3 Not many of you, Achim b’Moshiach, should be Morim for Moshiach, als (since), as far as concerns Mishpat Hashem, you have da’as that we Messianic morim will have the chomer haDin (rigor of the Law) fall on us more severely.
2 For all of us stumble variously. If anyone as far as lashon hora is concerned, does not stumble, this one is an ish tamim able to bridle also the entire guf (body). [1Kgs 8:46; Ps 39:1; Prov 10:19]
3 And if we put bits into the mouths of susim (horses) to bring them into mishma’at (obedience), in just this way we direct their whole gufot (bodies).
4 Hinei, also the oniyot (ships), even though gedolot and driven by gales, are guided by a very small rudder wherever the impulse of the one steering directs.
5 So also the lashon (tongue), an evar katon (small member) speaks of RAVREVAN ("boastful things" DANIEL 7:8,20). Hinei, an eish ketanah (small fire) and yet how great a forest it can set ablaze! [Ps 12:3,4; 73:8,9]
6 And the lashon is an Eish, the lashon is made an Olam HaAvel (World of Iniquity) among our evarim (members), defiling with a stain kol haGuf (whole body), and setting ablaze the course of life, and is itself set by eish in Gehinnom. [MISHLE 16:27]
7 For every species both of wild animals and birds, reptiles and marine creatures is tamed and has been tamed by humankind.
8 But the Lashon no one of Bnei Adam is able to tame, an uncontrollable ra’ah (evil), full of deadly zuhamah (contamination).
9 With this we say a bracha to Hashem, Adoneinu and Avoteynu, and with this we put a kelalah (curse) on Bnei Adam, who have been created according to the demut Elohim [Gn 1:26,27).
10 Out of the same PEH comes forth bracha and also kelalah. My Achim b’Moshiach, these things ought not to be.
11 Surely not out of the same makor (fountain) pours forth mayim both sweet and bitter?
12 Surely an etz te’enah (fig tree) cannot yield olives, my Achim b’Moshiach, or a grape vine figs? Neither can salt water yield sweet water.
13 Who has chochmah and binah among you? Let him show by his hitnahagut hatovah (good conduct) that the ma’asim of him are of the shiflut (lowliness) of chochmah.
14 But if bitter kina (jealousy) you have and anochiyut (selfishness) in your levavot, do not boast and speak sheker against HaEmes.
15 This is not the Chochmah coming down and descending from above, but is of the Olam Hazeh, of this world and of shedim.
16 For where kina and anochiyut are, there is tohu vavohu (disorder, chaos) and every ra’ah.
17 But the chochmah from above is berishonah (in the first place) tehorah (pure), then ohevet shalom (peaceloving), then eidel (gentle) and considerate, then full of rachamim and p’ri tov, and without maso panim and tzevi’ut.
18 And the p’ri haTzedek is shalom sown by the ones making shalom. (Prov 11:18; Isa 32:17; Hos 10:12]

