5 And it came to pass, when all the melachim of the HaEmori, which were beyond the Yarden westward, and all the melachim of the Kena’ani, which were by the Yam, heard that Hashem had dried up the waters of the Yarden from before the Bnei Yisroel, until they had passed over, their levav sank, neither was there ruach in them any more, because of the Bnei Yisroel.
2 At that time Hashem said unto Yehoshua, Make thee knives of flint, and do a second time the Bris Milah to the Bnei Yisroel.
3 And Yehoshua made him flint knives, and did Bris Milah to the Bnei Yisroel at Givat HaAralot.
4 And this is the reason why Yehoshua did the Bris Milah: Kol HaAm that came out of Mitzrayim, that were zekharim (males), even Kol Anshei HaMilchamah, died in the midbar baderech, after they came out of Mitzrayim.
5 Now Kol HaAm that came out were Mulim (circumcised); but Kol HaAm that were born in the midbar baderech when they came forth out of Mitzrayim, them they had not given Bris Milah.
6 For the Bnei Yisroel walked arba’im shanah in the midbar, until Kol HaGoy that were Anshei HaMilchamah, which came out of Mitzrayim, were consumed, because they obeyed not the Kol Hashem (voice of Hashem); unto whom Hashem swore that He would not show them HaAretz, which Hashem swore unto their Avot that He would give us, Eretz zavat cholov u’devash.
7 And their banim, whom He raised up in their place, them Yehoshua gave Bris Milah; for they were arelim (uncircumcised), because they had not given them Bris Milah baderech.[See Ep 2:11 OJBC.]
8 And it came to pass, when they had done giving Bris Milah to Kol HaGoy, that they abode in their places in the machaneh, until they were chayyah (healed, whole, restored alive).
9 And Hashem said unto Yehoshua, This day galloti (have I rolled away) the reproach of Mitzrayim from off you. Therefore the shem of the place is called Gilgal unto this day.
10 And the Bnei Yisroel encamped at Gilgal, and observed the Pesach on the fourteenth day of the month at erev in the plains of Yericho.
11 And they did eat of the produce of HaAretz on the day after the Pesach, on that very day, matzot, and roasted grain.
12 And the manna ceased on the following day after they had eaten of the produce of HaAretz; neither had the Bnei Yisroel manna any more; but they did eat of the increase of Eretz Kena’an that year.
13 And it came to pass, when Yehoshua was there by Yericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, hinei, there stood an ish in front of him with his cherev drawn in his yad; and Yehoshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?
14 And he said, Lo (no); but as Sar Tze’va Hashem am I now come. And Yehoshua fell on his face to the ground, and did prostrate himself, and said unto him, What saith Adoni unto his eved?
15 And the Sar Tze’va Hashem said unto Yehoshua, Take off thy sandals from off thy feet; for the makom whereon thou standest is kodesh. And Yehoshua did so.

The Second Generation Circumcised
5 So it was, when all the kings of the Amorites who were on the west side of the Jordan, and all the kings of the Canaanites (A)who were by the sea, (B)heard that the Lord had dried up the waters of the Jordan from before the children of Israel until [a]we had crossed over, that [b]their heart melted; (C)and there was no spirit in them any longer because of the children of Israel.
2 At that time the Lord said to Joshua, “Make (D)flint knives for yourself, and circumcise the sons of Israel again the second time.” 3 So Joshua made flint knives for himself, and circumcised the sons of Israel at [c]the hill of the foreskins. 4 And this is the reason why Joshua circumcised them: (E)All the people who came out of Egypt who were males, all the men of war, had died in the wilderness on the way, after they had come out of Egypt. 5 For all the people who came out had been circumcised, but all the people born in the wilderness, on the way as they came out of Egypt, had not been circumcised. 6 For the children of Israel walked (F)forty years in the wilderness, till all the people who were men of war, who came out of Egypt, were [d]consumed, because they did not obey the voice of the Lord—to whom the Lord swore that (G)He would not show them the land which the Lord had sworn to their fathers that He would give us, (H)“a land flowing with milk and honey.” 7 Then Joshua circumcised (I)their sons whom He raised up in their place; for they were uncircumcised, because they had not been circumcised on the way.
8 So it was, when they had finished circumcising all the people, that they stayed in their places in the camp (J)till they were healed. 9 Then the Lord said to Joshua, “This day I have rolled away (K)the reproach of Egypt from you.” Therefore the name of the place is called (L)Gilgal[e] to this day.
