Zechariah 7:4-7
New Living Translation
4 The Lord of Heaven’s Armies sent me this message in reply: 5 “Say to all your people and your priests, ‘During these seventy years of exile, when you fasted and mourned in the summer and in early autumn,[a] was it really for me that you were fasting? 6 And even now in your holy festivals, aren’t you eating and drinking just to please yourselves? 7 Isn’t this the same message the Lord proclaimed through the prophets in years past when Jerusalem and the towns of Judah were bustling with people, and the Negev and the foothills of Judah[b] were well populated?’”

- 7:5 Hebrew fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh months. The fifth month of the ancient Hebrew lunar calendar usually occurs within the months of July and August. The seventh month usually occurs within the months of September and October; both the Day of Atonement and the Festival of Shelters were celebrated in the seventh month.

4 Then the word of the Lord of hosts came to me: 5 “Say to all the people of the land and the priests, ‘When you fasted and mourned in (A)the fifth month and in (B)the seventh, for these (C)seventy years, (D)was it (E)for me that you fasted? 6 (F)And when you eat and when you drink, do you not eat for yourselves and drink for yourselves? 7 (G)Were not these the words that the Lord proclaimed (H)by the former prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and prosperous, (I)with her cities around her, and the (J)South and the (K)lowland were inhabited?’”
