⁷ “I also withheld^(A) rain from you
    when the harvest was still three months away.
I sent rain on one town,
    but withheld it from another.^(B)
One field had rain;
    another had none and dried up.
⁸ People staggered from town to town for water^(C)
    but did not get enough^(D) to drink,
    yet you have not returned^(E) to me,”
declares the Lord.^(F)

⁴ The ground is cracked
    because there is no rain in the land;^(A)
the farmers are dismayed
    and cover their heads.

¹² For the nation or kingdom that will not serve^(A) you will perish;
    it will be utterly ruined.^(B)