10 Now the children of Israel camped in Gilgal, and kept the Passover (M)on the fourteenth day of the month at twilight on the plains of Jericho. 11 And they ate of the produce of the land on the day after the Passover, unleavened bread and [f]parched grain, on the very same day. 12 Then (N)the manna ceased on the day after they had eaten the produce of the land; and the children of Israel no longer had manna, but they ate the food of the land of Canaan that year.
The Commander of the Army of the Lord
13 And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, (O)a Man stood opposite him (P)with His sword drawn in His hand. And Joshua went to Him and said to Him, “Are You for us or for our adversaries?”
14 So He said, “No, but as Commander of the army of the Lord I have now come.”
And Joshua (Q)fell on his face to the earth and (R)worshiped, and said to Him, “What does my Lord say to His servant?”
15 Then the Commander of the Lord’s army said to Joshua, (S)“Take your sandal off your foot, for the place where you stand is holy.” And Joshua did so.

5 Când au auzit(A) toţi împăraţii amoriţilor de la apusul Iordanului şi toţi împăraţii canaaniţilor de lângă(B) mare că Domnul secase apele Iordanului înaintea copiilor lui Israel până am trecut, li s-a tăiat(C) inima şi au rămas îngroziţi înaintea copiilor lui Israel. 2 În vremea aceea, Domnul a zis lui Iosua: „Fă-ţi nişte cuţite(D) de piatră şi taie împrejur pe copiii lui Israel, a doua oară.” 3 Iosua şi-a făcut nişte cuţite de piatră şi a tăiat împrejur pe copiii lui Israel pe dealul Aralot. 4 Iată pricina pentru care i-a tăiat Iosua împrejur. Tot(E) poporul ieşit din Egipt, bărbaţii, toţi oamenii de luptă muriseră în pustie, pe drum, după ieşirea lor din Egipt. 5 Tot poporul acela ieşit din Egipt era tăiat împrejur, dar tot poporul născut în pustie, pe drum, după ieşirea din Egipt, nu fusese tăiat împrejur. 6 Căci copiii lui Israel umblaseră patruzeci(F) de ani prin pustie până la nimicirea întregului neam de oameni de război care ieşiseră din Egipt şi care nu ascultaseră de glasul Domnului. Domnul le-a jurat că nu-i(G) va lăsa să vadă ţara pe care jurase părinţilor lor că le-o va da, ţară(H) în care curge lapte şi miere. 7 În locul lor a ridicat pe(I) copiii lor, şi Iosua i-a tăiat împrejur, căci erau netăiaţi împrejur, pentru că nu-i tăiaseră împrejur pe drum. 8 După ce a isprăvit de tăiat împrejur pe tot poporul, au rămas pe loc în tabără până la vindecare(J).
Prăznuirea Paştelor. Mana încetează
9 Domnul a zis lui Iosua: „Astăzi, am ridicat ocara(K) Egiptului de deasupra voastră.” Şi locului aceluia i-au pus numele(L) Ghilgal (Prăvălire) până în ziua de azi. 10 Copiii lui Israel au tăbărât la Ghilgal şi au prăznuit Paştele în a paisprezecea(M) zi a lunii, spre seară, în câmpia Ierihonului. 11 A doua zi de Paşte au mâncat din grâul ţării, azimi şi boabe prăjite; chiar în ziua aceea au mâncat. 12 Mana(N) a încetat a doua zi de Paşte, când au mâncat din grâul ţării. Copiii lui Israel n-au mai avut mană, ci au mâncat din roadele ţării Canaanului în anul acela.
Descoperirea dumnezeiască
13 Pe când Iosua era lângă Ierihon, a ridicat ochii şi s-a uitat. Şi iată, un om(O) stătea în picioare înaintea lui, cu sabia scoasă(P) din teacă în mână. Iosua s-a dus spre el şi i-a zis: „Eşti dintre ai noştri sau dintre vrăjmaşii noştri?” 14 El a răspuns: „Nu, ci Eu sunt Căpetenia oştirii Domnului şi acum am venit.” Iosua s-a(Q) aruncat cu faţa la pământ, s-a închinat şi I-a zis: „Ce spune Domnul meu robului Său?” 15 Şi Căpetenia oştirii Domnului a zis lui Iosua: „Scoate-ţi(R) încălţămintele din picioare, căci locul pe care stai este sfânt.” Şi Iosua a făcut aşa.
