30 Hoy (woe, doom) to the banim sorerim (obstinately rebellious children), saith Hashem, that take etzah, but not from Me; and in their plans weave a web, but not of My Ruach, that they may heap up chattat upon chattat;
2 That walk to go down into Mitzrayim, and have not inquired at My mouth; to strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh, and to take refuge in the tzel (shadow) of Mitzrayim!
3 Therefore shall the strength of Pharaoh be your shame, and the refuge in the tzel of Mitzrayim your humiliation.
4 For his sarim were at Tzoan, and his malachim (envoys) came to Chanes.
5 They were all ashamed of a people that could not profit them, nor be an ezer (help) nor profit, but a shame, and also a cherpah.
6 The massa (burden) of the beasts of the Negev; into the eretz tzarah and anguish, from which come the lion and lioness, the viper and fiery flying serpent, they will carry their riches upon the shoulders of young donkeys, and their otzarot (treasures) upon the humps of gemalim (camels), to a people that shall not profit them.
7 For the Mitzrayim shall be hevel (vain) in help, and to no purpose; therefore have I called her concerning this, Rahab Sits Idle.
8 Now go, write it before them on a luach (tablet), and inscribe it on a sefer, that it may be for a yom acharon l’ad ad olam;
9 That this is a rebellious people, deceitful banim, banim that will not hear the torah of Hashem;
10 Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us nekhochot (right things), speak unto us chalakot (smooth things), prophesy machatallot (deceits, illusions);
11 Get you off the derech, turn aside out of the orach (path), cause Kadosh Yisroel to cease from before us.
12 Therefore thus saith Kadosh Yisroel, Because ye despise this davar, and trust in oshek (oppression) and waywardness, and rely thereon;
13 Therefore this avon shall be to you as a cracking breach ready to fall, a bulge in a high chomah (wall), whose breaking cometh suddenly in an instant.
14 And whose collapse is as the breaking of the clay jar of yotzerim (pottery makers) that is broken in pieces; it shall not be spared; so that there shall not be found among its fragments a shard to take eish from the fire, or to take mayim therewith out of the cistern.
15 For thus saith Adonoi Hashem Kadosh Yisroel; In shuvah (returning) and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your gevurah (strength); but ye would not.
16 But ye said, No; for we will flee upon sus; therefore shall ye flee; and, We will ride off upon the swift; therefore shall they that pursue you be swift.
17 Elef echad shall flee at the threat of one; at the threat of five shall ye flee; until ye be left as a pole upon the top of the har, and as a nes (banner, flag) on a hill.
18 And therefore will Hashem wait, that He may be gracious unto you, and therefore will He be exalted, that He may have rachamim upon you; for Hashem is Elohei Mishpat; Ashrei are all they that wait for Him.
19 For a people shall dwell in Tziyon at Yerushalayim; thou shalt weep no more; He will be very gracious unto thee at the sound of thy cry; when He shall hear it, He will answer thee.
20 And though Adonoi give you the lechem tzar (bread of trouble), and the mayim lachatz (waters of affliction), yet shall not thy morim (teachers) hide themselves any more, but thine eynayim shall see thy morim;
21 And thine oznayim shall hear a davar behind thee, saying, This is the derech (road), walk ye on it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.
22 Ye shall defile also the covering of thy peselim of kesef, and the clothing of thy massekhot (cast idols) of zahav; thou shalt throw them away like a menstruous cloth; thou shalt say unto it, Get thee from here.
23 Then shall He send the matar of thy zera (seed), that thou shalt sow the adamah therewith; and lechem of the increase of the adamah, and it shall be rich and plenteous; in that day shall thy mikneh feed in broad pastures.
24 The oxen likewise and the young donkeys that work the adamah shall eat mash fodder, which hath been spread with the winnowing fork and with the winnowing fan.
25 And there shall be upon every high har, and upon every soaring hill, springs and streams of mayim in the day of the great slaughter, when the migdalim (towers) fall.
26 Moreover the ohr of the levanah (moon) shall be as the ohr of the chamah (sun), and the ohr of the chamah shall be sevenfold, as the ohr of shivat hayamim (seven days), in the day that Hashem bindeth up the hurt of His people, and healeth the stroke of His wound.
