⁹ “The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall also complete it. Then you will know that the Lord of hosts has sent me to you.^(A)

¹⁴ So the elders of the Jews built and prospered, through the prophesying of the prophet Haggai and Zechariah son of Iddo. They finished their building by command of the God of Israel and by decree of Cyrus, Darius, and King Artaxerxes of Persia,^{(A) 15} and this house was finished on the third day of the month of Adar, in the sixth year of the reign of King Darius.

¹² say to him: Thus says the Lord of hosts: Here is a man whose name is Branch, for he shall branch out in his place, and he shall build the temple of the Lord.^{(A) 13} It is he who shall build the temple of the Lord; he shall bear royal honor and shall sit upon his throne and rule. There shall be a priest by his throne, with peaceful understanding between the two of them.^(B)

¹⁶ Then this Sheshbazzar came and laid the foundations of the house of God in Jerusalem, and from that time until now it has been under construction, and it is not yet finished.’^(A)

² looking to Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith, who for the sake of^[a] the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God.^(A)

²¹ that they may all be one. As you, Father, are in me and I am in you, may they also be in us,^[a] so that the world may believe that you have sent me.^(A)

¹⁶ Yet even if I do judge, my judgment is valid, for it is not I alone who judge but I and the Father^[a] who sent me. ¹⁷ In your law it is written that the testimony of two witnesses is valid.^{(A) 18} I testify on my own behalf, and the Father who sent me testifies on my behalf.”^(B)

³⁶ But I have a testimony greater than John’s. The works that the Father has given me to complete, the very works that I am doing, testify on my behalf that the Father has sent me.^{(A) 37} And the Father who sent me has himself testified on my behalf. You have never heard his voice or seen his form,^(B)

¹⁷ “Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world but in order that the world might be saved through him.^(A)

¹⁸ And I tell you, you are Peter,^[a] and on this rock^[b] I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it.^(A)
