Chamado para voltar ao Senhor
1 Em novembro[a] do segundo ano do reinado de Dario, o Senhor deu esta mensagem ao profeta Zacarias, filho de Berequias, neto de Ido:
2 “Eu, o Senhor, fiquei extremamente irado com seus antepassados. 3 Portanto, diga ao povo: ‘Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos: Voltem-se para mim, e eu me voltarei para vocês, diz o Senhor dos Exércitos’. 4 Não sejam como seus antepassados, que não quiseram ouvir nem deram atenção quando os antigos profetas lhes disseram: ‘Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos: Deixem seus caminhos maus e abandonem suas práticas perversas’.
5 “Onde estão agora seus antepassados? Morreram há muito tempo, assim como os profetas. 6 Mas tudo que eu disse e ordenei por meio de meus servos, os profetas, aconteceu a seus antepassados. Por isso, eles se arrependeram e disseram: ‘Recebemos do Senhor dos Exércitos o que merecíamos. Ele fez o que havia prometido’”.
Um homem entre as murtas
7 Três meses depois, no dia 15 de fevereiro,[b] o Senhor deu outra mensagem ao profeta Zacarias, filho de Berequias, neto de Ido.
8 Numa visão durante a noite, vi um homem montado num cavalo vermelho, parado entre algumas murtas num desfiladeiro. Atrás dele, havia cavaleiros montados em cavalos vermelhos, marrons e brancos. 9 Perguntei ao anjo que falava comigo: “Meu senhor, o que significam estes cavalos?”.
“Eu lhe mostrarei”, o anjo respondeu.
10 O cavaleiro que estava entre as murtas explicou: “Eles são aqueles que o Senhor enviou para percorrer a terra”.
11 Então os outros cavaleiros disseram ao anjo do Senhor, que estava entre as murtas: “Percorremos toda a terra, e ela está em paz”.
12 Quando o anjo do Senhor ouviu isso, disse: “Ó Senhor dos Exércitos, durante estes setenta anos tens estado irado com Jerusalém e as cidades de Judá. Quanto tempo levará para voltares a ter compaixão delas?”. 13 E, ao anjo que falava comigo, o Senhor respondeu com palavras boas e consoladoras.
14 Então o anjo me disse: “Proclame esta mensagem: ‘Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos: Tenho grande zelo por Jerusalém e pelo monte Sião, 15 mas estou extremamente irado com as outras nações que agora vivem tranquilas. Eu estava apenas um pouco irado com meu povo, mas as nações fizeram que ele sofresse muito.
16 “‘Portanto, assim diz o Senhor: Voltei a mostrar compaixão por Jerusalém. Meu templo será reconstruído, diz o Senhor dos Exércitos, e serão tiradas medidas para a reconstrução de Jerusalém’.[c]
17 “Diga também: ‘Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos: As cidades de Israel voltarão a transbordar de prosperidade, e o Senhor voltará a consolar Sião e escolherá Jerusalém para si’”.
Quatro chifres e quatro ferreiros
18 [d]Então levantei os olhos e vi quatro chifres de animais. 19 “O que significam estes chifres?”, perguntei ao anjo que falava comigo.
Ele respondeu: “Estes chifres representam as nações que dispersaram Judá, Israel e Jerusalém”.
20 Então o Senhor me mostrou quatro ferreiros. 21 “O que estes homens vieram fazer?”, perguntei.
O anjo respondeu: “Os quatro chifres são as nações que dispersaram e humilharam Judá. Agora, os ferreiros vieram para aterrorizar, derrubar e destruir essas nações”.

