(1:18) Then I looked up and saw four horns. (1:19) I asked the angel who was speaking to me, “What are these?” He answered, “These are the horns that scattered Y’hudah, Isra’el and Yerushalayim.”

(1:20) Next, Adonai showed me four artisans. (1:21) I asked, “What are these coming to do?” He said, “Those horns that scattered Y’hudah so completely that no one could even raise his head — well, these men have come to terrify them, to overthrow the nations that raised their horns against the land of Y’hudah to scatter it.”

(1) I looked up and saw a man with a measuring line in his hand. (2) I asked, “Where are you going?” He said to me, “To measure Yerushalayim, to determine its width and length.”

(3) Here the angel who was speaking to me went forward, and another angel went out, met him (4) and said to him, “Run and tell this young man, ‘Yerushalayim will be inhabited without walls, because there will be so many people and animals; (5) “for,” says Adonai, “I will be for her a wall of fire surrounding her; and I will be the glory within her. 10 (6) Up!” says Adonai, “Move! Flee the land of the north! For I scattered you like the four winds of the sky,” says Adonai. 11 (7) “Move, Tziyon! You who are living with the daughter of Bavel, escape!” 12 (8) For Adonai-Tzva’ot has sent me on a glorious mission to the nations that plundered you, and this is what he says: “Anyone who injures you injures the very pupil of my eye. 13 (9) But I will shake my hand over them, and they will be plundered by those who were formerly their slaves.” Then you will know that Adonai-Tzva’ot sent me. 14 (10) “Sing, daughter of Tziyon; rejoice! For, here, I am coming; and I will live among you,” says Adonai. 15 (11) When that time comes, many nations will join themselves to Adonai. “They will be my people, and I will live among you.” Then you will know that it was Adonai-Tzva’ot who sent me to you. 16 (12) Adonai will take possession of Y’hudah as his portion in the holy land, and he will again make Yerushalayim his choice. 17 (13) Be silent, all humanity, before Adonai; for he has been roused from his holy dwelling.’”

Vision of the Measuring Line

Then I raised my eyes and looked, and behold, (A)a man with a measuring line in his hand. So I said, “Where are you going?”

And he said to me, (B)“To measure Jerusalem, to see what is its width and what is its length.”

And there was the angel who talked with me, going out; and another angel was coming out to meet him, who said to him, “Run, speak to this young man, saying: (C)‘Jerusalem shall be inhabited as towns without walls, because of the multitude of men and livestock in it. For I,’ says the Lord, ‘will be (D)a wall of fire all around her, (E)and I will be the glory in her midst.’ ”

Future Joy of Zion and Many Nations

“Up, up! Flee (F)from the land of the north,” says the Lord; “for I have (G)spread you abroad like the four winds of heaven,” says the Lord. “Up, Zion! (H)Escape, you who dwell with the daughter of Babylon.”

For thus says the Lord of hosts: “He sent Me after glory, to the nations which plunder you; for he who (I)touches you touches the [a]apple of His eye. For surely I will (J)shake My hand against them, and they shall become [b]spoil for their servants. Then (K)you will know that the Lord of hosts has sent Me.

10 (L)“Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion! For behold, I am coming and I (M)will dwell in your midst,” says the Lord. 11 (N)“Many nations shall be joined to the Lord (O)in that day, and they shall become (P)My people. And I will dwell in your midst. Then (Q)you will know that the Lord of hosts has sent Me to you. 12 And the Lord will (R)take possession of Judah as His inheritance in the Holy Land, and will again choose Jerusalem. 13 (S)Be silent, all flesh, before the Lord, for He is aroused (T)from His holy habitation!”

