18 These things having said, Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach went out with his talmidim across the Kidron Valley, [SHMUEL BAIS 15:23] where there was a Gahn (Garden) into which Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach entered with his talmidim.
2 Now also Yehuda from K’riot, the one betraying Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, had da’as of the place, because often Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach gathered there with his talmidim.
3 Then, Yehuda from K’riot, having taken the band of chaiyalim (soldiers) and avadim of the Rashei Hakohanim and of the Perushim, comes there with torches and lamps and weapons.
4 Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, therefore, having had da’as of everything coming upon him, went out and says to them, Whom do you seek?
5 They said in reply, Yehoshua, the one from Natzeret. Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach says to them, Ani Hu. Now also Yehuda, the one betraying him, had stood with them.
6 When therefore Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach told them, Ani Hu, they recoiled and fell to the ground.
7 Therefore, again he questioned them, Whom do you seek? And they said, Yehoshua, the one from Natzeret.
8 In reply, Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach said, I told you that Ani Hu. If therefore you seek me, let these Bnei Adam go away,
9 That may be fulfilled the dvar which said, Those whom You have given me, I did not lose any one of them. [Yn 17:12; 10:11]
10 Then Shimon Kefa, having a cherev (sword), drew it and struck the eved of the Kohen Gadol and cut off his right ear. The name of the eved was Malchus.
11 Therefore, Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach said to Kefa, Put the cherev into the sheath. The kos which HaAv of me has given me, should I not drink it?
12 Then the band of chaiyalim, their commander, and the avadim (officials) of Yehudah took him and performed the akedah (binding) on him.
13 First they led him to Anan (Annas), for he was khoten (father-in-law) of Caiapha, who was Kohen Gadol that year.
14 Now Caiapha was the one having given counsel to those of Yehudah that it is a bedievedike thing (expedient) for one man to die for HaAm.
15 Now Shimon Kefa and another talmid were following Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach. And that other talmid was known to the Kohen Gadol, and that other talmid entered with Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach into the court of the Kohen Gadol.
16 But Kefa had stood at the sha’ar outside. Therefore, the other talmid went out, the one known to the Kohen Gadol, and spoke to the gatekeeper and brought in Kefa.
17 Therefore, the maid says to Kefa, Surely you are not also of this man’s talmidim? He said, I am not.
18 And the avadim and the mesharetim had made a hadlakah (bonfire), because it was cold, and they were standing around the hadlakah warming themselves. And also Kefa was with them, standing and warming himself.
19 Then the Kohen Gadol interrogated Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach about his talmidim and his torah (teaching).
20 In reply, he said, In public I have spoken to the Olam Hazeh; I always taught in the Beit Haknesset and in the Beis Hamikdash, where all the Yehudim come together. Besod (in secret) I spoke nothing. [YESHAYAH 45:19]
21 Why do you put a she’elah (question) to me? Put a she’elah to the ones having heard what I spoke to them. Hinei, these ones have da’as of what things I said.
22 But these things having said, one of the mesharetim, one standing nearby, struck Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, saying, Is this the way to answer the Kohen Gadol? [SHEMOT 22:27]
23 In reply, he spoke, If I spoke wrongly, give edut (testimony) about the wrong; but if tov, why do you strike me?
24 Then Anan sent him, still in the akedah, to Caiapha the Kohen Gadol.
25 Now with Shimon Kefa still standing and warming himself, they said, therefore, to him, Surely you are not also of his talmidim, are you? In reply, he said, I am not.
26 One of the avadim of the Kohen Gadol, one who was a relative of him, one whose ear Kefa cut off, says, Did I not see you in the Gahn (Garden) with him?
27 Therefore, again Kefa made hakhchashah (denial). And immediately a tarnegol (cock) crowed.
28 Therefore, they led Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach from Caiapha to the Praetorium. And it was early. They themselves did not enter into the Praetorium so as not to become tema’im (unclean) and so as to be able to eat the Pesach.
29 Pilate went forth outside to them and says, What sitnah (accusation, indictment) do you bring against this man?
30 In reply, they said to him, If this man were not an evil-doer, we would not have handed him over to you.
31 Therefore, Pilate said to them, Take him and judge him according to your Torah. Those of Yehudah said to him, It is not lawful for us to kill anyone.
