^12 (A)A third part of you shall die of pestilence and be consumed with famine in your midst; ^(B)a third part shall fall by the sword all around you; ^(C)and a third part I will scatter to all the winds and will unsheathe the sword after them.

^19 (A)The great city ^(B)was split into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell, and God ^(C)remembered ^(D)Babylon the great, ^(E)to make her drain the cup of the wine of the fury of his wrath.

^2 (A)A third part you shall burn in the fire ^(B)in the midst of the city, ^(C)when the days of the siege are completed. And a third part you shall take and strike with the sword all around the city. ^(D)And a third part you shall scatter to the wind, and ^(E)I will unsheathe the sword after them. ^3 (F)And you shall take from these a small number and bind them in the skirts of your robe. ^4 (G)And of these again you shall take some and cast them into the midst of the fire and burn them in the fire. From there a fire will come out into all the house of Israel.

The Great Day of the Lord

4 ^[a] “For behold, ^(A)the day is coming, ^(B)burning like an oven, when ^(C)all the arrogant and ^(D)all evildoers ^(E)will be stubble. The day that is coming ^(F)shall set them ablaze, says the Lord of hosts, so that it will leave them neither root nor branch. ² But for you ^(G)who fear my name, ^(H)the sun ^(I)of righteousness shall rise ^(J)with healing in its wings. You shall go out ^(K)leaping like calves from the stall. ³ And you shall tread down the wicked, for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet, ^(L)on the day when I act, says the Lord of hosts.

⁷ The first angel blew his trumpet, and there followed ^(A)hail and ^(B)fire, mixed with blood, and these were thrown upon the earth. And a ^(C)third of the earth was burned up, and a third of ^(D)the trees were burned up, and all green grass was burned up.

⁸ The second angel blew his trumpet, and something like ^(E)a great mountain, burning with fire, was thrown into the sea, and a third of the sea ^(F)became blood. ⁹ A third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of ^(G)the ships were destroyed.

¹⁰ The third angel blew his trumpet, and ^(H)a great star fell from heaven, blazing like a torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on ^(I)the springs of water. ¹¹ The name of the star is Wormwood.^[a] A third of the waters ^(J)became wormwood, and many people died from the water, ^(K)because it had been made bitter.

¹² The fourth angel blew his trumpet, and a third of ^(L)the sun was struck, and a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of their light might be darkened, and a third of the day might be kept from shining, and likewise a third of the night.

^15 (A)who killed both the Lord Jesus and ^(B)the prophets, and drove us out, and displease God and ^(C)oppose all mankind ^16 (D)by hindering us from speaking to the Gentiles that they might be saved—so as always ^(E)to fill up the measure of their sins. But ^(F)wrath has come upon them at last!^[a]

²⁸ But turning to them Jesus said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. ²⁹ For behold, ^(A)the days are coming when they will say, ^(B)‘Blessed are the barren and the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!’ ^30 (C)Then they will begin to say to the mountains, ‘Fall on us,’ and to the hills, ‘Cover us.’

²¹ For then there will be ^(A)great tribulation, ^(B)such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be. ²² And if those days had not been cut short, no human being would be saved. But for ^(C)the sake of the elect those days will be cut short.