Nin Haysta Xarigga Qiyaasta

Oo anna indhahaygii baan kor u qaaday, oo wax baan fiiriyey, oo waxaan arkay nin gacanta ku haysta xadhig qiyaaseed. Kolkaasaan idhi, War xaggee baad u socotaa? Oo isna wuxuu igu yidhi, Waxaan u socdaa inaan Yeruusaalem soo qiyaaso oo aan soo ogaado intuu ballaadhkeedu yahay, iyo intuu dhererkeedu yahayba. Oo bal eeg, malaggii ila hadlay ayaa baxay, oo malag kale ayaa u baxay inuu isaga ka hor tago. Oo wuxuu ku yidhi isagii, Orod, oo la hadal ninkaas dhallinyarada ah, oo waxaad ku tidhaahdaa, Yeruusaalem waxaa loo degi doonaa sidii tuulooyin aan deyr lahayn, sababtuna waa dadka tirobadnaantiisa iyo xoolaha iyada dhex jooga daraaddood. Waayo, Rabbigu wuxuu leeyahay, Anigu waxaan iyada u noqon doonaa deyr dab ah oo iyada ku wareegsan, oo waxaan iyada u noqon doonaa ammaanta dhexdeeda joogta. Rabbigu wuxuu leeyahay, Warroy dalka woqooyi ka carara, waayo, Rabbigu wuxuu leeyahay, Anigu waxaan idiin kala firdhiyey sida afarta dabaylood oo samada. Siyoonay, tan dadka Baabuloon la joogtoy, baxso. Waayo, Rabbiga ciidammadu wuxuu leeyahay, Ammaan dabadeed wuxuu ii soo diray quruumihii adiga ku dhacay, waayo, kii ku taabto wuxuu taabtaa ishiisa inankeeda. Waayo, bal eega, Gacantayda ayaan iyaga ku kor ruxruxi doonaa, oo iyana waxay booli u noqon doonaan kuwii iyaga u adeegi jiray, oo idinna waxaad ogaan doontaan in Rabbiga ciidammadu i soo diray. 10 Magaalada Siyoonay, gabay oo reyree, waayo, Rabbigu wuxuu leeyahay, Bal eeg, anigu waan imanayaa oo dhexdaadaan degganaan doonaa. 11 Oo wakhtigaas quruumo badan ayaa Rabbiga isugu darmi doona, oo dadkaygay noqon doonaan, oo dhexdaadaan degganaan doonaa, oo adna waxaad ogaan doontaa in Rabbiga ciidammadii ii soo kaa diray. 12 Oo Rabbiguna dadka dalka Yahuudah wuu dhaxli doonaa iyagoo qaybtiisa ku ah dalka quduuska ah, oo weliba Yeruusaalem buu dooran doonaa. 13 Binu-aadmiga oo dhammow, Rabbiga hortiisa ku aamusa, waayo, isagu waa ka soo kacay hoygiisii quduuska ahaa.

A Man With a Measuring Line

[a]Then I looked up, and there before me was a man with a measuring line in his hand. I asked, “Where are you going?”

He answered me, “To measure Jerusalem, to find out how wide and how long it is.”(A)

While the angel who was speaking to me was leaving, another angel came to meet him and said to him: “Run, tell that young man, ‘Jerusalem will be a city without walls(B) because of the great number(C) of people and animals in it.(D) And I myself will be a wall(E) of fire(F) around it,’ declares the Lord, ‘and I will be its glory(G) within.’(H)

“Come! Come! Flee from the land of the north,” declares the Lord, “for I have scattered(I) you to the four winds of heaven,”(J) declares the Lord.(K)

“Come, Zion! Escape,(L) you who live in Daughter Babylon!”(M) For this is what the Lord Almighty says: “After the Glorious One has sent me against the nations that have plundered you—for whoever touches you touches the apple of his eye(N) I will surely raise my hand against them so that their slaves will plunder them.[b](O) Then you will know that the Lord Almighty has sent me.(P)

10 “Shout(Q) and be glad, Daughter Zion.(R) For I am coming,(S) and I will live among you,”(T) declares the Lord.(U) 11 “Many nations will be joined with the Lord in that day and will become my people.(V) I will live among you and you will know that the Lord Almighty has sent me to you.(W) 12 The Lord will inherit(X) Judah(Y) as his portion in the holy land and will again choose(Z) Jerusalem. 13 Be still(AA) before the Lord, all mankind, because he has roused himself from his holy dwelling.(AB)

  2. Zechariah 2:9 Or says after … eye: “I … plunder them.”

I lifted up mine eyes again, and looked, and behold a man with a measuring line in his hand.

Then said I, Whither goest thou? And he said unto me, To measure Jerusalem, to see what is the breadth thereof, and what is the length thereof.

And, behold, the angel that talked with me went forth, and another angel went out to meet him,

And said unto him, Run, speak to this young man, saying, Jerusalem shall be inhabited as towns without walls for the multitude of men and cattle therein:

For I, saith the Lord, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her.

Ho, ho, come forth, and flee from the land of the north, saith the Lord: for I have spread you abroad as the four winds of the heaven, saith the Lord.

Deliver thyself, O Zion, that dwellest with the daughter of Babylon.

For thus saith the Lord of hosts; After the glory hath he sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye.

For, behold, I will shake mine hand upon them, and they shall be a spoil to their servants: and ye shall know that the Lord of hosts hath sent me.

10 Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion: for, lo, I come, and I will dwell in the midst of thee, saith the Lord.

11 And many nations shall be joined to the Lord in that day, and shall be my people: and I will dwell in the midst of thee, and thou shalt know that the Lord of hosts hath sent me unto thee.

12 And the Lord shall inherit Judah his portion in the holy land, and shall choose Jerusalem again.

13 Be silent, O all flesh, before the Lord: for he is raised up out of his holy habitation.
