And fight against those nations,
As He fights in the day of battle.

(A)Proclaim this among the nations:
“Prepare for war!
Wake up the mighty men,
Let all the men of war draw near,
Let them come up.
10 (B)Beat your plowshares into swords
And your [a]pruning hooks into spears;
(C)Let the weak say, ‘I am strong.’ ”
11 Assemble and come, all you nations,
And gather together all around.
Cause (D)Your mighty ones to go down there, O Lord.

12 “Let the nations be wakened, and come up to the Valley of Jehoshaphat;
For there I will sit to (E)judge all the surrounding nations.
13 (F)Put in the sickle, for (G)the harvest is ripe.
Come, go down;
For the (H)winepress is full,
The vats overflow—
For their wickedness is great.”

14 Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision!
For (I)the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decision.
15 The sun and moon will grow dark,
And the stars will diminish their brightness.
16 The Lord also will roar from Zion,
And utter His voice from Jerusalem;
The heavens and earth will shake;
(J)But the Lord will be a shelter for His people,
And the strength of the children of Israel.

17 “So you shall know that I am the Lord your God,
Dwelling in Zion My (K)holy mountain.
Then Jerusalem shall be holy,
And no aliens shall ever pass through her again.”

First Trumpet: Vegetation Struck

The first angel sounded: (A)And hail and fire followed, mingled with blood, and they were thrown (B)to the [a]earth. And a third (C)of the trees were burned up, and all green grass was burned up.

Second Trumpet: The Seas Struck

Then the second angel sounded: (D)And something like a great mountain burning with fire was thrown into the sea, (E)and a third of the sea (F)became blood. (G)And a third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed.

Third Trumpet: The Waters Struck

10 Then the third angel sounded: (H)And a great star fell from heaven, burning like a torch, (I)and it fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water. 11 (J)The name of the star is Wormwood. (K)A third of the waters became wormwood, and many men died from the water, because it was made bitter.

Fourth Trumpet: The Heavens Struck

12 (L)Then the fourth angel sounded: And a third of the sun was struck, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of them were darkened. A third of the day [b]did not shine, and likewise the night.

13 And I looked, (M)and I heard an [c]angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice, (N)“Woe, woe, woe to the inhabitants of the earth, because of the remaining blasts of the trumpet of the three angels who are about to sound!”

(A)Another horse, fiery red, went out. And it was granted to the one who sat on it to (B)take peace from the earth, and that people should kill one another; and there was given to him a great sword.

Third Seal: Scarcity on Earth

When He opened the third seal, (C)I heard the third living creature say, “Come and see.” So I looked, and behold, (D)a black horse, and he who sat on it had a pair of (E)scales[a] in his hand. And I heard a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, “A [b]quart of wheat for a [c]denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and (F)do not harm the oil and the wine.”

Fourth Seal: Widespread Death on Earth

When He opened the fourth seal, (G)I heard the voice of the fourth living creature saying, “Come and see.” (H)So I looked, and behold, a pale horse. And the name of him who sat on it was Death, and Hades followed with him. And [d]power was given to them over a fourth of the earth, (I)to kill with sword, with hunger, with death, (J)and by the beasts of the earth.

Fifth Seal: The Cry of the Martyrs

When He opened the fifth seal, I saw under (K)the altar (L)the souls of those who had been slain (M)for the word of God and for (N)the testimony which they held. 10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, (O)“How long, O Lord, (P)holy and true, (Q)until You judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?” 11 Then a (R)white robe was given to each of them; and it was said to them (S)that they should rest a little while longer, until both the number of their fellow servants and their brethren, who would be killed as they were, was completed.

Sixth Seal: Cosmic Disturbances

12 I looked when He opened the sixth seal, (T)and [e]behold, there was a great earthquake; and (U)the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the [f]moon became like blood. 13 (V)And the stars of heaven fell to the earth, as a fig tree drops its late figs when it is shaken by a mighty wind. 14 (W)Then the sky [g]receded as a scroll when it is rolled up, and (X)every mountain and island was moved out of its place. 15 And the (Y)kings of the earth, the great men, [h]the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave and every free man, (Z)hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains, 16 (AA)and said to the mountains and rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who (AB)sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! 17 For the great day of His wrath has come, (AC)and who is able to stand?”

The Lord in Judgment and Salvation

63 Who is this who comes from Edom,
With dyed garments from Bozrah,
This One who is [a]glorious in His apparel,
Traveling in the greatness of His strength?—

“I who speak in righteousness, mighty to save.”

Why (A)is Your apparel red,
And Your garments like one who treads in the winepress?

“I have (B)trodden the winepress alone,
And from the peoples no one was with Me.
For I have trodden them in My anger,
And trampled them in My fury;
Their blood is sprinkled upon My garments,
And I have stained all My robes.
For the (C)day of vengeance is in My heart,
And the year of My redeemed has come.
(D)I looked, but (E)there was no one to help,
And I wondered
That there was no one to uphold;
Therefore My own (F)arm brought salvation for Me;
And My own fury, it sustained Me.
I have trodden down the peoples in My anger,
Made them drunk in My fury,
And brought down their strength to the earth.”
