Zechariah 2

2 I lifted up mine eyes again, and looked, and behold a man with a measuring line in his hand.

²Then said I, Whither goest thou? And he said unto me, To measure Jerusalem, to see what is the breadth thereof, and what is the length thereof.

³And, behold, the angel that talked with me went forth, and another angel went out to meet him,

⁴And said unto him, Run, speak to this young man, saying, Jerusalem shall be inhabited as towns without walls for the multitude of men and cattle therein:

⁵For I, saith the Lord, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her.

⁶Ho, ho, come forth, and flee from the land of the north, saith the Lord: for I have spread you abroad as the four winds of the heaven, saith the Lord.

⁷Deliver thyself, O Zion, that dwellest with the daughter of Babylon.

⁸For thus saith the Lord of hosts; After the glory hath he sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye.

⁹For, behold, I will shake mine hand upon them, and they shall be a spoil to their servants: and ye shall know that the Lord of hosts hath sent me.

¹⁰Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion: for, lo, I come, and I will dwell in the midst of thee, saith the Lord.

¹¹And many nations shall be joined to the Lord in that day, and shall be my people: and I will dwell in the midst of thee, and thou shalt know that the Lord of hosts hath sent me unto thee.

¹²And the Lord shall inherit Judah his portion in the holy land, and shall choose Jerusalem again.

¹³Be silent, O all flesh, before the Lord: for he is raised up out of his holy habitation.

Vision of the Measuring Line

2 Then I raised my eyes and looked, and behold, ^(A)a man with a measuring line in his hand. ²So I said, “Where are you going?”

And he said to me, ^(B)“To measure Jerusalem, to see what is its width and what is its length.”

³And there was the angel who talked with me, going out; and another angel was coming out to meet him, ⁴who said to him, “Run, speak to this young man, saying: ^(C)‘Jerusalem shall be inhabited as towns without walls, because of the multitude of men and livestock in it. ⁵For I,’ says the Lord, ‘will be ^(D)a wall of fire all around her, ^(E)and I will be the glory in her midst.’ ”

Future Joy of Zion and Many Nations

⁶“Up, up! Flee ^(F)from the land of the north,” says the Lord; “for I have ^(G)spread you abroad like the four winds of heaven,” says the Lord. ⁷“Up, Zion! ^(H)Escape, you who dwell with the daughter of Babylon.”

⁸For thus says the Lord of hosts: “He sent Me after glory, to the nations which plunder you; for he who ^(I)touches you touches the ^[a]apple of His eye. ⁹For surely I will ^(J)shake My hand against them, and they shall become ^[b]spoil for their servants. Then ^(K)you will know that the Lord of hosts has sent Me.

¹⁰^(L)“Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion! For behold, I am coming and I ^(M)will dwell in your midst,” says the Lord. ¹¹^(N)“Many nations shall be joined to the Lord ^(O)in that day, and they shall become ^(P)My people. And I will dwell in your midst. Then ^(Q)you will know that the Lord of hosts has sent Me to you. ¹²And the Lord will ^(R)take possession of Judah as His inheritance in the Holy Land, and will again choose Jerusalem. ¹³^(S)Be silent, all flesh, before the Lord, for He is aroused ^(T)from His holy habitation!”

2 내가 다시 살펴보니 한 사람이 손에 측량줄을 잡고 있었다.

²그래서 내가 “당신은 어디로 가십니까?” 하고 묻자 그는 나에게 “예루살렘을 측량하여 그 폭과 길이가 얼마나 되는지 알아보려고 하오” 하고 대답하였다.

³그때 나에게 말하던 천사가 나가자 다른 천사가 와서 그를 만나

⁴이렇게 말하였다. “너는 측량줄을 잡고 있는 청년에게 달려가서 앞으로 예루살렘은 사람과 짐승이 너무 많아서 성벽 없는 촌락과 같을 것이라고 말하라.

⁵여호와께서는 ‘내가 그 사면에 불담이 되며 그 성의 영광이 되겠다’ 하고 말씀하셨다.”

⁶여호와께서 자기 백성에게 말씀하셨다. “내가 너희를 하늘의 바람처럼 사방 흩어 버렸으나 이제 너희는 북쪽 땅에서 도망하라. 나 여호와가 말한다.

⁷바빌로니아에 사는 시온의 백성들아, 이제 너희는 피하라.

⁸^[a]너희를 치는 자는 나의 눈동자를 치는 자이다.” 그래서 전능하신 여호와께서 나를 보내시며 자기 백성을 약탈한 나라에 대하여 이렇게 말씀하셨다.

⁹“내가 손을 들어 그들을 치겠다. 그들은 자기들을 섬기던 종들에게 약탈을 당할 것이다.” 이런 일이 일어나면 모든 사람이 전능하신 여호와께서 나를 보내신 줄 알게 될 것이다.

¹⁰여호와께서 말씀하셨다. “예루살렘 백성들아, 너희는 노래하며 기뻐하라. 내가 가서 너희 가운데 살겠다.”

¹¹그 때에 많은 나라가 여호와께 돌아와 그의 백성이 될 것이며 그는 그들 가운데 살 것이다. 그러면 그들이 전능하신 여호와께서 나를 보내신 줄 알 것이다.

¹²여호와께서 앞으로 거룩한 땅에서 유다를 자기 소유로 삼으시고 예루살렘을 다시 택할 것이다.

¹³모든 사람들아, 여호와 앞에서 잠잠하라. 여호와께서 그의 거룩한 처소에서 일어나신다.

A Man With a Measuring Line

2 ^[a]Then I looked up, and there before me was a man with a measuring line in his hand. ²I asked, “Where are you going?”

He answered me, “To measure Jerusalem, to find out how wide and how long it is.”^(A)

³While the angel who was speaking to me was leaving, another angel came to meet him ⁴and said to him: “Run, tell that young man, ‘Jerusalem will be a city without walls^(B) because of the great number^(C) of people and animals in it.^(D) ⁵And I myself will be a wall^(E) of fire^(F) around it,’ declares the Lord, ‘and I will be its glory^(G) within.’^(H)

⁶“Come! Come! Flee from the land of the north,” declares the Lord, “for I have scattered^(I) you to the four winds of heaven,”^(J) declares the Lord.^(K)

⁷“Come, Zion! Escape,^(L) you who live in Daughter Babylon!”^(M) ⁸For this is what the Lord Almighty says: “After the Glorious One has sent me against the nations that have plundered you—for whoever touches you touches the apple of his eye^(N)— ⁹I will surely raise my hand against them so that their slaves will plunder them.^[b]^(O) Then you will know that the Lord Almighty has sent me.^(P)

¹⁰“Shout^(Q) and be glad, Daughter Zion.^(R) For I am coming,^(S) and I will live among you,”^(T) declares the Lord.^(U) ¹¹“Many nations will be joined with the Lord in that day and will become my people.^(V) I will live among you and you will know that the Lord Almighty has sent me to you.^(W) ¹²The Lord will inherit^(X) Judah^(Y) as his portion in the holy land and will again choose^(Z) Jerusalem. ¹³Be still^(AA) before the Lord, all mankind, because he has roused himself from his holy dwelling.^(AB)”
