Four Chariots

Then I lifted up my eyes again and saw, and behold, (A)four chariots were coming forth from between the two mountains; and the mountains were bronze mountains. With the first chariot were (B)red horses, with the second chariot (C)black horses, with the third chariot (D)white horses, and with the fourth chariot (E)dappled horses—all of them mighty. Then I answered and said to the angel who was speaking with me, “(F)What are these, my lord?” And the angel answered and said to me, “These are the (G)four spirits of heaven, going forth after standing before the Lord of all the earth, with one of which the black horses are going forth to the (H)north country; and the white ones go forth after them, and the dappled ones go forth to the (I)south country. Now the mighty ones went out, and they sought to go to [a](J)patrol the earth.” And He said, “Go, [b]patrol the earth.” So they [c]patrolled the earth. Then He cried out to me and spoke to me saying, “See, those who are going to the land of the north have (K)caused My Spirit to have rest in the land of the north.”

Zechariah’s Eighth Vision

I looked up again,[a] and I saw, and look!—four chariots coming out from between two mountains, and the mountains were mountains of bronze. With the first chariot there were red horses, and with the second chariot there were black horses. And with the third chariot there were white horses, and with the fourth chariot there were strong[b] dappled horses. And I answered and said to the angel that was talking to me, “What are these, my lord?” And the angel answered and said to me, “These are the four winds[c] of the heavens going out after presenting themselves before the Lord of all the earth. The one with[d] the black horses is going out to the north country, and the white horses go after them,[e] while the dappled ones go to the south country.” When the strong horses went out, they were anxious to go to patrol the earth. And he[f] said, “Go, patrol the earth.” And they patrolled the earth. And he cried out to me and said to me, “See those going out to the north country have set my spirit at rest in the north country.”