32 (This was to fulfill the dvar of Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach which he said, signifying by what mavet he was about to die).
33 Therefore, Pilate again entered into the Praetorium and called Yehoshua, and said to him, Are you HaMelech HaYehudim?
34 In reply, Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach asked, From yourself you say this or another told you about me?
35 In reply, Pilate said, Am I a Yehudi? Your nation and your Kohen Gadol handed you over to me. What did you do?
36 In reply, Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach said, My Malchut is not of the Olam Hazeh. If my Malchut were of the Olam Hazeh, my mesharetim would have fought, that I should not be delivered to those of Yehudah; but now my Malchut is not from here.
37 Therefore, Pilate said to him, So you are a Melech (King)? In reply, he said, You say that I am a Melech. For this I have been born and for this I have come into the Olam Hazeh, that I might bear solemn edut (testimony) to HaEmes. Everyone who is of HaEmes hears my voice.
38 Pilate says to Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, What is HaEmes? And having said this, again Pilate went out to those of Yehudah, and says to them, I find no avon (offense), no cause for punishment, in him.
39 But there is a minhag (custom) for you, that I may release one to you during the Pesach. Do you want, therefore, that I release to you the Melech HaYehudim?
40 Therefore, they cried out again, saying, Not this man but Bar-Abba. Now Bar-Abba was a shoded (robber) [Yn 10:1; Mk. 15:7].

18 Lorsqu'il eut dit ces choses, Jésus alla avec ses disciples de l'autre côté du torrent du Cédron, où se trouvait un jardin, dans lequel il entra, lui et ses disciples.
2 Judas, qui le livrait, connaissait ce lieu, parce que Jésus et ses disciples s'y étaient souvent réunis.
3 Judas donc, ayant pris la cohorte, et des huissiers qu'envoyèrent les principaux sacrificateurs et les pharisiens, vint là avec des lanternes, des flambeaux et des armes.
4 Jésus, sachant tout ce qui devait lui arriver, s'avança, et leur dit: Qui cherchez-vous?
5 Ils lui répondirent: Jésus de Nazareth. Jésus leur dit: C'est moi. Et Judas, qui le livrait, était avec eux.
6 Lorsque Jésus leur eut dit: C'est moi, ils reculèrent et tombèrent par terre.
7 Il leur demanda de nouveau: Qui cherchez-vous? Et ils dirent: Jésus de Nazareth.
8 Jésus répondit: Je vous ai dit que c'est moi. Si donc c'est moi que vous cherchez, laissez aller ceux-ci.
9 Il dit cela, afin que s'accomplît la parole qu'il avait dite: Je n'ai perdu aucun de ceux que tu m'as donnés.
10 Simon Pierre, qui avait une épée, la tira, frappa le serviteur du souverain sacrificateur, et lui coupa l'oreille droite. Ce serviteur s'appelait Malchus.
11 Jésus dit à Pierre: Remets ton épée dans le fourreau. Ne boirai-je pas la coupe que le Père m'a donnée à boire?
12 La cohorte, le tribun, et les huissiers des Juifs, se saisirent alors de Jésus, et le lièrent.
13 Ils l'emmenèrent d'abord chez Anne; car il était le beau-père de Caïphe, qui était souverain sacrificateur cette année-là.
14 Et Caïphe était celui qui avait donné ce conseil aux Juifs: Il est avantageux qu'un seul homme meure pour le peuple.
15 Simon Pierre, avec un autre disciple, suivait Jésus. Ce disciple était connu du souverain sacrificateur, et il entra avec Jésus dans la cour du souverain sacrificateur;
16 mais Pierre resta dehors près de la porte. L'autre disciple, qui était connu du souverain sacrificateur, sortit, parla à la portière, et fit entrer Pierre.
17 Alors la servante, la portière, dit à Pierre: Toi aussi, n'es-tu pas des disciples de cet homme? Il dit: Je n'en suis point.
18 Les serviteurs et les huissiers, qui étaient là, avaient allumé un brasier, car il faisait froid, et ils se chauffaient. Pierre se tenait avec eux, et se chauffait.
