⁸ Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.^{(A) 9} This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son^(B) into the world that we might live through him.^{(C) 10} This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us^(D) and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.^{(E) 11} Dear friends,^(F) since God so loved us,^(G) we also ought to love one another.^(H)

⁴ But when the kindness^(A) and love of God our Savior^(B) appeared,^{(C) 5} he saved us,^(D) not because of righteous things we had done,^(E) but because of his mercy.^(F) He saved us through the washing^(G) of rebirth and renewal^(H) by the Holy Spirit, ⁶ whom he poured out on us^(I) generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, ⁷ so that, having been justified by his grace,^(J) we might become heirs^(K) having the hope^(L) of eternal life.^(M)

¹² In a loud voice they were saying:

¹³ Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth^(D) and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying:

¹⁴ The four living creatures^(H) said, “Amen,”^(I) and the elders^(J) fell down and worshiped.^(K)
