⁷わたしは、その口から偶像崇拝を引っぱり出し、
歯の間から血といっしょに食べたいけにえを引き出す。
残された者はみな、神を礼拝し、
イスラエル人の新しい一族となる。
エクロンのペリシテ人は、昔のエブス人のように、
ユダヤ人と結婚する。
⁸わたしはイスラエルに侵入する敵を防ぐ見張りのように、
わたしの神殿を囲む。
敵の動きを見張り、近づかせない。
外国の迫害者がわたしの民の地を襲うことは
二度とない。

シオンの王の到来

⁹わたしの民よ、大いに喜べ。
歓声を上げよ。
見よ。おまえたちの王が来る。
その王は正しい方、勝利者だ。
柔和で、ろばの子に乗っている。
¹⁰わたしは、イスラエルにいるわたしの民も含めて、
地上のすべての民の武装を解除する。
この王は諸国に平和をもたらす。
その領土は海から海へ、川から地の果てに及ぶ。
¹¹わたしはおまえを、
水のない穴で死なないように助け出した。
血でサインした、あなたとの契約を守るためだ。
¹²囚人たちよ、安全な場所に来なさい。
まだ希望がある。
味わった苦悩の二倍の祝福を返すと今約束しよう。
¹³ユダよ、おまえはわたしの弓だ。
エフライムよ、おまえはわたしの矢だ。
二人とも、わたしの剣、
ギリシヤ人に向かって勇士が振りかざす剣のようだ。」

主が現れる

¹⁴主は戦っているご自分の民の先頭に立ちます。
その矢は、いなずまのように飛びます。
神である主は召集ラッパを吹き鳴らし、
南から砂漠を通って吹いて来るつむじ風のように、
敵に突進するのです。
¹⁵神の守りがあるので、神の民は敵を制圧し、
踏みにじるでしょう。
彼らは勝利を味わい、勝ちどきを上げます。
敵は殺され、至る所で恐ろしい大虐殺が行われます。
^16-17その日、彼らの神である主は、
羊飼いが羊の世話をするようにご自分の民を救います。
彼らは、王冠にきらめく宝石のように、
神の地で光り輝くのです。
すべてはなんとすばらしく、美しいことでしょう。
あり余る穀物とぶどう酒が、
青年たちをはつらつとさせます。
彼らは健康と幸福に満ちあふれるのです。

Israel Defended Against Enemies

9 The ^[a]burden of the word of the Lord
Against the land of Hadrach,
And ^(A)Damascus its resting place
(For ^(B)the eyes of men
And all the tribes of Israel
Are on the Lord);
²Also against ^(C)Hamath, which borders on it,
And against ^(D)Tyre and ^(E)Sidon, though they are very ^(F)wise.

³For Tyre built herself a tower,
Heaped up silver like the dust,
And gold like the mire of the streets.
⁴Behold, ^(G)the Lord will cast her out;
He will destroy ^(H)her power in the sea,
And she will be devoured by fire.

⁵Ashkelon shall see it and fear;
Gaza also shall be very sorrowful;
And ^(I)Ekron, for He dried up her expectation.
The king shall perish from Gaza,
And Ashkelon shall not be inhabited.

⁶“A^[b] mixed race shall settle ^(J)in Ashdod,
And I will cut off the pride of the ^(K)Philistines.
⁷I will take away the blood from his mouth,
And the abominations from between his teeth.
But he who remains, even he shall be for our God,
And shall be like a leader in Judah,
And Ekron like a Jebusite.
⁸^(L)I will camp around My house
Because of the army,
Because of him who passes by and him who returns.
No more shall an oppressor pass through them,
For now I have seen with My eyes.

The Coming King^(M)

⁹“Rejoice ^(N)greatly, O daughter of Zion!
Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, ^(O)your King is coming to you;
He is just and having salvation,
Lowly and riding on a donkey,
A colt, the foal of a donkey.
¹⁰I ^(P)will cut off the chariot from Ephraim
And the horse from Jerusalem;
The ^(Q)battle bow shall be cut off.
He shall speak peace to the nations;
His dominion shall be ^(R)‘from sea to sea,
And from the River to the ends of the earth.’

God Will Save His People

¹¹“As for you also,
Because of the blood of your covenant,

¹²Return to the stronghold,
^(T)You prisoners of hope.
Even today I declare
That I will restore ^(U)double to you.
¹³For I have bent Judah, My bow,
Fitted the bow with Ephraim,
And raised up your sons, O Zion,
Against your sons, O Greece,
And made you like the sword of a mighty man.”

¹⁴Then the Lord will be seen over them,
And ^(V)His arrow will go forth like lightning.
The Lord God will blow the trumpet,
And go ^(W)with whirlwinds from the south.
¹⁵The Lord of hosts will ^(X)defend them;
They shall devour and subdue with slingstones.
They shall drink and roar as if with wine;