19 Le souverain sacrificateur interrogea Jésus sur ses disciples et sur sa doctrine.
20 Jésus lui répondit: J'ai parlé ouvertement au monde; j'ai toujours enseigné dans la synagogue et dans le temple, où tous les Juifs s'assemblent, et je n'ai rien dit en secret.
21 Pourquoi m'interroges-tu? Interroge sur ce que je leur ai dit ceux qui m'ont entendu; voici, ceux-là savent ce que j'ai dit.
22 A ces mots, un des huissiers, qui se trouvait là, donna un soufflet à Jésus, en disant: Est-ce ainsi que tu réponds au souverain sacrificateur?
23 Jésus lui dit: Si j'ai mal parlé, fais voir ce que j'ai dit de mal; et si j'ai bien parlé, pourquoi me frappes-tu?
24 Anne l'envoya lié à Caïphe, le souverain sacrificateur.
25 Simon Pierre était là, et se chauffait. On lui dit: Toi aussi, n'es-tu pas de ses disciples? Il le nia, et dit: Je n'en suis point.
26 Un des serviteurs du souverain sacrificateur, parent de celui à qui Pierre avait coupé l'oreille, dit: Ne t'ai-je pas vu avec lui dans le jardin?
27 Pierre le nia de nouveau. Et aussitôt le coq chanta.
28 Ils conduisirent Jésus de chez Caïphe au prétoire: c'était le matin. Ils n'entrèrent point eux-mêmes dans le prétoire, afin de ne pas se souiller, et de pouvoir manger la Pâque.
29 Pilate sortit donc pour aller à eux, et il dit: Quelle accusation portez-vous contre cet homme?
30 Ils lui répondirent: Si ce n'était pas un malfaiteur, nous ne te l'aurions pas livré.
31 Sur quoi Pilate leur dit: Prenez-le vous-mêmes, et jugez-le selon votre loi. Les Juifs lui dirent: Il ne nous est pas permis de mettre personne à mort.
32 C'était afin que s'accomplît la parole que Jésus avait dite, lorsqu'il indiqua de quelle mort il devait mourir.
33 Pilate rentra dans le prétoire, appela Jésus, et lui dit: Es-tu le roi des Juifs?
34 Jésus répondit: Est-ce de toi-même que tu dis cela, ou d'autres te l'ont-ils dit de moi?
35 Pilate répondit: Moi, suis-je Juif? Ta nation et les principaux sacrificateurs t'ont livré à moi: qu'as-tu fait?
36 Mon royaume n'est pas de ce monde, répondit Jésus. Si mon royaume était de ce monde, mes serviteurs auraient combattu pour moi afin que je ne fusse pas livré aux Juifs; mais maintenant mon royaume n'est point d'ici-bas.
37 Pilate lui dit: Tu es donc roi? Jésus répondit: Tu le dis, je suis roi. Je suis né et je suis venu dans le monde pour rendre témoignage à la vérité. Quiconque est de la vérité écoute ma voix.
38 Pilate lui dit: Qu'est-ce que la vérité? Après avoir dit cela, il sortit de nouveau pour aller vers les Juifs, et il leur dit: Je ne trouve aucun crime en lui.
39 Mais, comme c'est parmi vous une coutume que je vous relâche quelqu'un à la fête de Pâque, voulez-vous que je vous relâche le roi des Juifs?
40 Alors de nouveau tous s'écrièrent: Non pas lui, mais Barabbas. Or, Barabbas était un brigand.

Jesus Arrested(A)
18 When he had finished praying, Jesus left with his disciples and crossed the Kidron Valley.(B) On the other side there was a garden,(C) and he and his disciples went into it.(D)
2 Now Judas, who betrayed him, knew the place, because Jesus had often met there with his disciples.(E) 3 So Judas came to the garden, guiding(F) a detachment of soldiers and some officials from the chief priests and the Pharisees.(G) They were carrying torches, lanterns and weapons.
4 Jesus, knowing all that was going to happen to him,(H) went out and asked them, “Who is it you want?”(I)
5 “Jesus of Nazareth,”(J) they replied.
