⁸ I ^[a]dismissed the three shepherds ^(A)in one month. My soul loathed them, and their soul also abhorred me.

The World’s Hatred

^18 (A)“If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you.

^7 (A)The world cannot hate you, but it hates Me ^(B)because I testify of it that its works are evil.

^34 (A)Therefore, indeed, I send you prophets, wise men, and scribes: ^(B)some of them you will kill and crucify, and ^(C)some of them you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city, ^35 (D)that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, ^(E)from the blood of righteous Abel to ^(F)the blood of Zechariah, son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Assuredly, I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation.

^14 (A)But his citizens hated him, and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We will not have this man to reign over us.’

^23 (A)He who hates Me hates My Father also. ²⁴ If I had not done among them ^(B)the works which no one else did, they would have no sin; but now they have ^(C)seen and also hated both Me and My Father. ²⁵ But this happened that the word might be fulfilled which is written in their law, ^(D)‘They hated Me without a cause.’