A Call to Return to the Lord
1 In the eighth month, (A)in the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came to the prophet (B)Zechariah, the son of (C)Berechiah, son of (D)Iddo, saying, 2 (E)“The Lord was very angry with your fathers. 3 Therefore say to them, Thus declares the Lord of hosts: (F)Return to me, says the Lord of hosts, and (G)I will return to you, says the Lord of hosts. 4 (H)Do not be like your fathers, (I)to whom the former prophets cried out, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, (J)Return from your evil ways and from your evil deeds.’ But (K)they did not hear or pay attention to me, declares the Lord. 5 Your fathers, where are they? And (L)the prophets, do they live forever? 6 (M)But my words and my statutes, which I commanded (N)my servants the prophets, did they not (O)overtake your fathers? So they repented and said, (P)‘As the Lord of hosts purposed to deal with us for (Q)our ways and (R)deeds, so has he dealt with us.’”
A Vision of a Horseman
7 On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, which is the month of Shebat, in the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came to the prophet (S)Zechariah, the son of (T)Berechiah, son of (U)Iddo, saying, 8 “I saw in the night, and behold, (V)a man riding on a red horse! He was standing among the myrtle trees in the glen, and behind him were (W)red, sorrel, and white horses. 9 Then I said, ‘What are these, my lord?’ (X)The angel who talked with me said to me, ‘I will show you what they are.’ 10 So (Y)the man who was standing among the myrtle trees answered, (Z)‘These are they whom the Lord has sent to (AA)patrol the earth.’ 11 And they answered (AB)the angel of the Lord who was standing among the myrtle trees, and said, (AC)‘We have patrolled the earth, and behold, all the earth (AD)remains at rest.’ 12 Then (AE)the angel of the Lord said, (AF)‘O Lord of hosts, (AG)how long will you (AH)have no mercy on Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, against which you have been angry these (AI)seventy years?’ 13 And the Lord answered (AJ)gracious and comforting words to (AK)the angel who talked with me. 14 So (AL)the angel who talked with me said to me, ‘Cry out, Thus says the Lord of hosts: (AM)I am exceedingly jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion. 15 (AN)And I am exceedingly angry with the nations that are (AO)at ease; (AP)for while I was angry but a little, (AQ)they furthered the disaster. 16 Therefore, thus says the Lord, (AR)I have returned to Jerusalem with mercy; (AS)my house shall be built in it, declares the Lord of hosts, and (AT)the measuring line shall be stretched out over Jerusalem. 17 Cry out again, Thus says the Lord of hosts: (AU)My cities shall again overflow with prosperity, (AV)and the Lord will again comfort Zion and again (AW)choose Jerusalem.’”
A Vision of Horns and Craftsmen
18 [a] And I lifted my eyes and saw, and behold, (AX)four horns! 19 And I said to (AY)the angel who talked with me, “What are these?” And he said to me, (AZ)“These are the horns that have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.” 20 Then the Lord showed me four craftsmen. 21 And I said, “What are these coming to do?” He said, (BA)“These are the horns that scattered Judah, so that no one raised his head. And these have come (BB)to terrify them, to cast down the horns of the nations (BC)who lifted up their horns against the land of Judah to scatter it.”

First Vision: The Horsemen

He was standing among the myrtle trees in the glen; and behind him were red, sorrel, and white horses. 9 Then I said, ‘What are these, my lord?’ The angel who talked with me said to me, ‘I will show you what they are.’ 10 So the man who was standing among the myrtle trees answered, ‘These are they whom the Lord has sent to patrol the earth.’ 11 And they answered the angel of the Lord who was standing among the myrtle trees, ‘We have patrolled the earth, and behold, all the earth remains at rest.’ 12 Then the angel of the Lord said, ‘O Lord of hosts, how long wilt thou have no mercy on Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, against which thou hast had indignation these seventy years?’ 13 And the Lord answered gracious and comforting words to the angel who talked with me. 14 So the angel who talked with me said to me, ‘Cry out, Thus says the Lord of hosts: I am exceedingly jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion. 15 And I am very angry with the nations that are at ease; for while I was angry but a little they furthered the disaster. 16 Therefore, thus says the Lord, I have returned to Jerusalem with compassion; my house shall be built in it, says the Lord of hosts, and the measuring line shall be stretched out over Jerusalem. 17 Cry again, Thus says the Lord of hosts: My cities shall again overflow with prosperity, and the Lord will again comfort Zion and again choose Jerusalem.’”
Second Vision: The Horns and the Smiths
18 [a] And I lifted my eyes and saw, and behold, four horns! 19 And I said to the angel who talked with me, “What are these?” And he answered me, “These are the horns which have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.” 20 Then the Lord showed me four smiths. 21 And I said, “What are these coming to do?” He answered, “These are the horns which scattered Judah, so that no man raised his head; and these have come to terrify them, to cast down the horns of the nations who lifted up their horns against the land of Judah to scatter it.”