El poder de la lengua
3 Hermanos míos(A), que no se hagan maestros muchos de ustedes(B), sabiendo que recibiremos un juicio más severo. 2 Porque todos fallamos[a] de muchas maneras(C). Si alguien no falla en lo que dice[b](D), es un hombre perfecto(E), capaz también de refrenar todo el cuerpo(F). 3 Ahora bien, si ponemos el freno en la boca de los caballos(G) para que nos obedezcan, dirigimos también todo su cuerpo. 4 Miren también las naves; aunque son tan grandes e impulsadas por fuertes vientos, son, sin embargo, dirigidas mediante un timón muy pequeño por donde la voluntad[c] del piloto quiere.
5 Así también la lengua es un miembro pequeño, y sin embargo, se jacta de grandes cosas(H). ¡Pues qué gran bosque se incendia con tan pequeño fuego(I)! 6 También la lengua es un fuego(J), un mundo de iniquidad. La lengua está puesta entre nuestros miembros, la cual contamina todo el cuerpo(K), es encendida por el infierno[d](L) e inflama el curso[e] de nuestra vida[f]. 7 Porque toda clase[g] de fieras y de aves, de reptiles y de animales marinos, se puede domar y ha sido domado por el ser[h] humano, 8 pero ningún hombre puede domar la lengua. Es un mal turbulento y lleno de veneno mortal(M).
9 Con ella bendecimos a nuestro Señor y Padre(N), y con ella maldecimos a los hombres, que han sido hechos a la imagen de Dios(O). 10 De la misma boca proceden bendición y maldición. Hermanos míos, esto no debe ser así. 11 ¿Acaso una fuente echa agua dulce y amarga por la misma abertura? 12 ¿Acaso, hermanos míos, puede una higuera producir aceitunas(P), o una vid higos? Tampoco la fuente de agua salada puede producir agua dulce.
Sabiduría de lo alto
13 ¿Quién es sabio y entendido entre ustedes? Que muestre(Q) por su buena conducta(R) sus obras en sabia mansedumbre. 14 Pero si tienen celos amargos y ambición personal[i](S) en su corazón, no sean arrogantes y mientan así contra la verdad(T). 15 Esta sabiduría no es la que viene de lo alto(U), sino que es terrenal(V), natural[j](W), diabólica[k](X). 16 Porque donde hay celos(Y) y ambición personal[l], allí hay confusión y toda cosa mala.
17 Pero la sabiduría de lo alto(Z) es primeramente pura(AA), después pacífica(AB), amable(AC), condescendiente[m], llena de misericordia(AD) y de buenos frutos, sin vacilación(AE), sin hipocresía(AF). 18 Y la semilla cuyo fruto es la justicia(AG) se siembra en paz por[n] aquellos que hacen la paz.

The Untamable Tongue
3 My brethren, (A)let not many of you become teachers, (B)knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment. 2 For (C)we all stumble in many things. (D)If anyone does not stumble in word, (E)he is a [a]perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body. 3 [b]Indeed, (F)we put bits in horses’ mouths that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body. 4 Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires. 5 Even so (G)the tongue is a little member and (H)boasts great things.
See how great a forest a little fire kindles! 6 And (I)the tongue is a fire, a world of [c]iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it (J)defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of [d]nature; and it is set on fire by [e]hell. 7 For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. 8 But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, (K)full of deadly poison. 9 With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made (L)in the [f]similitude of God. 10 Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so. 11 Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening? 12 Can a (M)fig tree, my brethren, bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? [g]Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh.
Heavenly Versus Demonic Wisdom
13 (N)Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom. 14 But if you have (O)bitter envy and [h]self-seeking in your hearts, (P)do not boast and lie against the truth. 15 (Q)This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic. 16 For (R)where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there. 17 But (S)the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, (T)without partiality (U)and without hypocrisy. 18 (V)Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

Taming the Tongue
3 Not many of you should become teachers,(A) my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged(B) more strictly.(C) 2 We all stumble(D) in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say(E) is perfect,(F) able to keep their whole body in check.(G)
3 When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal.(H) 4 Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. 5 Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts.(I) Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. 6 The tongue also is a fire,(J) a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body,(K) sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.(L)
7 All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and sea creatures are being tamed and have been tamed by mankind, 8 but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.(M)
9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness.(N) 10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be. 11 Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? 12 My brothers and sisters, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs?(O) Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.
Two Kinds of Wisdom
13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it(P) by their good life, by deeds(Q) done in the humility that comes from wisdom. 14 But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition(R) in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth.(S) 15 Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven(T) but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic.(U) 16 For where you have envy and selfish ambition,(V) there you find disorder and every evil practice.
17 But the wisdom that comes from heaven(W) is first of all pure; then peace-loving,(X) considerate, submissive, full of mercy(Y) and good fruit, impartial and sincere.(Z) 18 Peacemakers(AA) who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.(AB)
