9 And (A)the kings of the earth, who committed sexual immorality and lived in luxury with her, (B)will weep and wail over her (C)when they see the smoke of her burning. 10 (D)They will stand far off, in fear of her torment, and say,
“Alas! Alas! (E)You great city,
you mighty city, Babylon!
For (F)in a single hour your judgment has come.”
11 And (G)the merchants of the earth weep and mourn for her, since no one buys their cargo anymore, 12 cargo of gold, silver, jewels, pearls, fine linen, purple cloth, silk, scarlet cloth, all kinds of scented wood, all kinds of articles of ivory, all kinds of articles of costly wood, bronze, iron and marble, 13 cinnamon, spice, incense, myrrh, frankincense, wine, oil, fine flour, wheat, cattle and sheep, horses and chariots, and slaves, that is, human souls.[a]
14 “The fruit for which your soul longed

15 (H)The merchants of these wares, who gained wealth from her, (I)will stand far off, in fear of her torment, weeping and mourning aloud,

17 For (K)in a single hour all this wealth (L)has been laid waste.”

5 Woe to (B)you inhabitants of the seacoast,

(D)The word of the Lord is against you,

and I will destroy you (F)until no inhabitant is left.
6 (G)And you, O seacoast, (H)shall be pastures,

7 (I)The seacoast shall become the possession

they shall lie down at evening.
For the Lord their God (L)will be mindful of them

19 “For thus says the Lord God: When I make you a city laid waste, like the cities that are not inhabited, (K)when I bring up the deep over you, and the great waters cover you, 20 then (L)I will make you go down with those who go down to the pit, to the people of old, and I will make you to dwell in the world below, among ruins from of old, (M)with those who go down to the pit, so that you will not be inhabited; but I will set beauty (N)in the land of the living. 21 I will bring you (O)to a dreadful end, and you shall be no more.
