The Lord Promises to Bless Jerusalem

The word of the Lord Almighty came to me.

This is what the Lord Almighty says: “I am very jealous(A) for Zion; I am burning with jealousy for her.”

This is what the Lord says: “I will return(B) to Zion(C) and dwell in Jerusalem.(D) Then Jerusalem will be called the Faithful City,(E) and the mountain(F) of the Lord Almighty will be called the Holy Mountain.(G)

This is what the Lord Almighty says: “Once again men and women of ripe old age will sit in the streets of Jerusalem,(H) each of them with cane in hand because of their age. The city streets will be filled with boys and girls playing there.(I)

This is what the Lord Almighty says: “It may seem marvelous to the remnant of this people at that time,(J) but will it seem marvelous to me?(K)” declares the Lord Almighty.

This is what the Lord Almighty says: “I will save my people from the countries of the east and the west.(L) I will bring them back(M) to live(N) in Jerusalem; they will be my people,(O) and I will be faithful and righteous to them as their God.(P)

11 My days are like the evening shadow;(A)
    I wither(B) away like grass.

12 But you, Lord, sit enthroned forever;(C)
    your renown endures(D) through all generations.(E)
13 You will arise(F) and have compassion(G) on Zion,
    for it is time(H) to show favor(I) to her;
    the appointed time(J) has come.
14 For her stones are dear to your servants;
    her very dust moves them to pity.
15 The nations will fear(K) the name of the Lord,
    all the kings(L) of the earth will revere your glory.
16 For the Lord will rebuild Zion(M)
    and appear in his glory.(N)
17 He will respond to the prayer(O) of the destitute;
    he will not despise their plea.

18 Let this be written(P) for a future generation,
    that a people not yet created(Q) may praise the Lord:
19 “The Lord looked down(R) from his sanctuary on high,
    from heaven he viewed the earth,
20 to hear the groans of the prisoners(S)
    and release those condemned to death.”
21 So the name of the Lord will be declared(T) in Zion
    and his praise(U) in Jerusalem
22 when the peoples and the kingdoms
    assemble to worship(V) the Lord.

46 An argument started among the disciples as to which of them would be the greatest.(A) 47 Jesus, knowing their thoughts,(B) took a little child and had him stand beside him. 48 Then he said to them, “Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me.(C) For it is the one who is least among you all who is the greatest.”(D)

49 “Master,”(E) said John, “we saw someone driving out demons in your name and we tried to stop him, because he is not one of us.”

50 “Do not stop him,” Jesus said, “for whoever is not against you is for you.”(F)
