The Coming King of Zion

⁴ This took place ^(A)to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet, saying,

⁶ The disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them. ⁷ They brought the donkey and the colt and put on them their cloaks, and he sat on them.

Israel's Joy and Restoration

¹³ So they took branches of ^(A)palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, ^(B)“Hosanna! Blessed is ^(C)he who comes in the name of the Lord, even ^(D)the King of Israel!” ¹⁴ And Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written,

^16 (F)His disciples did not understand these things at first, but ^(G)when Jesus was glorified, then ^(H)they remembered that these things had been written about him and had been done to him.

^10 (A)Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion, for ^(B)behold, I come ^(C)and I will dwell in your midst, declares the Lord.

^5 (A)“Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will raise up for David a righteous ^(B)Branch, and ^(C)he shall reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. ⁶ In his days Judah will be saved, and ^(D)Israel will ^(E)dwell securely. And this is the name by which he will be called: ^(F)‘The Lord is our righteousness.’

³⁷ As he was drawing near—already on the way down the Mount of Olives—^(A)the whole multitude of his disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice ^(B)for all the mighty works that they had seen, ³⁸ saying, ^(C)“Blessed is ^(D)the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and ^(E)glory in the highest!”

⁷ And they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks on it, and he sat on it.

³⁰ saying, “Go into the village in front of you, where on entering you will find a colt tied, ^(A)on which no one has ever yet sat. Untie it and bring it here. ³¹ If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ you shall say this: ‘The Lord has need of it.’” ³² So those who were sent went away and found it ^(B)just as he had told them. ³³ And as they were untying the colt, its owners said to them, “Why are you untying the colt?” ³⁴ And they said, “The Lord has need of it.” ³⁵ And they brought it to Jesus, and throwing their cloaks on the colt, they set Jesus on it.