27 Hinei, the Shem of Hashem cometh from afar, burning is His anger, and heavy is His cloud; His safatayim (lips) are full of indignation, and His lashon is like a devouring eish;
28 And His Ruach, like an overflowing stream, shall reach half-way to the tzavar (neck), to sift the Goyim with the sieve of shav (vanity, futility); and there shall be a misleading bridle bit in the jaws of the people.
29 Ye shall have the shir (song), as in the night when the chag is set apart as kodesh; and simchat levav, as when one goeth with a chalil (flute) to come to the Har Hashem, to the Tzur Yisroel.
30 And Hashem shall cause His glorious voice to be heard, and shall cause the lowering of His zero’a to be seen, with the indignation of His anger, and with the flame of a devouring eish, with smashing, and tempest, and even barad (stones of hail, hailstones).
31 For through the voice of Hashem shall the Assyrian be crushed, which struck with a shevet (rod).
32 And in every place where the matteh (rod) of punishment shall pass, which Hashem shall lay upon him [Ashur], it shall be with tambourines and kinnorot; and in milchamot (battles) of brandishing will He fight against them.
33 For Tophet [i.e., the place where humans are sacrificed to Molech in Gey Hinnom] is ordained of old; indeed, for Melech [Molech] it is prepared. He hath made it deep and wide; the fire pit thereof is eish and much wood; the nishmat Hashem (breath of Hashem), like a stream of gofrit (brimstone, burning sulfur), doth kindle it [see Isa 66:24].

Juda uppmanas lita på Herren, inte på Egypten
30 Ve de upproriska barnen, säger Herren,
som rådslår utan mig,
som sluter förbund utan att min Ande är med,
så att de därigenom hopar synd på synd,
2 de som drar ner till Egypten,
utan att ha rådfrågat min mun,
för att söka skydd hos farao
och en tillflykt under Egyptens skugga.
3 Faraos beskydd kommer att bli er till skam,
tillflykten under Egyptens skugga en förödmjukelse.
4 Ty hans furstar var i Soan
och hans sändebud kom ända till Hanes,
5 men var och en skall skämmas över ett folk
som inte kan vara dem till nytta,
inte till bistånd eller hjälp,
utan endast till skam och hån.
6 Profetia om djuren i Negev.
Genom farornas och ångestens land,
där lejoninnor och lejon har sitt tillhåll,
där huggormar och giftiga seraf-ormar bor,
för de sina rikedomar på åsnors ryggar
och sina skatter på kamelers pucklar
till ett folk som inte kan hjälpa dem.
7 Ty Egyptens hjälp är förgäves och till ingen nytta.
Därför kallar jag Egypten
"Rahab,[a] som ingenting uträttar".
Förakt för Guds ord leder till undergång
8 Gå nu och skriv detta på en tavla inför dem
och teckna upp det i en bok,
så att det bevaras för kommande dagar,
alltid och för evigt.
9 Ty det är ett upproriskt folk,
barn som ljuger,
barn som inte vill höra Herrens undervisning
10 och som säger till siarna: "Skåda inte!"
och till profeterna: "Profetera inte för oss det som är sant.
Tala smickrande ord till oss,
profetera bedrägliga ting.
11 Vik av ifrån vägen, gå bort från stigen,
låt oss slippa se Israels Helige."
12 Därför säger Israels Helige:
"Eftersom ni förkastar detta ord
och förtröstar på våld och vrånghet
och förlitar er på sådant,
13 skall denna missgärning bli för er
som ett fallfärdigt stycke på en hög mur,
som buktar ut mer och mer,
till dess muren plötsligt rämnar på ett ögonblick.
14 Den krossas som en lerkruka, så skoningslöst att man inte kan
finna en skärva stor nog
att med den hämta eld från eldstaden
eller ösa upp vatten ur dammen."
15 Ty så säger Herren Herren, Israels Helige:
"Om ni vänder om och är stilla skall ni bli frälsta.
Genom stillhet och förtröstan blir ni starka."
Men ni vill inte.
16 Ni säger: "Nej, på hästar tänker vi fly."
Därför skall ni också fly.
"På snabba hästar tänker vi ge oss av."
Därför skall också era förföljare vara snabba.
17 Tusen skall fly för en enda mans hot,
och för fem mäns hot skall ni alla fly,
till dess det som är kvar av er
är som en ensam stång på toppen av ett berg,
som ett baner på en kulle.