“I am he,” Jesus said. (And Judas the traitor was standing there with them.) 6 When Jesus said, “I am he,” they drew back and fell to the ground.
7 Again he asked them, “Who is it you want?”(K)
“Jesus of Nazareth,” they said.
8 Jesus answered, “I told you that I am he. If you are looking for me, then let these men go.” 9 This happened so that the words he had spoken would be fulfilled: “I have not lost one of those you gave me.”[a](L)
10 Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s servant, cutting off his right ear. (The servant’s name was Malchus.)
11 Jesus commanded Peter, “Put your sword away! Shall I not drink the cup(M) the Father has given me?”
12 Then the detachment of soldiers with its commander and the Jewish officials(N) arrested Jesus. They bound him 13 and brought him first to Annas, who was the father-in-law of Caiaphas,(O) the high priest that year. 14 Caiaphas was the one who had advised the Jewish leaders that it would be good if one man died for the people.(P)
Peter’s First Denial(Q)
15 Simon Peter and another disciple were following Jesus. Because this disciple was known to the high priest,(R) he went with Jesus into the high priest’s courtyard,(S) 16 but Peter had to wait outside at the door. The other disciple, who was known to the high priest, came back, spoke to the servant girl on duty there and brought Peter in.
17 “You aren’t one of this man’s disciples too, are you?” she asked Peter.
He replied, “I am not.”(T)
18 It was cold, and the servants and officials stood around a fire(U) they had made to keep warm. Peter also was standing with them, warming himself.(V)
The High Priest Questions Jesus(W)
19 Meanwhile, the high priest questioned Jesus about his disciples and his teaching.
20 “I have spoken openly to the world,” Jesus replied. “I always taught in synagogues(X) or at the temple,(Y) where all the Jews come together. I said nothing in secret.(Z) 21 Why question me? Ask those who heard me. Surely they know what I said.”
22 When Jesus said this, one of the officials(AA) nearby slapped him in the face.(AB) “Is this the way you answer the high priest?” he demanded.
23 “If I said something wrong,” Jesus replied, “testify as to what is wrong. But if I spoke the truth, why did you strike me?”(AC) 24 Then Annas sent him bound to Caiaphas(AD) the high priest.
Peter’s Second and Third Denials(AE)
25 Meanwhile, Simon Peter was still standing there warming himself.(AF) So they asked him, “You aren’t one of his disciples too, are you?”
He denied it, saying, “I am not.”(AG)
26 One of the high priest’s servants, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off,(AH) challenged him, “Didn’t I see you with him in the garden?”(AI) 27 Again Peter denied it, and at that moment a rooster began to crow.(AJ)
Jesus Before Pilate(AK)
28 Then the Jewish leaders took Jesus from Caiaphas to the palace of the Roman governor.(AL) By now it was early morning, and to avoid ceremonial uncleanness they did not enter the palace,(AM) because they wanted to be able to eat the Passover.(AN) 29 So Pilate came out to them and asked, “What charges are you bringing against this man?”
30 “If he were not a criminal,” they replied, “we would not have handed him over to you.”
31 Pilate said, “Take him yourselves and judge him by your own law.”
“But we have no right to execute anyone,” they objected. 32 This took place to fulfill what Jesus had said about the kind of death he was going to die.(AO)
33 Pilate then went back inside the palace,(AP) summoned Jesus and asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?”(AQ)
34 “Is that your own idea,” Jesus asked, “or did others talk to you about me?”
35 “Am I a Jew?” Pilate replied. “Your own people and chief priests handed you over to me. What is it you have done?”
36 Jesus said, “My kingdom(AR) is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders.(AS) But now my kingdom is from another place.”(AT)
37 “You are a king, then!” said Pilate.
Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth.(AU) Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.”(AV)
38 “What is truth?” retorted Pilate. With this he went out again to the Jews gathered there and said, “I find no basis for a charge against him.(AW) 39 But it is your custom for me to release to you one prisoner at the time of the Passover. Do you want me to release ‘the king of the Jews’?”
40 They shouted back, “No, not him! Give us Barabbas!” Now Barabbas had taken part in an uprising.(AX)