18 Därför väntar Herren på att få visa er nåd,
därför är han upphöjd för att visa er barmhärtighet.
Ty Herren är en domens Gud.
Saliga är alla som väntar på honom.
Herren skall välsigna sitt folk
19 O, du Sions folk, som bor i Jerusalem, gråt inte mer. Han skall förvisso vara nådig mot dig när du ropar. Så snart han hör din röst, skall han svara dig. 20 Visserligen skall Herren ge dig nödens bröd och lidandets dryck, men sedan skall dina lärare inte längre gömmas undan, utan dina ögon skall se dina lärare. 21 Och vare sig du viker av åt höger eller vänster, så skall dina öron höra detta ord ljuda bakom dig: "Här är vägen, gå på den." 22 Silvret, som dina snidade avgudabilder är överdragna med och guldet som dina gjutna avgudabilder är belagda med, skall du då anse vara orent. Du skall kasta bort det som ett orent plagg och säga till det: "Bort härifrån!"
23 Och han skall ge regn åt den säd du har sått i jorden, och markens gröda skall ge dig bröd som är rikligt och närande. Den dagen skall din boskap gå i bet på stora betesmarker. 24 Oxarna och åsnorna, dragdjuren när jorden brukas, skall äta saltad blandsäd som man kastat med sädesvanna och kastskovel.
25 På den stora slaktens dag, när tornen faller, skall bäckar med strömmande vatten flöda fram på alla höga berg och alla stora höjder. 26 Månens ljus skall vara som solens och solens ljus skall vara sju gånger klarare, som ett sjufaldigt dagsljus, när den dag kommer då Herren förbinder sitt folks skador och helar såren efter slagen som det fått.
Dom över Assyrien
27 Se, Herrens namn kommer fjärran ifrån
med brinnande vrede och med tunga rökmoln.
Hans läppar är fulla av förbittring,
hans tunga är som förtärande eld.
28 Hans andedräkt är lik en ström som svämmar över,
så att den når ända upp till halsen.
Ty han vill sålla hednafolken i förintelsens såll
och lägga i folkens mun ett betsel som leder dem vilse.
29 Då skall ni sjunga som under en natt
då man firar helig högtid,
och era hjärtan skall glädja sig
som när man under flöjtspel tågar upp på Herrens berg,
upp till Israels klippa.
30 Och Herren skall låta sin majestätiska röst höras
och visa hur hans arm drabbar
i vrede och förbittring,
med förtärande eldslåga,
med storm och störtskurar och hagelstenar.
31 Ty för Herrens röst
skall Assur gripas av skräck,
när han slår honom med sin stav.
32 Och så ofta staven far fram
och Herren efter sitt rådslut
låter den falla på honom,
skall pukor och harpor ljuda.
Gång på gång skall han lyfta sin arm
för att strida mot honom.
33 Ty en eldsgrop[b] är sedan länge tillredd,
även för kungen har den gjorts redo,
den är djup och bred.
Dess bål är fylld av eld och ved i överflöd,
lik en svavelström skall Herrens
Ande sätta den i brand.

Woe to the Obstinate Nation
30 “Woe(A) to the obstinate children,”(B)
declares the Lord,
“to those who carry out plans that are not mine,
forming an alliance,(C) but not by my Spirit,
heaping sin upon sin;
2 who go down to Egypt(D)
without consulting(E) me;
who look for help to Pharaoh’s protection,(F)
to Egypt’s shade for refuge.(G)
3 But Pharaoh’s protection will be to your shame,
Egypt’s shade(H) will bring you disgrace.(I)
4 Though they have officials in Zoan(J)
and their envoys have arrived in Hanes,
5 everyone will be put to shame
because of a people(K) useless(L) to them,
who bring neither help(M) nor advantage,
but only shame and disgrace.(N)”
6 A prophecy(O) concerning the animals of the Negev:(P)
Through a land of hardship and distress,(Q)
of lions(R) and lionesses,
of adders and darting snakes,(S)
the envoys carry their riches on donkeys’(T) backs,
their treasures(U) on the humps of camels,
to that unprofitable nation,
7 to Egypt, whose help is utterly useless.(V)
Therefore I call her
Rahab(W) the Do-Nothing.
8 Go now, write it on a tablet(X) for them,
inscribe it on a scroll,(Y)
that for the days to come
it may be an everlasting witness.(Z)
9 For these are rebellious(AA) people, deceitful(AB) children,
children unwilling to listen to the Lord’s instruction.(AC)
10 They say to the seers,(AD)
“See no more visions(AE)!”
and to the prophets,
“Give us no more visions of what is right!
Tell us pleasant things,(AF)
prophesy illusions.(AG)
11 Leave this way,(AH)
get off this path,
and stop confronting(AI) us
with the Holy One(AJ) of Israel!”
12 Therefore this is what the Holy One(AK) of Israel says:
“Because you have rejected this message,(AL)
relied on oppression(AM)
and depended on deceit,
13 this sin will become for you
like a high wall,(AN) cracked and bulging,
that collapses(AO) suddenly,(AP) in an instant.
14 It will break in pieces like pottery,(AQ)
shattered so mercilessly
that among its pieces not a fragment will be found
for taking coals from a hearth
or scooping water out of a cistern.”
15 This is what the Sovereign(AR) Lord, the Holy One(AS) of Israel, says:
“In repentance and rest(AT) is your salvation,
in quietness and trust(AU) is your strength,
but you would have none of it.(AV)
16 You said, ‘No, we will flee(AW) on horses.’(AX)
Therefore you will flee!
You said, ‘We will ride off on swift horses.’
Therefore your pursuers will be swift!
17 A thousand will flee
at the threat of one;
at the threat of five(AY)
you will all flee(AZ) away,
till you are left(BA)
like a flagstaff on a mountaintop,
like a banner(BB) on a hill.”
18 Yet the Lord longs(BC) to be gracious to you;
therefore he will rise up to show you compassion.(BD)
For the Lord is a God of justice.(BE)
Blessed are all who wait for him!(BF)
19 People of Zion, who live in Jerusalem, you will weep no more.(BG) How gracious he will be when you cry for help!(BH) As soon as he hears, he will answer(BI) you. 20 Although the Lord gives you the bread(BJ) of adversity and the water of affliction, your teachers(BK) will be hidden(BL) no more; with your own eyes you will see them. 21 Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice(BM) behind you, saying, “This is the way;(BN) walk in it.” 22 Then you will desecrate your idols(BO) overlaid with silver and your images covered with gold;(BP) you will throw them away like a menstrual(BQ) cloth and say to them, “Away with you!(BR)”
23 He will also send you rain(BS) for the seed you sow in the ground, and the food that comes from the land will be rich(BT) and plentiful.(BU) In that day(BV) your cattle will graze in broad meadows.(BW) 24 The oxen(BX) and donkeys that work the soil will eat fodder(BY) and mash, spread out with fork(BZ) and shovel. 25 In the day of great slaughter,(CA) when the towers(CB) fall, streams of water will flow(CC) on every high mountain and every lofty hill. 26 The moon will shine like the sun,(CD) and the sunlight will be seven times brighter, like the light of seven full days, when the Lord binds up the bruises of his people and heals(CE) the wounds he inflicted.
27 See, the Name(CF) of the Lord comes from afar,
with burning anger(CG) and dense clouds of smoke;
his lips are full of wrath,(CH)
and his tongue is a consuming fire.(CI)
28 His breath(CJ) is like a rushing torrent,(CK)
rising up to the neck.(CL)
He shakes the nations in the sieve(CM) of destruction;
he places in the jaws of the peoples
a bit(CN) that leads them astray.
29 And you will sing
as on the night you celebrate a holy festival;(CO)
your hearts will rejoice(CP)
as when people playing pipes(CQ) go up
to the mountain(CR) of the Lord,
to the Rock(CS) of Israel.
30 The Lord will cause people to hear his majestic voice(CT)
and will make them see his arm(CU) coming down
with raging anger(CV) and consuming fire,(CW)
with cloudburst, thunderstorm(CX) and hail.(CY)
31 The voice of the Lord will shatter Assyria;(CZ)
with his rod he will strike(DA) them down.
32 Every stroke the Lord lays on them
with his punishing club(DB)
will be to the music of timbrels(DC) and harps,
as he fights them in battle with the blows of his arm.(DD)
33 Topheth(DE) has long been prepared;
it has been made ready for the king.
Its fire pit has been made deep and wide,
with an abundance of fire and wood;
the breath(DF) of the Lord,
like a stream of burning sulfur,(DG)
sets it ablaze.(DH)
